I have been doing wood burning for just over 16 years, 10 of those years professionally. I also have a channel teaching how to burn realism with a wire tip wood burner (ValarieConnell /DrawingWithFire).
☆ Woods - basswood, Baltic birch, poplar, maple. Those new to burning should stay away from pine & oak.
    ☆ Tips (a few) 😉
    1. Always sand the wood... 220 grit, 329 grit, 400 grit
    2. Use graphite paper, not carbon paper. (Wanut Hollow or other gray transfer papers)
    3. Turn down your heat. Only use the heat setting you need. Wood burning is a slow & patience growing art form.
    4. If doing realism, don't outline the subjects first.
    5. Use a scrap piece of wood similar to your project wood to test your heat before touching down on your project.
    Happy Burning! 🔥

I do this as craft projects to sell at craft shows. I have found that Basswood is the best for burning. Also, going with the the grain of the wood as much as possible will help with the lines not being so "bumpy" looking. Great job on your first go around.

My son got my one for Mother’s Day and a Wood Burning book from Amazon. You can use any stencil but with a plastic trace it out with pencil plus use tracing paper for more complicated projects.
What I have watched on other videos it’s easier to move the project rather than your hand holding the burner when tracing the outline.

I saw in ur comment u wish u could see there work, u could have viewers send u a picture of there work and place it on ur channel like Kelly Barlow does she is a wonderful cafter...... also I have seen people cut mesh with wood burner pretty cool. I have had my wood burning set for at least three decades. It was from Michaels. It came with five tips. I didn't like the stand so I put money in a heavy duty coffee mug when I am cooling it. Works great. I like the angled tip the best. For lines and shading. I made a very detailed barn scene on a slice of oak with the bark left on the edges. Very rustic and was a gift for husband. Have fun and be creative! Your projects turned out very beautiful. Great job!

I just had to go a little slow at first then as burner heated up more be really careful not to leave it for to long because it would leave burn marks. Also would burn very deep if held in one area to long. Can't wait to see how you improve I'll be trying to find some channels also. Really enjoy doing these kind of projects. 🤗💕💞💓

"Burn Savvy" is a good channel, "Wood Burning University" with Minosa Robinson. She is excellent using the Walnut Hollow versa tool. Valarie's channel, "Drawing with Fire" is really good too.

I was thinking of maybe combining the wood burning with a colored stain

That would be really pretty! 🥰

Colored stain is dye based and fades pretty quickly.

@@DrawingWithFire you seal it with a polyurethane

@@KMF3 I don't seal with polyurethane as it is oil based and darkens the wood. I use liquitex varnish (gloss) or polycrylic, which are both water based and don't darken the wood as much.

@@KMF3 also neither polyurethane or polycrylic are uv protective... and those that are listed as indoor/outdoor can yellow.

I don't see why not. That would be really cool🥰 Maybe try a little bit on the bottom to see of it works first. I wish I could see it when you are finished.

If I may ask where did you find your wood burner set and may I ask how much did you pay. I had one wood burning tool years ago and it only had one standard tip.
I’m interested in how your project turns out.
    Thank you very much!

Hi Chris, I got mine from my son for my birthday. He bought it at Walmart. It's a great wood burner for beginners. I think it was around $20. I hope you can find one🤗

I bought this wood-burning tool from Walmart and unfortunately I broke it not too long after I got it because I stripped the threads inside the tool

I actually think learning from people's mistakes is much more valuable than watching an expert do something
