Thanks Mr Ed for a wonderful video! A quick note, the number on our controller screen is actually electrical hertz. It's a 60 hertz motor, but we govern it back to 50 hertz, which puts the top speed at about 280 RPM. We feel that this speed provides good efficiency, helps ensure that combs don't blow out during extracting, and just keeps the process more "calm". As the video shows, it performs very nicely at that speed. And yes, the legs ARE included in the price!
I love my 9 frame HillCo extractor. It’s very quiet and is very stable. I also have their 27 frame uncapping tank and it pairs very well with the extractor.

Since I want to be a full time beekeeper, I went for the biggest motorized radial extractor I could fit through my apartment door (Buy once, cry once) especially after using a tiny tangential 2 framer. Best purchase I made in a long time!
My personal recommendation: No matter what size you want or need, get a radial extractor, no frame flipping that doubles extraction time.

Grandmas honey spinner was small and made of oak with banding lime a barrel and enamal on the inside with the handle on the outside, she always sang hymms when spinning the honey, her favourite one was How Great Thy Art.

Since receiving my HillCo extractor and running about a dozen supers (some deep, but most medium frames) I feel experienced enough to share some comments. Overall, a well made extractor and fairly priced for a Made In USA product. I like some of the improvements on the original design like the extra large hinges to the front plastic cover and the very quite operating when balanced. Another huge pro that I need to point out is HillCo's fantastic customer service, informative UA-cam videos, and free shipping!!!
Some drawbacks that I have identified.
* rather sharp edges to the legs, in fact I cut the top of my barefooted toe when I scraped across it. shoes are recommended.
* lack of handles for totting the unit (without motor assembly) out for cleanup or general relocation
*uncertainty in toggling between clockwise and counter clockwise spin. For the likes of me I still haven't figured out the right combination or sequence of mashing the no/off switch, shift button, fwd/reverse, button. I sometimes make it happen, but mostly just spin one directional.
* the absence of a tube of food grade grease. I notice this add on was provided with larger more expensive models. I used Crisco shortening and it works. But without some sort of lube the unit will make a squeaking noise, as expected.
* the thickness of the two plastic see through covers for the top. Although these are completely sufficient and preform the necessary function, I was a little disappointed at the covers degree of flex in comparison to my first (lesser quality) extractor.
* in all fairness the sloping interior bottom of the larger and more expensive models is a very nice feature. My model does not have one and this I knew making my purchase. However, I lean my unit forward and rest it in this position to allow the honey to drain out into my bucket for more complete emptying.
* I do notice that tangentially extracted frames end cleaner than radially extracted frames. This makes me think that the motor RPM's might be a tiny bit slow. I do realize that the orientation of the two methods favors tangentially for cleaner frames, however on some larger models there is supposedly a "hack" that can lead to faster spin RPM's on those models. This hack is not a possibility on my 6x3 unit.
Would i purchase again from HillCo? A resounding YES. I think for my operation I should have spent the extra money an went with the unit that can do 9 deeps or medium frames radially. This would allow for a complete super of 9-frames to be processed at a time. Price point and storage considerations were large factors in my decision process and upgrading from a 2-frame tangential was a necessity.
I hope this helps the reader. Keep up the great job HillCo and look for some amazing products from them in the future.
Bottom line, you can't go wrong owning a HillCo product. Not only a product that gets the job done, but with the best support and warranty out there. I have a vevor that I’m using now, it’s lasted me 4 season so for with no issues, but it is cheaply made and does hold honey at the bottom, but if your just starting out buying a lot of equipment you can’t beat the price, I’m fixing to get a bigger machine since my bee yard has grown and I really like the hillco units. Thanks for sharing Mr. Ed.
Jeff I think you may have the covers reversed on the Vivor extractor... mine has a magnetic screw that hold the cover up which lines up with the screw on the motor. Once you switch the lids around the lid should stay up to load frames... I know this because I installed mine incorrectly and had to do the switch and then it worked fine. Really it took two of you fellas to put the motor back on!? Guess I'll have to come down and show you how a little old lady does it! Actually the two parts that fit back together have different sized wedges so you need to make sure you have the correct two together for it to slip back in place. I spin 8 frames at a time, multiple times a season and have had this extractor for nine years and it still works great no problems. Keep it clean, keep it greased, replace the ball barring and it spins like a charm every time. As with any extractor of a smaller size making sure it is loaded evenly will take care of the wobbles and walking. So don't be putting two really fat frames across from two that have thinner filled comb or it will walk across the floor and that goes for any extractor regardless of how strongly it is build. If you do have uneven weighted frames try and match them up cat-i-corner to each other. If your extractor gets the wobbles then stop the machine and check the frame weights and shift frames to get the right balance. Frames that might contain some pollen will always weigh more as the pollen is never spun out.

