Liberty Justice Dude your expectations are way too high. The guy says that it was funny and wishes the creators well, and you're disappointed in him. You want him to be some fake ass bitch like every other celebrity with some rehearsed line? This is just his personality. Get over it.
His response was actually pretty respectful and if anything he decided to creatively play with what kind of meanings he would derive from their skit of him, as opposed to bashing it like other butthurt celebs might.
Being mocked on South Park is like bands having a song parodied by Weird Al, it's just one of the ways you know you've transcended the level of average Hollywood celebrity.
No the whole point of South Park making fun of them isn’t to show there “average” it’s to show they really don’t matter and they don’t do anything for society besides being “famous”
Absolutely, he could've taken it a lot better , his reaction could've made him a legend beyond belief, but now he's just a man, a man with hurt feewings.
The best thing about this is you can see it in his face as he's answering that all he wants to do is fight Matt and Trey, and that means they would win, so it's this constant internal struggle for him.
john higgins This is exactly correct. I love South Park but people who think that everyone featured in it lives an immense existential struggle from that point on is a moron. He’s clearly trying not to laugh.
*barges into editor's office* Who do you think you are?! "I'm the editor" I know you're the bloomin' editor, I mean who do you think you are sending interviewers to ask me about South Pahk ya testicle?!
xoxaine deezy Oh yeah for sure, but I'm saying it's good seeing that he didn't take it to heart and laughed it off. A lot of celebrities wouldn't of done that.
i love it. he was definitely amused with Matt and Trey. He knew it wasn't hate from them, in other episodes they reference him, and Wendy has a poster of him to boot. :)
South Park is supposed to be where they can actually get away with everything, including celebrities. The one with Tom Cruise was freaking hilarious and Tom Cruise himself getting slightly pissed off at it is even more hilarious.
What??? If you watched the episode they completely ripped him, it wasn't some sort of symbolism of his struggle. He is so delusional it's stupid. In no way was his response "humble", but exactly the opposite.
Actually it was smart of him to say, because he knew that if he whined or complained about it, Trey and Matt would have had *him* "packing fudge" on an assembly line -- and then later having "Sea-Man" on his back.
SingleTax No it wasn't. He should have just said it was funny. That would be the smart thing to do, not try to make the episode seem like it was symbolic of his life and struggle... what a douche.
I realize this clip is 3,000 years old, but it's so funny that he tries to turn around the fact that South Park completely made fun of him by trying to use it as some sort of symbolism of him struggling....fighting.... to make it in showbiz from a small town in New Zealand.
When I watched the russel crowe episode I never associated it with the real actor but I just thought him going around the world beating people up for no reason was hilarious. Love russel crowe and I hope he comes out with something I will love as much as GLADIATOR.
He really took that in such good stride. The moment with Al Gore though when he talked about the ManBearPig being real in an episode of South Park, he definitely took it in good stride and laughed about it, and that made it more enjoyable.
You didn’t understand what he was saying. He never claimed that he grew up in the slums. What he’s saying is for an NZ/ Aus actor from whoever he’s from to make it to Hollywood and become a massive movie star took a lot of fight (it’s very unlikely to succeed) and that he unfortunately channeled that “fight” unproductively on a few occasions
"In the DVD commentary for this episode, Trey Parker states that this episode was made "just to rip on Russell Crowe" after he and Matt Stone had an uncomfortable incident with the actor. According to Parker, he and Stone were invited to Crowe's house to listen to and give their thoughts on the demo tape for his album. However, when they arrived, Parker claims, there were a handful of Crowe's friends there; and the "Demo tape" was, in fact, a complete album that Crowe simply wanted all his friends to listen to in its entirety. Parker offered a suggestion to improve one of the songs, which apparently did not sit well with Crowe and led to this episode. Despite this, however, Parker and Stone claim there are no hostile feelings between them and Crowe. Crowe has since publicly stated that he enjoyed the episode and even contacted the duo to congratulate them on the success of their movie Team America: World Police. Parker also stated that Crowe was "a really cool guy" and "a very talented actor", the latter referencing how bad he and Stone secretly thought the album was, which Parker described as Bon Jovi meets Hepatitis B."
You find it funny, you take it light hearted and you don't let it offend you....or else Parker and Stone will rip on you and never let it go until the end of time lol

Fun fact i heard from the episode commentary, crowe actually knew Matt and Trey and invited them to listen to a preview of his music. They said everyone else was talking it up but they didn't really dig it and thought it sounded kinda like bon jovi. Can't remember what they said to him (it's on the commentary) but crowe ignored the comment and said something along the lines of "well you can do that when you make your record." which is why they decided to do an episode with him singing. Also in all his movies he seemed to be fighting everyone. Was a fun dig between people who knew each other imo, his reactions seems more like those bloody cheeky lil buggers. He took it on the chin. Can't imagine they got any more album preview invites after that though.
The german version is quite unique because the voice talent voicing Russel Crowe in movies actually did his part in this South Park episode. So, in a sense, the joke got intensified for German viewers. One of the rare instances in which I actually prefer the German version because of something like this happening. "The fighting thing is analogous to my struggle as an actor. I was in New Zealand, and now I'm in New York. That's a long way." That's the most Hollywood thing I've ever heard, and it's a reaction to a South Park clip. Jesus.
The speech didn't even make sense. This parody that painted him as a hyper-masculine douchebag reminded him that he's been a fighter his whole life? What a narcissist. He acts as if the entirety of New Zealand is a slum that he had to battle his way out of when the reality is his parents had enough money to relocate their family to Australia, so it's not as if he grew up dirt poor.
Oh My God it's Russell Crowe Oh My god I never seen an actor before oh my god. I'm 6 years late but I just realized that I had to see his reaction to this. Awesome to know that he has a sense of humor and willing to admit to his issues during the time. That deserves much respect.
