  • In this how to video, I show how to lower or raise the suspension on a torsion bar beam/axle. Usually found on Peugeot's and Citroen's.
    There are other methods. This is the one I prefer, you may have other ways you prefer. That is fine. Happy modding!
    Thank you for watching, all likes and subscribers are very much appreciated, all comments are read and replied to as soon as I can :-)

    Holy damn, this is actually quite a clever design.
    No need to screw around with buying lowering springs (at least for the rear), saves a lot of money.

    I'm new to this channel, I subbed after I saw the quality of the video and you making it easy to do yourself. I just wanted to add this: I have a problem with my rear axle I guess, my car sits low on rear end and one wheel is cambered negative, ride quality isn't the best. Now, do I have to replace the entire axle or just bushings and this torsion bar? I'd really love to hear that it doesn't cost much, as the entire unit costs around 200€ used and new one is even more expensive (no dampers/shocks and springs included).

      You need a new rear axle. The bearings will be too far gone for just replacing as they will have worn the tube.
      Second hand ones are a gamble but can be purchased for £50-£150.
      Rebuilt replacements £200-250 (via eBay)

      It sucks having to replace the entire unit... I estimated all costs and I need to put in 500€ worth of parts to make my car sort of top notch. I payed 1450€ for it. Is it worth? I intended to keep it as it's engine was very well maintained, but it has just a little over 300 000 km on it. That's like 190 000 miles approximately, right? What are your thoughts?

    is it necesery to remove the anti roll bar plate..to lower the car? If you undo only the front bolts of the anti roll plate that holds on the arm..does the anti roll bar with the plates move freelly or..you do that becouse you want to change the anti roll bar..?

    • @PiggyPower
      @PiggyPower  4 роки тому +1

      You can just undo the plate from the arm, but the rubber seals will often hold it in place, giving misleading measurements AND if you twist the old seal inside there, you will likely damage it and thus leave the insides/bearings exposed to moisture/the outside environment 👌🐷💪

    Hi piggy, looking to buy a 205 this weekend and this will be first thing I do. I'm a mechanic and have lowered lots of cars but never a torsion set up. How different is a 205 compared to your vid or same? I dont wanna go mad on it looking at 40mm drop on front springs then rear to match. Is it as clear cut as 40mm springs on front measure the 40mm on the rear and will sit straight down the side afterwards? I dont have GTI money when buying the car so will be either a 1.6 petrol base model or 1.8 diesel model. Is there anything you can think of I will need in advance before its lowered, part wise, to replace or upgrade on the suspension while I'm there as I only intend to do it once, and will the standard shocks be ok on the 40mm drop? Thanks mate and keep it up liked and subscribed.

    • @PiggyPower

      Standard shocks will be fine... But could be worn out due to age... It's very similar in principle to the 306 setup. I'm 90% sure 306 shocks fit the 205 if needing replacements... Look for a nice diesel version and then upgrade layer in time to the 1.9xud turbo lump...dirt cheap, massive upgrade... Message the channel if want more info on it 👍

      If you have not declared the modification to your insurers, it is illegal as your insurance would be invalid.
      If you lower it to the extent where there is no longer any travel in the suspension or a wheel/tyre fouls the bodywork when turned or suspension compressed, also illegal.

      Fully independent suspension at the rear of a fwd car .. for a cheap fwd car of the era this was amazing.

    • @PiggyPower
      @PiggyPower  5 років тому +1

      It all depends... Once an axle has had the plates and bars removed once and all greased up, it's actually quite easy. It's when things are seized that this becomes a real issue. But rear suspension with no maintenance for often 100k + miles isn't too bad considering.
      Have fun 😉🐷💪

    Can you lift the rear suspension with this method say 3" higher than stock? Or will the shock absorber prevent it going any higher? Thanks

    • @PiggyPower
      @PiggyPower  4 роки тому +1

      Yeah you can, you'd need to be cautious about damper length indeed.

      @@PiggyPower Thanks man, I'm building a Peugeot 106 off roader haha! I think I'm going to leave the torsion bars alone and just build spacers to bolt on above the rear axle mounts!

    • @PiggyPower
      @PiggyPower  4 роки тому +1

      You could raise it a bit... I would... Plus add spacers.
      I've been wanting to do similar with a 306 for a long time!

      So there's not the chance to deform my frame/body?

    • @PiggyPower
      @PiggyPower  5 років тому +1

      That depends on 1000 variables! Has it ever been damaged, is all the chassis straight to start with, is all the suspension components like new, is it being lowered properly, is it used as a rally car etc etc. Simply lowering a vehicle won't bend a chassis 👍