Thanks for the comparison video. I inherited a two frame, manual, tangential extractor from my Dad. It will extract but was wearing me out. I bought a 18 frame UltraMax from Hillco last year. It changed my life. I now look forward to extraction even more than usual. John has great customer service and a fine product at a fair price!

Great video guys,, thanks for the comparisons. I started out with a 2 frame Vevor. One day as I was staring at those lids on mine, I realized they put the little metal button and handle on the lid, reversed and in the wrong holes. After switching them, the little screw button is actually a magnet and it contacts the screw on the side of the motor, which now it holds the lid up. Someday I hope to afford a Hillco radial frame extractor, but at this time I'll have to stick with the Vevor. This is only my 3rd year beekeeping. Have a blessed day.....

Not too sure about the Maxant and the Vevor extractors.
The Hilco seems like the way to go as far as stability, features and build. Yeah, the Vevor is probably good for the hobbyist that doesn't have more than two or three bee boxes, however, the Hilco just exudes durability for the long term.

In Australia it's illegal to leave sticky frames, scrap, or tools outside to be robbed, because of the risk of spreading disease. So to give the honey back to the bees, you either put these things inside the hive box for the bees to clean up, or you build a bigger box to temporarily expand their hive so they can clean your tools in the privacy of their own home.
Centrifuges that fit inside a reasonably portable wooden box are a priority. Otherwise you're washing all that honey out with water.
What a shame the restrictions the Australian government has placed on beekeepers there. I know the reasons are legitimate due to the invasion of the mites, but personally, I don't agree with the regulations. God's peace brother.

You are right Jeff. The welds on the legs of the Vevor will break. I bought one about 4 years ago to supplement a 1970's model Kelley extractor, and one of the legs broke off at the tank on the second load. They did honor the warranty and sent me another tank, but I didn't trust it either so I sold it. Enjoyed the video, and God bless.

I’ve been manually slinging out my honey for the last 9 years on an SAF Natura 4/2 (Italy) extractor. It is a good quality product for my 14+ hives but my wife and I are whipped after slinging honey with the hand crank. It also wobbles/walks/tilts no matter how you try to secure it until it gets some “honey weight” into the attached bottling tank. Your unboxing/demo sold me straightaway on the HillCo Enduro. I watched yours and Charlie’s video 3 times just to be sure I didn’t miss something before making my decision. Also, HillCo’s (John’s) sales video on the Enduro does an excellent job on promoting the confidence they have in their product. Also HillCo’s responses in the comments on your video also sold me. I ordered my HillCo Enduro shortly after watching yours and Charlie’s excellent expose of the 3 extractors. You know, I truly believe you are as happy a guy all day long as you are on your videos.

I got so excited about extracting, that I went ahead and updated my cracked/chipped/partialy broken uncapping tub to a HillCo 30” stainless steel uncapping tank. It is on wheels and has a lid/cover that also it a big plus and holds alot more cappings

Hi Jeff, being a backyard beekeeper I went from a manual 2 frame extractor to the Vevor Extractor. It does save time but the honey does sit in the bottom because like you said as the gate is higher than the honey level. I have to tilt it to get all the honey out. Fortunately I have it mounted on a wheeled base and I incorporated 2 hinges in the front and a quick release on the back to allow it to easily tilt when draining honey or cleaning it out. I use the base to help with out of balance frames. That hole placement is very odd, if I were to have designed a similar product I would probably wouldn't have thought of it either. It just makes perfect sense to place the hole lower like in the other two models.
Problem is engineers who don't actually use the final product are the ones who draw it up.
I'm soon to be retired, 40+ years as an aircraft maintainer dealing with the mistakes of engineers the entire time.
I know all of y'all's pain, I really do. So with a bit of backyard engineering, you can get a new hole drilled in the bottom, and get a drain installed. Then you should be good to go. Call around to local welder shops, they repair engineers mistakes too.

