I use my bezel almost daily. Elapsed time walking the dog, when I'm grilling it helps me to remember to flip the meat every five minutes as well as the overall cooking time, and I set the index to an upcoming appointment time (I use the hour hand in that case). You could even use it as a reminder to do something by purposely setting it off the 12 o'clock position - when your OCD kicks in and you go to fix it, you remember that you did it for a reason.
Alright, that reminder part is pretty cool idea. But for measuring time.... Why don't you just... Look at the minute hand? I get that some people don't like math but adding up numbers between 0-60 shouldn't really be that hard
Get an apple watch my man. I left my apple watch for a mechanical watch just so I wouldn’t be able to time everything as it became too much for. (Also for the great looks of a mechanical watch)
Good to mention that the bezel only rotates in one direction so that if it gets bumped and moved slightly after initial setting for a dive, it can’t move in a direction that makes you think you have more bottom time left than you really do which is a major safety feature for us divers.
@@svint3684 Yes, one direction. So it can't move in the direction indicating that you have more air. If it gets bumped, it indicates that you have less time, therefore more air time. It's a safety feature.
I think it must be made clear that the bezel on a diving watch was never intended to measure how long your dive is or your "bottom time" or anything like that. Dive time depends on how much breathable air is in the tank and that is measured using a pressure gauge. People breathe differently so some people drain a tank faster than others. The rotating bezel on a dive watch is intended to measure the elapsed time when making decompression stops during an ascent. When diving deep you are meant to pause at various intervals during the return to the surface for fixed amounts of time in order to prevent complications with expanding nitrogen in the blood. The bezel is meant to help ensure that each pause is long enough (it can be a little annoying to wait when you're done the dive and tempted to get out of the water asap and have a beer on the boat)
I can scarcely swim, much less dive, but I get the allure of rotating timing bezels. The only watch I possess with a "proper" timing bezel, however, is a vintage Seiko 6139 chronograph. But, two of my other watches, both also Seikos (a 017 Alpinist, and, very recently, a 5 Sports GMT) can also be used this way, simply by placing the bezel's reference-point forward of the minute hand to your desired time. This actually comes in handy when I'm doing the Iron Chef thing and timing several things at once, and Google is already busy with at least one of them. (Since the 6139 also possesses a chronograph functions, it can handle two timed events at once.)
I generally use it as a count down timer - I’ll adjust it to the current minute hand and use the blip on the the bezel to move it the elapsed time need like say 5 mins- 10 mins. And I really do this when I’m cooking with out a chronograph and it’s with pasta too😂
I use Citizen diver for baking and bbl, especially when time is more than 1h. Because l can see and monitor timing after 1h, this is the advantage over chronometer.
Even though I love my Apple Watch, I do miss my analog watch. It had a tachometer bezel. You set the bezel to the minute hand, and look at the watch when you see the next mile marker. The minute hand points to the MPH markings on the bezel show you how fast you’re moving
Damn I've been using it wrong 😂😂😂😂 I put the Zero marker on the minute hand like a timer... for my lunch breaks so if it's 13:17 and I have 30min then I'll put the zero marker across the 17 which would be like 43
I bought my dive watch for the purpose of timing meat while grilling. When you're drinking ice cold beer on a hot day your mind seems to forget what exact time you started.....sometimes!
"rare people which are still diving" LOL, I must be one of those rare people! Or did you mean (and hurried it due to these silly 60 sec requirements), "One of those rare people who are diving but are still using a dive watch instead of a dive computer". LOL I must still be one of those rare people! Although in defence of those "rare people" better not to trust one's life with only one time keeping device IMHDE.
THATS WHY BEZEL WAS NAMED BEZEL- CUZ A BEZEL IS A CLOCK WATCH AND BEZEL IS A CLOCK I NEVER KNEW😭 (Found this vid from searching Bezel expecting only the chikin nuggit Bezel)
I use the bezel like a stopwatch. Say you start timing something from 1:05pm until 1:20pm, the minute hand would have moved to 15 minutes on the bezel. Now if i get interrupted with a phone call or knock on the door, i move the 15 on the bezel to the 12 o'clock position to remember my stopped time. Then after my interruption i put the 15 on the bezel at 12 o'clock back on the minute hand. Let's say it's now 1:27pm and the timer continues.
Wtf? Since when did scuba diving become a thing of the past? Diving with a watch- sure, now most people dive with a computer. But diving overall? What the hell?
Using your mind and being at one with your self is everything. Technology has made this new generation dumb where the cashier can't even calculate your change ! 😂,

