Lightweight is good and what did I use it for it’s a lawnmower ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxTPN04aT-Qdjr_KS3ql7ng8wnU3wwsCqk also recommend Yes it is lightweight so hence not as robust as our old one. But if you take care it does the job really well.

I cannot tell you how much I appreciate this video. It is so unbelievably rare to find a straightforward video that explains steps/parts correctly. Most videos are either "here's the exact steps for this single model with zero explanation," or they go to the other extreme of "here's a PhD explanation of how a carb works - now that you know each molecular compound of the components in your mower you should be able to easily fix it"....
Why can't more people be like you? You emphasized and explained key factors with as many or little details are necessary to understand, other minor details included help build an overarching picture of the problem.
Thank you for being a great UA-cam creator!

My mower was doing this. My grass was so long it just cut out on contact. I never fixed any kind of engine in my life but i am very good with my hands so thought "what the hell, let me try this."
Boom! Mower fixed. Turning over with regularity and ease and my lawn has been tamed.
    Thank you so much. 🏆

Thanks for the video was very informative. I always dump the gas in a clear container to see if there is any water in the gas. Water is heavier than gas so it will always be on the bottom and easier to see in a clear container. Thanks again

Thank you so very much for doing this video. My son (16 years old) cuts the neighbor's grass with their lawnmower and it had this same problem. We watched this video and my son decided on his own to try and fix it. Turns out that it was the exact same lawnmower. Long story short, my son cleaned the carb and it runs great. Keep up the great work. I must say that your video is very informative without the need for talking.......genius!

I have a BSME but I had to watch a few UA-cam videos to learn how to fix a similar surging problem with my TroyBilt mower. It was the bolt that holds the float bowl was plugged. A blast of compressed air that I bought to clean my computer and the use of a sewing needle to clean the passages and it was perfect. It's almost 25 years old and it starts on the first or second pull.

Good video. Thanks for posting. One tip I'd pass on is don't blow air into the fuel inlet pipe from the outside of the carb. That little rubber seat for the needle can get dislodged and go flying. Always blow through the bowl side to prevent that.

  • @TrehanCreekOutdoors
    @TrehanCreekOutdoors 5 років тому +5

Cleaning the carb as you demonstrate is the easy, hoped for solution to surging. There are other things that can cause the same problem however. In my mower a brand new carb was installed and the entire mower checked by a qualified mechanic. Cranked excellent and ran well enough to get my front lawn cut but half way through the rear yard the surging started extremely bad and eventually the mower reduced itself to barely even running at all, blowing out black smoke from the exhaust due to a way too rich fuel mixture. The new carb was put on due to the mower not wanting to stay running on slopes and being difficult to crank.
A new fuel line was also installed with the new carb. Thus since it is getting a far too rich mixture and the choke seems to be staying closed, it smacks of problems with either the governor being stuck in the full forward position or the heat control closing the choke despite the mower being hot from use. It's even possible the rubber crankcase vent tube is cracked and allowing in too much air which may be causing the carb to attempt to compensate by enriching the fuel mixture to keep the machine running.
Note that my mower is running way too rich, not too lean. This indicates the gas line or the in tank fuel filter isn't stopped up with trash and restricting gas flow. We know the motor itself works just fine, as the mower did initially crank and run properly for about 30 minutes.
The point being, everyone on UA-cam seems to enjoy doing carb cleaning videos. Most of the time when you see the carb being cleaned, there is virtually nothing really needing cleaning. No sediment in the bowl, no stopped up jets, nothing that was an obvious reason that would have been causing the surging, hard cranking, or poor performance. We are just asked to believe that cleaning the carb will solve the problems of surging when many times that isn't really the entire problem. Typically at the end of a carb cleaning video we see a one pull start, a few feet of cutting operation, and a motor shut down. My mower did all that immediately after the new carb was installed. The real test is does a simple carb cleaning end the problem for an extended period of time.
I'm not a fan of cheap all plastic carbs. But I am equally not a fan of mowers that attempt to self control all their operation settings. I preferred the days when mowers had operator controlled chokes and throttles that could be set as desired and when carbs were all metal.
BTW, for those who might want to know we have a local station that sells non-ethanol gas. Not a drop of ethanol gas has ever been put in any of my lawn equipment or other motorized tools so ethanol isn't the culprit either.
My mower has the 7.25 version of this same B & S engine which is simply a slightly bigger motor but with all the same basic parts. Anyone have any further suggestions for what I should do next, I'm all ears.

Thank you for making this. Mine worked on the first pull after this cleaning. One note from my experience: Upon reassembly, the jet assembly required a huge amount of force to re-install but I did get it in. Then I found the choke plate could not move. Why: The venturi had migrated into the path of the choke blade. I then removed the jet assembly, slide the venturi back into position and the jets reinstalled with only a little pressure needed. This was a very helpful video.

For a while, I thought that that was how they built them. I had two mowers in a row that did that and I figured it was normal.
I saw another channel's video on fixing it. I tried unsuccessfully, to do a quick cleaning to fix mine.
Went looking for the video and then found yours and figured I may as well get another opinion.