On the other hand, beekeeping in China is a different sport, they harvest uncapped nectar then dehydrate it with resin technology, the uncapped nectar runs out of the extractor easier than mature honey.

Mr. Ed, I bought a Vevor 4/8 frame extractor priced around 269 by registering an account, this is to replace the basic 2-frame unit I had (it works) as entry level beekeeping. I could not justify the cost of a more deluxe extractor having up to a dozen honey supers.. TIPS: run the speed very slow until the weight is removed, rotate frames and repeat before increasing speed, rotate one more time. This will reduce shaking and blow outs... When I was a young man, I was extracting honey hundreds of natural wax/wire frames and learned this process... Great demo of the other machines available to backyard beekeepers
Exactly what JP the Delaware BeeMan and other people have said who have Tangential based extractors to start very slow and flip before fully extracted, doesn't matter who the vendor is.
I would be worried about a the durability of a plastic frame holder.
I know a few people who did like JP described below - removed the factory legs and mounted it on a wood framed box ( adding rubber vibration dampeners - food grade rubber mats/pads) and that really eliminated the vibration (caused by the simple fact that the frames never contain the same amount of honey). The wood box has a base wide enough that the Honey Drain Pails fit under neath it making for convenient off season storage. Easy to tilt to drain the bottom of the tank.

I am a math person. My math says it will take 3 minutes to extract each large frame. If you have 50 frames a year to extract Vevor's junk is probably ok. I expect at 100 frames a year the shear NOT user friendly part of it would make it "not worth the saving'
At $700 the American made three year warranty and is easy to use would come into its own. fighting your equipment push people to avoid doing their jobs in a timely manner which leads to all kinds of other issues.
Hell if you have the 1000 what a bit more... LOL.
$700 100 frames a year. 7 years.... $1 a frame. Three minutes a frame totals 35 hours of use in 7 years... you can show this and thus sell it for 1/2 price.... now it is 50 cents per frame.

The Vivor looks like my Vivo. Only difference is a magnet that holds the lid open. You are right about the legs. I had one weld pop near the bottom. I plan on bolting but for now I just ratchet strapped it tight.😁I too have to tilt which I prop with an angled 4" piece baseboard to get most of the honey. Works for me. I do like it,esp the price. You do have to make sure things are balanced as good as possible. I also mounted it on a piece of plywood with wheels to help with leg stress/shaking. Have had 4-5 years.

Thanks for the video, Mr Ed. I own the VEVOR one and borrow a MAXANT sometimes. There is a difference, but the VEVOR was a lot cheaper. MAXANT is a perfect machine with performance, finished edges, and substantial. VEVOR gets the job done and bolts to a frame; it's okay. If I had my druthers tho, I'd own the MAXANT. Never used the Eundoro.