@@raczgabor659 duh. So you don’t forget what minute you started counting from, and so you can read the timer at a glance.

The most useful feature on my G shock is the countdown timer, be it on a mechanical or digital watch, this feature is incredibly useful
Brilliant
Simple but effective
I used this method during my SAT exam. It worked perfectly 🙌
Well used, i bet it works great in an exam scenario
I use mine every day to mark when I left work for my lunch break, so I can quickly check how much lunch breakni have left.
Same here!
Me too!
Me too
I use it when I am in the pub
Guys you have phones. Get real

Thanks for explaining that Teddy.
I have often wondered what those strange numbers around the bezel were for 😊

it is actually more useful that you've thought if you're not really particular on the elapsed time up til the seconds
Even the production quality on your shorts is so gooood!! 😮❤
I timed my lunch break today with my Seiko ;)
And I call my Omega Seamaster (Which I dive with) the grill master because it’s great for timing meat on the grill.😊
Damn right, works great for that medium steak.
Don’t forget to set the alarm on your phone to remind you to look at the time set on your lovely watch 😉
I still dive, but I'm too cool to measure my dives with a bezel. I prefer an hourglass.
What's the depth rating of an hourglass?
Forget cool, that's ice cold baby 😎

I use mine to time my steaks and burgers on the grill. I then got a fancy chronograph and I miss my dive bezel - much simpler and easier to read!
Exactly, i thought chronograph would be best, but that simple swerving to set a timer man, it cant be beat
thank you. finally, an explanation on how this bezel works
Its much easier than pulling out your phone, resist the urge to open apps, go to the clock app, and set the timer.
That Marathon GSAR is beautiful, now only if I can find one for $20 😂 hopefully one day I can buy one.
Yeah use mine when cooking out on the bbq actually come in handy for knowing when to flip stakes
So simple but i never knew until now. Thanks

I do the same thing. In reality no different, but somehow feels right 😂
Just for putting it out there; I use a mechanical, USSR-made stop watch for cooking; including pasta (And I'm not russian).
I use Citizen diver for baking and bbl, especially when time is more than 1h. Because l can see and monitor timing after 1h, this is the advantage over chronometer.
When I go hiking I use it to mark minutes or hours til sundown.
As soon as y’all get a baby you’re really gonna appreciate a diving bezel!! 👶
That is to remember when your baby got the last bottle 🍼👨🍼
Lol I thought I was stupid for using it like this because I'm not a diver and never watched any videos on how to use it till now
Even though I love my Apple Watch, I do miss my analog watch. It had a tachometer bezel. You set the bezel to the minute hand, and look at the watch when you see the next mile marker. The minute hand points to the MPH markings on the bezel show you how fast you’re moving
I use it a lot. It really simple, you dont need stopwatch with fraction of decimal for everyday use. Love it
As a surf coach, I actually need the functionality of my dive watch and it’s bezel to track lesson times in the water! Very useful for me.
Since I've stopped going scuba diving, my bezel is now used for timing when the take away is ready 😂
No confusing or endless mode scrolling. Simple and direct. Ez figure out, if u just stop, look, twist and wait. Technology.
I need someone to explain why some watches have bezels that don't rotate.
Damn I've been using it wrong 😂😂😂😂 I put the Zero marker on the minute hand like a timer... for my lunch breaks so if it's 13:17 and I have 30min then I'll put the zero marker across the 17 which would be like 43
it's still works this way 😂
I've forever been confused with why the ratchet mechanism is for _counter-clockwise_ motion. _IT'S ALWAYS SO MUCH TURNING_ hahaha
Old school methods always work.
I never knew it have a function, I only use it for fidgeting 😂
All right I have a question If I was doing a long cook say like an 8-hour cook couldn't I use the bezel to point to the hour hand instead?
I bought my dive watch for the purpose of timing meat while grilling. When you're drinking ice cold beer on a hot day your mind seems to forget what exact time you started.....sometimes!
Personally, I'd set the zero marker the 10 minutes etc from the minute hand.
Reason being, most bezels only have this marker lumed.
That's how my count down bezel works.
Thanks! I feel a little dumb not realizing how to use a watch bezel earlier. Tx for spelling it out for me. No more soggy pasta in my future! 😁
The beauty is in the simplicity
I set mine to the hour hand more. Each five minute mark becomes an hour of elapsed time.
Now i know the purpose of this bezel my watch
I actually use mine for minor projects, makes me feel badass😂

