congrats on getting to the board process and i hope you make it, we always need some very good aviators. Just watching your videos i think you will do great. Good Luck i can't wait for you to let us know the results.
Good afternoon. You seem to have a good handle on WOFT Specialist. My class was Class 83-08, maroon flight. In my time we entered with 83 Candidates, approximately 25% were Guard or Reserve. I was Active Duty. Flight training fir warrants has changed since then, in my opinion for the better. We initially entered in WOCMDC, Warrant officer Military Development Course. It lasted approximately 8 weeks. Only after successful completion did the candidate cross over to Basic flight, called primary. Primary lasted approximately 9 weeks. I will tell you, if you failed at any point along the entire 55 week program, you left (were administratively eliminated) and re-entered active duty in an MOS that the Army chose to place you into. Rarely was it your original MOS. Good luck to you. You should do well.
That is great why did you get out or are you still in? Im excited to get past my next board and go to flight school its definitely been a dream of mine for some time. I didn't get selected after this board but we have a new one coming up here soon. 🙏 Thank you
Bro, I got E-4s in my unit in the guard that were literally in the Iraq War Invasion. E-4s run most combat arms guard units because the promotion system sucks
Hey congratulations man! My boards happening right now. Not sure if its due to covid but they literally scrapped the entire in person interview process. Not sure if Georgia is an isolated case, but it could be! I hope you got in! And I sure hope I do to. Been a helluva process.
Must be Georgia man I’ve done two baked this past year all in person but again this is Florida 🤣 but good luck man I’m still waiting on a medical waiver hope to see you at Rucker 👊🏽🇺🇸

I got super lucky not having to do an actual WOFT interview. I got accepted back in June or July. I know that I was the last group that had to submit a DA photo.
I think not making SGT after 9 years is hurting your chances, it shows how motivated you are or are not. We had a crew chief in my Air Cavalry Troop who the CO would not sign off to go since (at the time in J series?) we had one UH-1 Huey that he was the crew chief for it. He later went about the 5 year mark if I remember correctly.

So was the interview on base or were you flown out, asking cause I notice the hotel looking room and luggage. Also did they look at everything in detail in the packet. My LOR are made, just not signed and they are.... eh ok at best. May have to rewrite them myself haha
The interviews are conducted at the aviation hangar - technically on base for NG. As for flying me out no this is something I had to do because I was living in MA and Drilling in the FL Guard. But you may be able to inquire about travel pay with your unit but not sure they would like you leaving the state to try and join another guard. And yes they review your packet before you even get accepted to go in front of the board. Attention detail with the packet set up is huge - follow the packet instructions very closely
The board appearance are usually the hardest. It is often on how the board feels and they compare you to other candidates. If they only have 10 slots and interview 20 people then some who are good won't make it. I did many a boards during my 22 years of service. My last board turned into a political shit show so that was the last one I did.
Just wondering about the placement of your French Commando Badge. I thought it went with the dagger straight up but looks crooked on your uniform? Also, you can wear it on the edge of your pocket so it isn't covered by uniform. Best of luck!
So I've seen people wear it straight up and some crooked. I haven't found a regulation on how it should be worn but good observation if you do find a regulation let me know! Definitely don't want to wear it incorrectly, thank you 🙏
@@ChristopherKellum It was pinned on us straight up and worn by the French soldiers that way also. Of course things change but every person I know that had it wore it straight up.

@@ChristopherKellum Thanks , by " keep it to yourself " what do you mean ? Also I don't really go to college so any suggestions on where to get those recommendation letters ?
Now, this is for a guard unit slot right? I have never heard of a physical in-person board for active duty packets. Unless, your CO or BC requires it for their LOR's.
@@ChristopherKellum Active duty has in-person promotion boards for SGT and SSG, however, the warrant board is handled much like a SFC board. It is a panel of members that look at your board packet to see if you exemplify what they want in a WO candidate. Until last year, you also had to submit a DA photo in your dress blues.

I’m a marine now and our pft is a bit different than yours in the army and I don’t know where a 270 for the army is in terms of how good it is. I’m not the best at pt and would obviously have to work but can you give an example of what you’d need to get a 270 and how much that score affects your entry?
I'm similar to your situation I got out for about 5 years I'm still a specialist but should be getting my E5 soon. I'm applying for flight school this year. Do you know if that's 10 years active duty or 10 years in general
I tried to fly helicopters for the army, but they said I was too old to fly.....their loss. over a decade as Air Force flight crew and I missed my window to transfer over. Oh well.
I would say the questions you would see would be more related to civilian jobs and career any leadership roles you had or situations you may have had to act quickly on since not being in the military it would be unfair to ask military related questions unless it pertains to helicopter choices and why you want to join the military
@@ChristopherKellum thank you so much I’m going for a civilian high school to flight school packet and all I have left is the board selection. I got a 48 on my sift. 9 Years and still a SP4? During my era, he would be Chapter out for failing to make E-5. I made E-5 with less than 4 Years and E-6 with less than 7 Years. I went to PNOC as a SP4 and BNOC as a SGT E-5. I was was a SSG(P) when I ETS.. Had I stayed in, I would have been promoted to E-7. I had 10 years in. when I ETS. I would have been promoted with 9 years in but I needed 3 years left in order to be promoted. My friend who was a 19K like me made SFC E-7 with 9 Years in. He reenlisted for 6 years so he was promoted. We had a SGY E-% with 20 years who retired. The reason why he was not Chaptered out for failing to make SSG E-6 was the Army Regulations changed during his Enlistment so at 20 years he retired. The Regulations changed to as a SGT E-5 you had to make $$G E-6 with in 12 years our you were out. As a SSG E-6 you were out when you reached 20 years. I saw many NCO's get rifted (QMP) out. One was a SFC E-7 with 19 years in. Another was a SSG E-6 who was a fellow Army Recruiter. He was rifted (QMP) with 18 years in. The Army was Top Heavy with NCO's so the Promotion Boards began to identify substandard NCO's for (QMP). The Army denied reenlistment to substandard NCO's by having to wait util the last 30 days of an enlistment and needing approval from the Battalion Commander LTC 0-5 and Brigade Commander 0-6. It was also required to pass your SQT Test, PT Test, Weapons Qualification, Have a ASVAB GT Score of 110 or higher, Have an Enlisted Evaluation Report of 120 or higher, have attended PNOC and BNOC. Have Completed Army Correspondence Courses for your MOS. Rifted NCO received an reenlistment code RE-3 on their DD Form 214 which meant they could not enlistment. All they could do was to enlist in the Army Reserve or the Army National Guard. If there was a reenlistment code RE-1 you could enlist back in after being out for 30 days but you would lose one stripe. If you were a SSG E-6 it meant enlisting back in as a SGT E-5 but you had to make SSG E-6 during your new enlistment or you were out.