Great video don't know why I put off watching it for several hours. I think I liked the Hill Co the most. The company I worked for 31 years before I retired last summer would have written you up for putting your hand inside those without removing the power source, glad I don't work there anymore but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't worried when you did that with the Chinese model, even though I likely would have done the same on the other two extractors, even though it's not really safe. An issue with the rheostat that controls the speed from zero to full on could have broken bones and I was flinching watching. I guess having safety drilled into you for that many years is something that's hard to forget. After so many years and the amount of product we put out I did see several accidents from unexpected energy releases casing broken bones, amputations and one loss of life. Watch yourself Sir, I want to keep on enjoying your videos, and don't want to see anyone getting hurt like that again. Thanks for the video.
The one part of this video I wish you had included what was your preference to the manufacture and design a more in depth. You remained unbiased; however people value experience and knowledge. Your impressions and insights are valuable. From my analysis, the Hilco machine build quality and design quality as the Maxiant were similar. With the Vevore being the least in quality and design. However, all three of their place in the industry. Vevore is cheap but you know that from the start and appeals to hobbyists and start ups.
The Hilco was the best in my opinion but I would use the Vevore just because it was cheaper. I may repair the faulty gate design by cutting a 2 inch piece of tubing at a 40 degree angle at the bottom and slot it and move the bung. Stainless is easy to TIG. Even if you paid someone I would think it would still be money ahead for a piece of equipment used seldomly.
But the Hilco is the Best Buy and balance.
Would love your opinions even though Vevore is sponsoring you. Maybe you drive design change with them for the future.
Of course I had my preferred extractor, but as I was making a comparison video to show the different choices an individual has when choosing an extractor, I wanted them to make the decision for themselves based on what they saw and not what I thought. Each extractor preformed the function it was designed to do, it was the price someone wanted to pay that would determine which one suits them best, and if you paid more money, you got better quality along with better performance. Just to clarify, none of the manufacturers sponsor me, but all submitted their product for the comparison. And one final comment, for my money, it would have been the Hillco extractor. I started in 2019 by buying a 2 frame extractor that looks very much like the Vevor. After the honey season was over last year I purchased the UltraMax (next size up) from HillCo. I'm looking forward to using it this year. I'd like to get a set of the new hinges for the cover. HillCo is constantly improving their products!
The UltraMax slopes out and forward towards the exit gate. The gate is also formed in to the bottom.
I would call them "L" bolts.
On my 2 frame tangential I flip the frames twice to balance the frames. After the first flip I run 5 minutes per side. If the frames are balanced to start then it's only one flip.

In the UK lookalike Vevors under different brand names sell for between 250 and 600 of our British pounds, usually we pay the same in £'s as you pay in $'s. The price differential is crazy. and for the quality I'd say 250-300 is the right price. For a well built extractor we'd expect to pay 900+. We bought one 5 years ago and for our 6 hives it works well enough as we usually only have 18 supers to extract. Our older model has substantial metal legs bolted to substantial welded brackets so was better made but the rest looks identical. It does need tipping to extract all the honey but we've never found that much of an issue. Fixing a small magnet to the top of the cover keeps it open as it then attached to the top of the motor. There should be a ball bearing in the bottom of the tank for the cage to spin on. If you don't leave the tap open the frame lugs quickly dip into the honey. Initial slow running and turning the frames more than once can minimise the wobble, with only a few supers this isn't a big issue. Easy to take apart and very easy to clean. After five years our motor needs replacing which costs about 130 so debating whether to repair or spend a lot more on a good make.
Vevors might be fine but if a lookalike I'd suggest having it checked for electrical safety, on our unbranded version the live supply wire routes to the microswitch on the cover, if that chafes or loosens and comes into contact with the metal it's attached to then the extractor could be live. The earth wire goes to the speed regulator but on ours does not carry through to the motor and hence back to the chassis so I don't see any path to earth in the event of a fault except through someone touching it. Think it's easily resolved with an earth wire from the speed regulator to the chassis and using an RCD but I'm no electrician so suggest taking advice.
We I made my mind up its going to be Hillco for sure getting the hand crank nice thing about that you can add a motor at any time
On most extractors that is an available option, get the hand crank first and then the motor upgrade. I'll say that the Vivor is out of the running for anyone except the short timer or brand new beginner beekeeper. This is an interesting inexpensive brand coming out of China and they make a whole lot of different stuff including construction tools.
What can you say about tanks that have a sloped bottom and the correct location for the outlet? Superior! I'd say the preference is up to the individual for these two excellent machines. I think that the Hillco is the overall winner:
It appears strong enough even without the extra hoops at top and bottom, look at the rolled profiled ribs on the tank that will add some strength! A solid build overall and a 3-year warranty; $719.00 shipping included is a great price compared to the Maxant, legs included as well.

watched another review on the VEVOR and the guy that had it , after using the tank where the legs attach form stress cracks after a short. he had to get the tank rewelded to prevent leaking

Jeff and Charlie, Great video and presentation. I presently have a manual 2 frame Velvor extractor, it was very inexpensive but does have short-comings. I like the idea of Hilco's 3 year warranty, with eight hives it would take me 3 years to really give it a good workout. It would be nice to hear from you how the extracting of medium frames in the radial flow worked out. Especially where two mediums were back to back during the extraction. Will be placing an order for one of those extractors next January at the Hive Life Convention. Look forward to seeing you and your bride again at Hive Life. Nice job Jeff and Charlie. John @ Hillco has a video on his website that explains the motor and worm drive. I would prefer to spend a little more to get a simple/beefy motor and capacity for future expansion. I am looking at the 18 frame UltraMax extractor. It is $400 dollars more than the minimax. Added a second apiary this year with plans for a third site. I am about 2/3rds of the way toward saving up for the UltraMax.