Ohhhh! That's smart
I hate using my phone as kitchen timer. I always use my watch.
I use mine daily for hiking, laundry, and cooking.
“One of those rare ppl that are still diving” 😂
Oh.. wow.. so there actually a practical use for it.. thought its just to read minutes more clearly.. 😅
This actually needs to be explained to people?

can someone post an instruction video on how to butter bread...thanks
What you just said.....🤔 Rare people do scuba diving.....😮... We still do Exist not Extinct
It’s definitely sexier than digital

Dude its not rare.....it's gotten much safer and more popular 😂😂😂
One of those rare people still diving ? Wtf are you talking about, scuba diving has never been more popular
Realtalk: I DON‘T use the bezel’s. I don’t know why.
"One of those rare people who are still diving" ?? More people are diving than ever, its an incredibly fast growing sport
you're wrong, using that bezel as a timing device, is sexy as fuk!
Great for setting timers but kinda annoying when your doing a test and you're watch is clicking loudly😂
Smartphone?
“If you’re one of those people that’s still diving”
A lot more people are diving today than in the past!!
i can count up or count down
One of those rare people that are still diving using dive tables* We all still dive dude we just have dive computers that do the math for us…
I mean can you not subtract the old time from new time ? This feature is useless for any half intelligent man.
"...one of the _rare_ People that are still Diving" ...Diving is nor rare at all, haha.
And i don’t think divers got less over the last years, haha.
Back then people bought divewatches without diving as they do today.
I think he means rare people who are still diving with a mechanical watch and bezel as their timer.
Hello brother, I have a watch, how much is it worth? It is made of titanium
More convenient for me ❤ parking time, cooking time even client work per hour.
But a proper bezel should only turn to the left or counter clockwise.
great for pomodoro-style time-keeping, no buzzing or ringing alarms, just a simple way to keep on track without developing Pavlovian triggers
Over too quickly to be able to grab a pen from someone .
When i hear bezel: a d o g w i t h l o n g e a r s b i g e y e s d e m i g o d o f c h a o s
Finally i understand. Couldn’t wrap my brain around the use of those things. I happy now good work teddy 🔥

Thanks for this video bro. I was overthinking how a bezel works and now it’s very simple and clear
And i thought I'm the only one doing this!😂
Easier to read timing bezel vs chronograph
Ima use it to time my classes so I know when they end
Modern no, high tech no, state of the art no, simple and sexy as fuck yes
Teddy is being sneaky with that if people are still into diving😹 (bc of the ocean gate incident)
Timing my pizzas in the oven!
I use it for pasta too 😂
I used this when I was school monitor. Because we needed to switch bell manually.
biggest advantage: easy to see in difficult lighting conditions
Good also for tests that allow analog timepieces like the LSAT
I use this for drinking
I do that way for cooking 😂
I use it for diving and timing my rice 20 minutes
Wow. I never knew. Now I will use it much more often. Thank you sir.
OMG. Thank you.
I time my parking

Do you dive?
