What I’m talking about. With more roads across this great country under construction and at any given moment you might need to “detour”, might be out of traffic down some area off the highway onto a frontage or side road, wherever. These bikes are built to handle. Durable to navigate rough terrain while being super smooth on the super slab. All while looking cool. Adventure bikes have long been the Swiss Army knife of motorcycles just getting more attention these days for their inherent versatility. Great job crew. Matt put some hair somewhere on that face. Corporate does allow it. Ride safe and ride often. Peace.
Make your way up here to Northern Minnesota, ride the north shore of Lake Superior and do the Lake Superior loop. It takes you through Northern Minnesota, Canada, Upper Michigan, and Northern Wisconsin.
Another great video! Good advice too about not having the PA (or any large adventure bike) as your first bike off-road. I have lots of road and street experience but none off-road. I'm looking at a Honda CB500X for my first off-road adventure bike and then giving it to my wife after a year (she doesn't ride but wants to learn how) and then purchasing a PA. First crawl, then walk, then run!
I've owned an R100GS on which I had a slow first gear front wheel slide out on wet clay solo. Took me a good 45 minutes to get the bike out of that one. I would always have off road biased tyres on a bike that size for extra grip. You get a lot of those gravel back roads here in Australia that are great to explore.
I am not really the off road type but I have to say this was great stuff! And I absolutely loved the sound track. Finally someone departed from that stereotypical Harley music! Are you into Electro? Happy new year everybody!

I was going to suggest Anza Borrego, but with the difficulties of the heavy bikes in sand, I think it would not be so good. Instead, if you want overnighters, to camp out, I suggest the Mohave Preserve, North of I-40. Paved roads like Kelbaker Rd lead to easy side roads, and any level of riding you want to do, and many great campsites can be found near the top of mountains, etc.

Awesome trip and video Matt. Really whets the appetite for adventure touring. Accessory details would be helpful, eg need or otherwise for risers or longer windscreen vs rider height as technical footnotes. Death Valley next…?!
The Panamerica is a great bike but I do not ride off road so I cannot really substantiate purchasing it. It seems to me that if you do not off road with it that defeats the purpose of getting one. Excellent vlog Matt. I look forward to more off road adventures with you and your crew.

I was just riding on the off-road mode most of the time in the dirt. On road I have a custom mode that is mostly road mode with the comfort suspension setting

i just bought the Pan last week. I ordered the hard bags, upgraded the skid plate. Did you install the radiator guard, or the light guard? im really excited to get mine, great video thanks hello from Canada!
I have the radiator guard but not the light guard. I might still get the light guard just to have it. I don’t know if I’ll need it much. I do think the radiator guard is one part that would benefit most people riding off road.

Great video ! I wish we would have hit the road you guys hit when we were there. The one we were on, too much damn sad ! Once the weather clears you can do Holcomb Valley up at Big Bear. You can ride all day up there. There's also a road that will take you from Apple Valley up-and-over to Big Bear which is about a 23 mile treck also an excellent ride. If you're short on time you can always do Lytle Creek up-and-over or up and then back down. You'll want to take Sheep Canyon road. Ride on !
Very entertaining video, great scenery, great story. I really praise Harley Davidson for putting a bike in the market that competes with or even exceeds the competitions bike. In looks, performance and specifications. My choice for such trips though would not be a much too heavy 1000cc plus adventure bike of any brand. I'd like a much lighter more off road capable 1 or 2 cylinder 4 stroke bike. No panniers everything carried in an assistance vehicle. At the end of the day I would be tired from riding difficult but entertaining terrain, not from handling a heavy bike. The joy should not be from the excitement you managed to get there, but how you get there. Back in the day I road a new Yamaha XT600 Ténéré, 1 cylinder 600cc with a large fuel tank. Put on motocross tires. And rode it off road and street. The future of adventure riding should be a 1000-1200cc 1 or 2 cylinder very off road capable bike. 150bhp/150Nm, 200kg ready to go. All the camping gear carried by a drone that is linked to your bike. Today I am riding a 2019 Fat Boy (strictly on road).
Great video! Although I've been riding for years, I'm new to off-road adventure riding. I do a lot of long road trips so I've ordered the Panniers and Top Case. I was wondering how that held up when you fell? I couldn't see any damage to them at all!
Would love to see a real ATB trek, down through Mexico and Central America. You see these all the time on a BMW ATB, be cool to see if the PanAm can hold its own.
Nice job to you and the team. Really enjoy the videos. Great to see Harley getting into the Adventure world, any more adventure rides scheduled? Still enjoying the bike?
Matt , Thanks for another great video . Love the Pan . I believe it will be a welcomed addition to my bike collection . Matt, did Nick's airbag jacket deploy when he went down? He made a comment about the jacket saving his shoulder but I wasn't sure if he was referring to the airbag or his armored jacket that he wears over top of it? I have the same Alpinestar Tech Air 5 and was curious. Thanks. Great video.
I believe he disabled his air bag when we got off road. So, no, it didn't go off. He kept the air bag on because I think it has armor on it that he was still able to benefit from even with the bag off.
Do you think Harley will offer a DCT LIKE African Twin? DCT would be cool in some of Harley’s touring models. It is practically a no maintenance transmission

