Very good design. Super control of what's often considered an 'ancient' burner. Your work is outstanding, Kate....

Really beautiful. I loved wood burning classes with my Mom as a kid. I was addicted to the smoke smell I think!

+Shannon Scott Thanks for checking it out. I know it was popular when we were kids but I think it is considered too dangerous now lol. It is kind of a lost art, it is really cool to watch her make them.

You can use an handheld hair dryer to remove the stickers from the boards.

that is quite nice! to save a step if you are printing the design from an online source you can us freezer paper. print the design on the wax side of the paper and tape it down and rub it with a wooden spoon to transfer the design

Mandalas are a Hindu and Buddhist design device to help the onlooker focus on their inner self. It does what all art ultimately seeks to do: take your mind and put it on an higher level without you getting too conscious of it.

Some places like 'Home Depot will give you scraps and other stores where you can buy wood, small peces will give you scraps if you ask for pieces that they cannot sell.

I have the same transfer paper that I put dark side down and it’s not transferring properly. Is there s trick to get your design to transfer well?

I've done all my pyrography with a $14 soldering iron. I tried an actual pyrography tool but I find a soldering iron better

Awesome job especially considering the equipment you are using. I wood consider that more of a childs toy then a wood burning tool.

perhaps a cheaper source for birch plywood is Lowes or Home Depot, a 2' X 4' piece is only $14. you then have to cut it into the desired shape but its worth it. the grain is a bit more pronounced too.

Could I paint these with acrylic paint when done burning. And then maybe glaze them.? Of course I believe I would have to gesso them first right.? Thanks for sharing your talent.

    • @TarrinLupo
      @TarrinLupo  7 років тому

I asked Kate about the acrylic and she said you can. She doesn't know what you mean by glazing them? Do you mean firing them after you glaze it? She doesn't know about gesso since she has never used it.

    • @herbalistics9261

What I meant by glazing is using a medium that would put a gloss(shine) over it when completed. Thanks for the quick response.

I suppose that is what she does when she sprays it at the end.

Can you use designs you find from searching google, or do you need designs that are specifically free to use?

Would it not be easier to just run off on a laser copy and press it on the wood?

You could use a temporary adhesive to hold your pattern in place. just a thought.

Terri Gelbaum She does use a temporary adhesive = scotch tape