Well I own the cheep one coz I am a cheep butt😂😂😂 but as my grand father always said : son you get what you pay for ❤ but the only drawback that I have on mine is like you said the spec it clean up is a little longer because you have to tip the unit to drain and you do not get oh I would say you probably lose maybe 3 to 4 ounces of honey that you don’t get out.. but they really could not weld a nipple on the side without getting into paten pending problems but with the way they got their spec and they cannot have a raise bottom because of the plastic nut turns but for 300 bucks I’m going on year number three this year it hasn’t broke on me. It hasn’t give me an ounce problem but I know there are some that had problems but being an all fair and honest you can buy a lemon Cadillac but thank you for a great demonstration. Had I seen your video before I probably would’ve not bought the vector. But? It does a job and I did not really expect a Cadillac for $300. I knew I was buying a horse and buggy when I bought it but thank you for a great comparison.
Even the less expensive extractors do the same job, and as long as that's done, it's all good. However, as one continues on in their beekeeping journey, we tend to upgrade our equipment looking for more efficiency and ease of operation. Great comparisons. That Vevor you have is not the 8/4 version. It will only do 4 medium frames in the tangential position. Even if you load 8 radially (2 next to the divider) one or both will flip over into the tangential position when the machine starts to spin. I just purchased and used (for the first time) the 8/4 Vevor ($270) and it has a different basket. There is a space that will hold a medium frame in the radial position between each compartment. I tried loading 8 frames in it radially and at least one of the mediums always fell into the tangential position. I finally gave up and just put 4 in the extractor in the aforementioned space and it worked fine. I suppose I could have run 4 radial and 4 tangential but that seems like a hassle. The four radial kept up with me as I cannot uncap that fast anyway. Your assessment of the Vevor was fair with the exception of 2 things. Mine has magnets that hold the plexi-covers open. I think maybe you got the covers reversed. Also it doesn't take two people to put the motor on. I have done it at least 5 times with no help. You went too easy on them with the height of the gate. You have to tip the unit AND use a spoon to lift the honey into the gate. That is annoying and time consuming.
I AM NOT defending or promoting the Vevor. Its functional and that's about it. It did beat the heck the work load I had with my Mann Lake, Hand crank, 3 frame tangential and cost much less. Hopefully, it'll help me earn enough honey money to be able to upgrade to a Hillco 18 or a Lyson 20.

I have this model. It does hold 8 medium frames in the radial position. Each of the four compartments hold 2 frames on angles; one on either side of the compartment. Nothing goes in the front position, The front position is for deep only. It's best to practice with empty frames before loading sticky, drippy honey frames. Vevor has videos to show you how to operate the machine. The biggest cons are replacing the motor assembly( aligning J bolts and frame cage shaft with out cutting your hands is challenging). The shaft coupler collar is under the lid and the allan bolts must be tight or the frame cage will not spin. The handle on my honey gate snapped off when I was tightening during installation. I over tightened an acorn nut and it exploded. Yes there is magnets on doors that stick to motor holding the door open. The motor fan was making a clattering noise then I noticed it was hitting the cover grate. I bent the cover grate up and noise stopped. There's also shutoff switch's on doors that kill motor if door is opened while spinning. You need to be handy to tweak some sloppy Chinese manufacturing

I have that exact extractor maxant. It has been very dependable but there is a week spot. Where the legs attach to the tank the little angle clip. With the vibration of extraction the angle clip cracks and the leg comes off I had to have that part replaced
Also it is a little tight to load

The only time that tilting the tanks to get the last bit out would be a problem, is if they have to be bolted to the floor so they dont move around when spinning, We had one that spun so violently it ripped the plug out of the wall that was way back in 1996 ish lol My grandad went nuts at the manufacturer as it was quite expensive. We have sinse made our own that does not vibrate around or need to be tilted Anyways great reviews Mr Ed
