    I love Jon Lord, and I can't think of a better alternative than Don Airey. I love the solos Don puts together and how he weaves various classical and popular pieces in them so seamlessly....genius.

      The logical choice to replace Jon was Tony Carey, by far the better musician when compared with Don Airey.

    • @ASoundofThunderBand
      @ASoundofThunderBand Місяць тому +1

      @@lilylaw1517 Tony himself will tell you he doesn't do that much prog rock any more and has some arthritis that interferes with his fast lead playing. But more importantly TC is not a sideman or just a keyboard player. He's been a lead vocalist and captain of his own ship since the early '80s. I don't think he'd want this job.

    • @lilylaw1517
      @lilylaw1517 Місяць тому +1

      @@ASoundofThunderBand I'm not taklking of the situation now but at the time of Jon's retirement. I'm fully aware of Tony's solo career having seen him live many times and when he works with Peter Maffay.

    • @ASoundofThunderBand
      @ASoundofThunderBand Місяць тому

      @@lilylaw1517 Fair enough. TC was probably physically more up to shredding some lead organ solos back then, but on the other hand wasn't that around the time he had cancer? Anyway, TC is certainly a much better songwriter than Don, but I still don't see him actually wanting this job. Too much of a time commitment for a project where he would be creatively stifled.

    At the Plymouth Pavillions, they had no barriers and Gillan told the security guys to let us come right up to the stage as soon as Jon popped up behind the Hammond. It was the last leg of the tour, I was able to shake hands with Jon at the edge of the stage and when I left for a last drink at the bar, Don Airey was sitting there and we had a quick chat. It was a very memorable evening!

    In 2010 Deep Purple came to Armenia to give a concert for the first time. It was very special event because they're very famous in Armenia and there are thousands of fans who wished to see the them. During 2 weeks before the concert organizers told that there will be something special in the show. Don't know why, but I imagined that something like this might happen. Although I knew that it was impossible, I thought it would be great that Lord came as a special guest to play a song. RIP Jon Lord.

    Such a brilliant move to have Don Airey play around and have Jon Lord come out of thin air and play what I consider to be one of Jon Lord best contributions to the band. Damn, I wish he (Jon Lord) beats his health problems and do more guest visits like this! The band might be the grand fathers of Hardrock but I'd still prefer a heavy dose of grandpa over any of today's grand children :)

    Beautiful. i have always said aloud, you cannot go wrong with Deep Purple. our most memorable babysitter for us kids in the early 70's would bring his guitar & play Smoke... ya never saw more enthralled & best-behaved-kids as we!

    If they had 1 $ to every young 🎸 player that picked up a guitar and tried to play smoke on the water. You'd raked in another 3m. Legendary beyond any doubt. 💘 em still as always.

    This was Deep Purple's farewell concert to Jon Lord in London, I think. When I thought there was no life for DP after Blackmore's departure, Steve Morse arrived. And now we have Don Airey, who seems fit for the job. With new blood, DP kept on being one of the absolute best bands. Impressive version!!

    Second favorite Purple song. Didn't know this clip existed, didn't read the title. Just loving Don Airey's solo. Fade to black, then JON LORD.
    I almost screamed! The louder I play this, the better it sounds!

    Jon LORD& Don Airey. Тут даже сравнивать нельзя. Они оба великолепные клавишники.

    Jon is the master of the rock organ, while Airey has a more "pianistic" style. Both of they share the love for the classical music, specially Bach for Lord, the classics and early romantics for Airey. They are the past and the future of the rock keyboards...