Thanks for the list! Some of those we have on the list already but a lot I didn't consider. Thanks man. We will have to check some of those locations out. Thank you!
Andrew had the right tires!
Yes sir! He put them on fresh for the trip
Awesome trip and video Matt. Really whets the appetite for adventure touring. Accessory details would be helpful, eg need or otherwise for risers or longer windscreen vs rider height as technical footnotes. Death Valley next…?!
Thanks Dan!! I’ll include more gear details next time.
The Panamerica is a great bike but I do not ride off road so I cannot really substantiate purchasing it. It seems to me that if you do not off road with it that defeats the purpose of getting one. Excellent vlog Matt. I look forward to more off road adventures with you and your crew.
Thanks Clint. Yea, if you aren't going off road then that kinda takes away a lot of the allure. Although a lot of guys ride them 100% on Road
🤘⚡️🤘✨✨
Great video, beautiful scenery but how was the KTM?
The KTM was great! A bit better in the dirt but a bit worse on the highway, so the normal trade off with the middleweight bikes
Thanks, I like the idea of the lighter weight. Their 1250 may be a blast.
@@splodge5714 their 1250 is heavier than the Pan Am to my knowledge, Jamie has the 890.
Lovely video as always. I'm close to pulling the trigger on a new PA, I am wondering if I should wait for the 2023 models as they are not too far off? How have these bikes been selling for your dealership? Do you have any customer feedback you would like to share, good or otherwise? Thanks again and keep up the great work.
Pretty sure the rock piles are from receding ice shelf from last Ice Ade about 12000 years ago or prior ones.
You guys have ridden Death Valley on your street bikes. Tons of dirts roads in Death Valley to explore on those adventure bikes.
Yea, I Suppose we need to do it again and stick to dirt roads next time.
Nice places nice vlog still waiting to ride the PA next year i think maybe traid in not sure (age and hard to trade in my breakout) anyway all the best for Laidlaws and crew for 2022.Oh and what setteings did you have the PA on ? Where to go next gardesee italy alps etc great scenery good backroads steep inclines .
I was just riding on the off-road mode most of the time in the dirt. On road I have a custom mode that is mostly road mode with the comfort suspension setting
By Indian standarts (I mean "in India" 🇮🇳) that "off-road" is closer to a highway. I think those guys would smash y'all on 300cc Bajaj's And R.Enfields wearing slip-ons.
That being said I really love your travel series of videos and genuinely think that you're amazing CEO.
Great video. Christmas was good. Happy New Year! Resolution is to do suspension on the Harley Road King. Was hoping you could do an update on how the Wilbur's suspension is doing. Another idea...Wilbur's vs Legends suspension.
Be blessed
Hooah!
I’ll have to do a suspension update video. I still have the Wilber’s on my streetglide. I swear by them. Happy new year!
i just bought the Pan last week.
You should do Titus Canyon next.
🛑🛑 Tequila Drinking Game…… 🥃
Take a shot every time the phrase “Joshua Tree” is mentioned 😂👍
I’m Plastered 🥳 🥃 !!!
Sorry Matt….I Couldn’t Resist ✌️.
Happy New Year!!!!🎊🎆
Haha well it is a Video about Joshua Tree.
Ride on !
Thanks for the tip. We have Big Bear on the list!
I’ve been wanting to go jeep or ride Ansa Borrego.
We have been talking about heading down that way
Very entertaining video, great scenery, great story.
I’d like to do something like that. Hopefully in the future.
Question is , would you start out with the special or get the standard and load it up with accessories ? Not sure if the kneeling feature is that important to me , even with having short inseam .
If you’re going off road at all then I would do the special. If you’re on road only then I’d consider the standard if you want to save some money
@@MattLaidlaw Thank you for the advice . Enjoy your videos very much . The special is a fantastic deal . loading up a standard would cost more ,but allows the opportunity to make it a perfect fit . Your dealership is a must visit . Simply Fantastic .
Ocotillo wells 🤘🏻
Keep the ADV stuff coming please
Will do !
Has the PanAmerica opened up your riding opportunities?
How would you have got on if you had tried that run on your cruisers?
Ammunition for the more than 1 bike in the garage argument (n+1)
Area looks fantastic

Back on Two Wheels
Maybe, I don’t know.
nice video. the black pan america had the best tires for the terrain. did you all air down the tires at all when in the sand?
oh and love the deadwood green. never saw one in person, but if i had I might be on one today.
remember if youre not falling, youre not rying!
Is the heat from these bikes going to be more of an issue then other bikes during the summer?