I’m a marine now and our pft is a bit different than yours in the army and I don’t know where a 270 for the army is in terms of how good it is. I’m not the best at pt and would obviously have to work but can you give an example of what you’d need to get a 270 and how much that score affects your entry?
What is SIFT sir?
U.S. Army's Selection Instrument for Flight Training Exam - need to pass to go to the board + flight physical
Interesting last name Kellum
Havent been in since 01 to 05. But what hunger games type of foreign award is that? Is that a dinosaur and Iraq with a sword?
So ... did you make it?
Had to get a medical waiver and just attended a new board I’m pending results hopefully will find out this week 🤞🏽
As a WO do you mainly fly compared to officer?
A lot more guaranteed
I'm similar to your situation I got out for about 5 years I'm still a specialist but should be getting my E5 soon. I'm applying for flight school this year. Do you know if that's 10 years active duty or 10 years in general
updates?
I didn't get selected this board. I have one coming up February stay tuned
@@ChristopherKellum Keep going brother. I know you will get it!
Hi,
I will get my bachelor’s in business and am interested in commissioning through OCS to become a pilot. Any tips?
Get a high OML
Any updates?
This week!
I tried to fly helicopters for the army, but they said I was too old to fly.....their loss. over a decade as Air Force flight crew and I missed my window to transfer over. Oh well.
Sorry to hear this man I agree she is just a number especially if you can pass all the test like everyone else
Do you think I can go for Warrant Officer pilot? I turn 34 this October…I’m an E-5 in the Navy though…
You know.. I’ve never seen a warrant in dress uniform lol I just thought of that
Updates ?
this week!
I am comercial pilot and i’ll find recruiter and he wants me to go your route do you recommend me to do it
What kind of questions would a Civilian WOFT recruit get asked?
I would say the questions you would see would be more related to civilian jobs and career any leadership roles you had or situations you may have had to act quickly on since not being in the military it would be unfair to ask military related questions unless it pertains to helicopter choices and why you want to join the military
@@ChristopherKellum thank you so much I’m going for a civilian high school to flight school packet and all I have left is the board selection. I got a 48 on my sift. I have letters a recommendation from a CW5, a retired CW five and a colonel who is a command of a aviation unit. I would love any tips or tricks for the board and life as an aviator.
@Christopher Kellum do you know what do I include in the Application packet as a non-prior applicant?
Wow 9 year Specialist I am not putting you down however, it does appear the enlisted game is not your game.
This man is built like an Army snek 🥵😂😂😂
Any News???
Soon😳
would being in marine jrotc (I am a freshman) look good on a WOFT packet or does it not really matter unless you want to college/officer route?
No college degree needed for WOFT it’ll definitely look good you’d need to talk to a recruiter
Hello SGT, so if you got selected as flight warrant, you guarantee has a pilot job, or it still have elimination risk during different school like WOCS or SERE, how many people will fail those schools?
Yes you can fail anywhere along the way.
How old are you Chris?
27
Is 31 too old to become a rotor wing Pilot in the Army? I’m an Engineer in the Aerospace Industry but I would like to join as a pilot in the Guard/reserves.
@@juansantiago1441 no, cut off is 32. Even then waivers are possible, not sure for civilians tho
What Books should we study if we wanna pass SIFT
FAA handbook rotary wing chapters 1-3
SIFT for dummies helped me
And also online trivium test prep!
@@ChristopherKellum so after taking the SIFT you have to turn in a packet then go to an interview.. I hurd that I cant jump right into becoming an aviator I have to be a E5 first then switch to aviation to be a warrent officer
After the sift you’ll do the class 1A physical have your leadership reach out to medical to schedule it. For warrant officer flight training (WOFT) you only need to be an E4. they’ll send you to WOCS then you’ll go to FT Rucker for flight school
@@ChristopherKellum so in the meantime can I be a military police

E4 at 9 years, you better get promoted or you'll be kicked out. Retention points
Hopefully sooner than later 🤞🏽
Nobody cares.
@@teeembeee You care because you took time to read and reply
@@charlesanthony4693 You really think anyone cares when you made E5 or E6? This guy is going to be a Warrant pilot....and that I do care about because he has an interesting story.....and you don't.
@@teeembeee Who are you? what rank are you? who cares that you do not care?
Guys like you probably never served.
During Vietnam my brother made Spec 5 in 18 months. Was offered E-6 is he stayed in. How things change.
