The "Replicant" sound is just awesome, we know the reference and it's always a pleasure to hear those Vangelis'ish tones ! All other patches are very nice too, especially : "Petrichord" - "Rise of power" - "Haunted Pad" is delicious, it sounds almost like the Onde Martenot from Maurice Martenot ((1926) - "Cutie Bass" is so creamy and "Innerstellar" is from outtaspace ! Great demo !
Thank you! They definitely do, fantastic job on Korgs part. I’ve been digging in with this synth the last couple days and it really has a ton of tone, lots of possibilities. It was a great pick up.
the more i make patches the more this thing sounds like a roland 101 and juno 6 and i figured out how to make the filter respond to velocity more intensive its under hood in the menu
How are you guys getting yours in already? I've got one "pre-ordered" at a local shop with no word on when it'll be showing up. The box stores keep pushing their "expected arrival dates out, and I can't find anything official on Korg's site. Thanks!
Joe Fiala My guess is that mine was among the first pre-orders through Sweetwater and thus among the first to arrive (I'm hoping by week's end or early next week). Also, I got Korg's email yesterday saying that they're being shipped out.
@@ExpandingSound Lol that explains! That was literally the quickest reply to a UA-cam comment I've ever had, I hadn't even finished watching the video! Nice playing.
@@drawntothefire ha ha ha I was looking at the screen when I got the notification.... yea trying to stand a keyboard stand will work in like the first open position which is precarious in its own right, but setting it up for sitting down and it’s way too open. It’s better suited for a desktop
absolutely. I feel bad I've barely scratched the surface with the XD, I got it then got the matriarch and thats kind of stolen the time away. I plan to pull out the xd and start diving in more this week. Its a great sounding board.
just bought this baby ...amazing...my ritual too is going through the presets..but part of the ritual is also to watch inspiring video like yours!!! Combined with my Akai MPC ONE I can finally go dawless!!
I bought a XD a few weeks back to go along with my Novation Peak, Subsequent37 and Model D - it fits perfectly in that space and now I feel complete :D
I still think it’s a very cool capable little synth, and I don’t regret buying it. My biggest 2 gripes are the silly key size, and just the polyphony. At some point I plan to get the module to expand it 4 more voices. Other than that it’s a very big sounding synth for relatively cheap. Definitely worth it
hey nice vid. i have a question. listen to the song yabba dabba doo by don blackman. theres an overdriven synth Bass in that song. could i achieve a similar sound with this synth? i know it has overdrive but i cant really find a vid that shows that particular tone
@@samuelyang1140 If you feel that you don't need that much modulation and LFO destinations capabilities - then yes. It sounds so sharp and clean compared to a4 mk1. Also, it has this digital OSC which by itself is just fantastic. And XD will be expandable with custom wavetables, effect modules. They say it is possible that they will open up custom LFO destinations through menu diving. So potentially XD power will grow. Now it seems limited compared to a4. But those limitations can force you just to sit and make music and tweak the nobs on the front panel. You can also keep a4 for sequencing, sending CV (which expands modulation capabilities of XD). But I'm pretty happy with XD now and I might be also buying Microfreak soon to expand the soundscape capabilities.
@@russianvoodoo people are saying that the multi engine on the xd is actually similar to the microfreak because you can use plaits oscillators on it, have you tried that before?
@@samuelyang1140 nope. but still. it's only 6 from 12 engines. And also there are more shaping capabilities, mod matrix, 64 steps sequencer, looping envelope, LP/HP/BP filter which can bring a lot to the table...
I wound up using a TV tray in this video…. The only unfortunate thing about these smaller form factor synths are it’s hard to get a proper stand…. Often they’ll fit better on a second tier Or something like that. If you have a regular stand you could always use a large board of wood or something to help it fit, otherwise you’ll have to do a little more research about purchasing one. They do make stands that fit them, just make sure in advance

I agree. Out of the 1024 presets that came with the DeepMind, I only kept about 200. However, the sounds by AnalogAudio1 and Geosynths are amazing and really show what it can do.
Gabriel Addenbrooke I wouldn’t.... synths can send out a lot more low end than a guitar, a guitar amp’s speakers aren’t tailored to push that range through, you could do some damage to the amp at high volumes
Small....ha ha. But it doesn't bother me all that much for what they're able to put into this price point. I have other keyboards I can use to control it if it really drives me crazy, so for the cash and portability of it I think its a bargain. Plus sometimes having a smaller footprint is ok when you have a good amount of gear!
@@ExpandingSound Haha. I had the module on preorder but it's been delayed time and time again, then decided to relent and buy the keyboard. I've had bad experience with minikeys, such as the Novation Mininova, but from what I understand these keys are bigger than those? Compared to a full-sized key, how exactly is it smaller for you?
Clark Harrell the mininova has keys similar to the microkorg I think, they’re smaller than this for sure. These definitely feel better than a microkorg to play. There will be times you’ll overshoot an octave here and there but I don’t think it’s terrible for what you’re getting.
Jagpreet Singh a synth can also be used as a midi controller, it has midi controls on it. It just also has its own internal sounds so you can just record them if you choose. Hope this helps you! :)

I have small hands and the Minilogue is still too small for me. I pretty much always stay away from mini boards; I try to go for a full-size Fatar when I can
Well, I think it’s really about preference. Chances are you’ll be more musical with the minilogue XD than the modular, and it does have a 16 step sequencer so even if you don’t know you’re way around a keyboard at all you can still program some patterns that sound nice

What kind of Synth stand do you have for the minilogue? I'm searching for one...
Lol I used a tv stand for this, it’s tough to find one that works well for it’s form factor!
Does the korg have it's own built in speakers, or does it need to be hooked up to an output?
This board needs to be hooked up to an external amplifier or headphones
@@ExpandingSound thanks so much!! Is there a certain amp or PA system you would recommend? I'm just starting out with buying a synth.