Excellent video mate, just what i need for my BRAND NEW Honda mower, which has this issue !!!!! What a piece of junk !!! They definitely don't build them like they used to. My dad had a cast iron Hayter Merlin, lasted him 40 years plus and never went wrong apart from a couple of new throttle cables over the years and a new rear roller. Don't think he ever bothered servicing it either... Cheers 👍

Awesome videos man. I just got a Husqvarna 580 backpack leaf blower from a guy throwing it in a dumpster on my way home from work. He said it had a bad bearing somewhere in the motor. Well.....I asked to take it and he laughed but said sure. I brought it home and found out it was missing 4 bolts and the fan. $30 later and this almost $600 blower is running like new. Kind of wish I had a camera to record the breakdown, fix and reassembly like you do. Keep up the great work and I’ll be sure to stay tuned for more.

That's my exact mower. You saved me buying a new plastic carb.
When I bought this I couldn't figure out why there wasn't a fuel shut off. Manual didn't mention the carb drain plug either for winter storage.
Don't like the auto choke or no-throttle. They just assume nobody nobody knows how to drive a mover, and when it quits in a few years, it's disposable.

Very useful video. Had similar hunting issue with my Craftsman mower, but also sputtering and lack of power. Removed carb and cleaned per video. Not shown on video, I had an additional white plastic ring or "collar" located in carb throat which fell out after the jet removed. In re-assembling this part needed to be fitted back in the carb throat with the hole in the "collar" aligned for the jet to fit through. Also in re-assembling the bowl cover to the carb body you have to correctly orient the cover, in case you forget which way, there is a very small indentation in the cover which accomodates (clears) the top of the jet, otherwise the cover is 180 degrees misaligned and the bowl cover will not seat. Might be obvious to more mechanical types, but these are some things I discovered. Cheers...

If nobody has mentioned this, some fuel additives prevent the jet from becoming restricted with varnish and other crud.. The past few years, I add 1-Tbs each of Marvels Mystery Oil and 2-Cycle oil to a 2-gallon gas can and this stuff dissolves the buildup and the engine runs trouble free all summer. This has saved me a lot of time fixing fuel problems and then I run them out of fuel for long term storage.

They are more quality now. It's not plastic it's composite it has many advantages. If it's not steel it doesn't mean it's bad. I have lawnmower that has steel deck and my neighbor had one that has plastic or composite one. So the question is what's more quality some would say the steel one cause steel is stronger than plastic...Well guess what on steel lawn mower a wheel fell of and when i looked under there was a huge rust hole (that wouldn't happen if grass wasn't hidden at that spot). Steel has its advantages for strength but deck doesn't really need much strength so other materials are fine to use.

One thing to those having to deal with these carburetors. If you can't get the metering assembly to go back in, it's the white plastic ring in the carb throat, that falls out sometimes. It has a hole for the tube to come into the throat and it has to be aligned. Why it doesn't have a keyway or notch to get it right is beyond me. It's a little difficult to align since you can't see inside and it has to be perfect.

This is a good video for someone wanting to DIY fix their own mower, but for a shop those plastic carburetors are inexpensive and I just replace them. Saves the owner money and saves my time. Also depends on what type of mower it is as well, most people buy throw away weed trimmers and lawnmowers. I’ve literally junked out several perfectly working and running mowers and trimmers due to this.

Only thing was I didn't realise the plastic venturi (not on your model, inside the bore in front of the butterfly) falls out and after finding it on the floor I couldn't understand why the mower ran so bad. Once in and carb dismantled for the tenth time It now runs well.

Are these style of carbs known to go bad as in just wear out after a few years? Because I had more trouble with these carb surgeing up and down or doing that causing the mower to die. I never had much trouble out of the older style carbs on the Brigges and Stratton engine.
Ive cleand out my carb / gas tank, fresh gas and mower will run fine but just a week later to maybe 2 weeks later this last time, the mower again starts surgeing up and down sometimes as your mowing it might clear up for a little bit but then start again. Ive even put in new spark plug and air filter.
Any idea's of what to do next am thinking replace the carb?

Yah I don’t care for those carbs or the new OHV Briggs. The quantum style was the best they had in my opinion.
Most of the time I end up breaking the plastic pierce that comes out so I don’t take it out from the white cartridge..
Good job there , your are very methodical in how you work👏

Plastic junk, trying to save money under the excuse of making it "ethanol friendly". Nice job in the repair!
It's amazing how many people just want to buy a new mower instead of doing some maintenance on it.

9:43 watch your eyes. I had glasses on, but the cleaner sprayed out and it was a money shot, right into my eye. Luckily I blinked fast enough and a good rinse took care of it. After that I used the full face mask.

@@FixingWithPassion O Okay I understand that the jet is only .016 of an inch. And that all the other carbs on older lawn mowers are .030 of an inch.

Nathan Rohrbough I just bought a Troy Bill model series 830. Has electric start and self propelled. I’m pretty excited. It starts up on the first pull which is the first time in my life that’s happened. So I assume the carb is in good condition. I bought it from an older gentleman and it’s been sitting a while.
