I might be wrong about this, but I think at least three of them were classically trained on their instruments with many years of experience behind them. Saw them live back in 1972 and it was the best rock show I ever attended. A class act!

Blackmore in a GP interview said he had a year of classical training but I guess stopped to get his own identity.

I can think of 5 albums earlier than this that contributed to metal. Sabbath first albums was a year earlier and theres more before that. They certainly contributed but this was no where near the start

Blackmore was one of the most knowledgeable and proficient musicians of mediaeval song at this time. I can barely imagine his knowledge and ability of music and he was one of the best rockers of all time. I am to lazy to talk about them all lol they were a serious superband ❤

Amazingly intense for 1970. Must have influenced Iron Maiden? And Blackmore's mannerisms influenced Malmsteen. Such raw, interesting music and presence. Ritchie's antics are theatrical and silly but that's part of the fun, it's half-serious, half rock n roll, and you can see he really was passionate about the music and live show.

I don't know how the audience members are just sitting there, almost with disinterest. WTF They are witnessing one of the best live performances ever. I mean these guys are playing and singing really good (intentional understatement), and they are like falling asleep. Odd.

In the old days in TV studios they were engaged emotionally and totally digging the music they could not jump around like gen z on energy drinks and Molly they literally absorbed the music and respect it. Dancing had its place but rock and roll was a powerful tonic for the mind. These days music rarely has that touch and is about bopping your head and dancing. Yes dancing was big then but was specific in many ways especially in a TV set

An drinking band non of them took drugs before hughes and bolin joined, here the mk2 shows his very best in an 30 minute show, absolute heavy rockin the granada studio there... they were already known and building up reputation.... lord is still sitting infront of his organ, he later used to stand behind it, vs an special seat always in his back... the pedals were gone, just an normal volume expression pedal and 2 marshall horn capinets, the leslie was gone behind an wall of marshalls... but still in use.... blackmores last performances vs his e 335 before he changed 1971 to 2 more stratocasters.... and an booster for more dynamic playing... all 5 were ahead of their time, musicial and physical.... the best example was Stockholm 1970... were they put out an nearly 2 hour show... with extralong Improvisations... mk 2 were the best of their time and unbeatble.
