I had the pleasure of spending a little time at this station in the spring this year. Amazing station and crew.
The Special Operations Buggy is designated 5-1-5, and Squad 1 appears to be using a spare apparatus (probably former Engine 23).
Those two fire trucks are looking great! :))
@MrFireResponse The squad was an emergency purchase in 2000,eq2b's started in 2002 and they're on everything
lightbar on chief's vehicle is sooo wicked sick! love it!
The squad companies are special units. They respond to fires and special rescues. A Special Operations Battalion is a Battalion Chief assigned to oversee the special ops units.
The "Pumper" is actually a spare squad. If you look closely, there is no pump. They took it off.
Green lights in our State mean command. Though on top of rig not in front.
Those Squads are sweet!!!!!!! and so was the Spec Ops Battalion.
Dang!! Lovin the Battalion Chief Car!!
Yeah, the Engine that covers Mount Greenwood is a Hillbilly Engine. It was bought at some trade show along with the old ALF (E-23) ..
I'v never seen a chief's vehicle with a federal Q, even if it is electric. Awesome!
@Antonioxx81 Chicago has three of those. Plus a Spare(s)
Nice Catch!
I like how u can hear the alarm terminal PA system announcing the call.. Chicago FD has a CAD system dispatch so the voice is automated computerized when the tones go off
Wow didn't know CFD has ALF rigs!
Yea some command units around here use a single green light as well, although it's not really the norm around here not many adopt it it seems. In my county the local fire dept has a single green LED beacon on top of the regular lightbar on both the chief and fire commissioner trucks. Another department has a similar setup on their Rescue which doubles as a command post.
There are three...the old Engine 23 (seen here as the spare Squad), Tower Ladder 5, and Engine 92, the only "sedan" pumper in the City.
The sirens on the ALF sound like the newer UK Electronic Sirens.
It's also common for EMS in NY
@Lassereinhardt1 Green is a normal lightning color of emergency vehicles in the US. Seems to be that just a few departments use green lights, but some use it.
Great catch! 🚒🚨
best part of this entire video, is when buddy waved the Batt chief by
Great Video Dirk.
Awesome Catch !!!!!!
@grnkl115 All front line CFD chiefs cars (commonly referred to as 'buggies') are equipped with the EQ2b sirens. Most front line apparatus have them as well.
@Scousefire Yeah, looks like it, the side just says Squad, no number.
CFDs been using green on the O-Side of the trucks since the 1930s, when a commissioner was also a maritime captain.
1930s squad 4 was around
theGovnr1 There is a green light on the front of both trucks, no blue lights
@bucs5036 Its a support and repair truck
@fireman9576 Person(s) in the water. It's in the description.
SO AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Chicago Fire Department Can Only Afford About 20 Upgrades On Emergency Fire Vehicles Each Year , Belonging to the C.F.D , There For , Their Trucks Number (For Example : Engine 32) Numbers Between 1 And 90 Could Be Left Non-Upgraded For About 7-8 Years In Service For Chicago City , Cititizens , Chicago Emergency Services.
nice video !!
I'm assuming state. We have ''volunteer'' EMS and they run green where I am from. But it is also common to see it on some of the utilities and ambulances.
What siren did they use on the spare squad?
"Special Operations" denotes a wide range of technical rescue units in CFD; collapse rescue, tunnel rescue, dive team, hazmat, etc.
Also POD air bag foam unit mobile ventilation unit
I have never seen a blue light on a CFD aparatus. Are you thinking of FDNY?
Why does the Special Ops BC have an eq2b???
You must be color blind. That's a green light on Squad 1A. Most, but not all, CFD units have a green "starboard" light as a maritime tradition. But you are correct in most areas a green light signifies a command post. In Indiana green is also used on the POVs of EMTs.
what happened to the rescue tender that was part of the squad was it swap for a pump ?
What does this special operations battalion do that's any different from a normal fire unit?
All that said, my metro area *is* one of those that uses a green "kicker" (separate from the main lightbar) to indicate command units. :)
A green light in north America represents a command unit
in Canada a flashing single green light is a voulenter firefighter responding
Yea. Every rig pretty much has the e-q2b besides the squads and most of the spares they use the pa300 and the O'Hare squad has the federal q
They actually use motorola
Sirens
I think the sirens are mis-matched :D
what was the page out for ?
The green light stuff is not normal coloring in the US you are not correct.. it is normal around the chicagoland area that's it.. it has to do with boating and tradition that's why there is a feel history just behind the green light on Chicago fire apparatus..
LOVE IT
What exactly is a Special Operations Battalion please?
No he is right. ALL new fire apparatus must contain at least 1 blue light in rear of vehicle. Chicago's new rigs now have blue LEDs on rear.
No they don’t.
@@fakename8638 go look at the NFPA laws.
@@MoparGuy1625 the NFPA can’t make laws, clown.
All brand new CFD apparatus have blue & red lights on the back the new truck 13 has blue lights
eq2b on chiefs car?
I have seen it in NJ.
hamill23 Yes, eq2b on everything purchased since 2001, everything
awesome
@Wilky575 1A is a snorkel.
Finally now I know! I thought it was just because of Chicago's Irish Heritage!
@Tsimfuckiss We have a few in my area... They are crazy. All that sound in a small vehicle.
why do they put an eq2b on a ford suv? not the squad?
why are the trucks so small?
did they do away with the rescue truck as the squad
I like the second fire truck. Don't know if it's a snorkel or tower ladder.
I like how the battalion has a q
@Crazyfogfighter Interesting! I have never seen another dept. anywhere other than the Chicago area use green.. EMS in Indiana uses green on their POVs also but not on ambulances. I use one myself.
The Green is Department Tradition
wait what are they just saying special ops battalion just because it is there?
A CFD ALF I need details on this
Wow... you are just a few days there and you get it.. even the rare stuff!
How much time did they need to respond? Just 35 seconds??
Really great video! :) Love Chicago! :)
The rare stuff? Squad 1 does like 9 runs a day. Not rare at all.
theGovnr1 the green light is on the left of the light-bar on the second unit to leave the station
There is no national (or international/North American) standard for green, e.g. marking command units. I've seen green/amber on shopping mall security (!), and _heard_ some municipalities use green to indicate hazmat unit, but I couldn't tell you where, offhand. Hell, even blue lights (with and without red) get used differently depending on where you are in the US. You can't make any blanket statements about "North America".
The truck has the Whelen siren. The Federal Signal Q2B would be too loud in Chicago. They're not going to change a thing.
That is one big station
It is district 1 headquarters
Actually 92's an International/ ALF.
and what is that yellow truck I though it was some spare command van 271 or maybe an airport command but of course not
Probably it came to visit the others
@@donnaraheapearson5683 I think that's right I saw a truck similar to it on a video of engine 60 responding
Spare Rescue obviously...
Did I miss Something??? I watched this video several times and did not see any green lights on the trucks only 1 single blue light above passenger side on last truck, is that what they are talking about?. as far as green lights they are usually only used to signify command post vehicles.
Yeah, you missed the green light on both rigs.
Holy hell the Ford has a Electronic Q!
Every Chief's vehicle in Chicago has an EQ2B.
Not true since 2002 every chief vehicle had it, if its older than 2002 it should have a different siren, but they upgraded it to have a eq2b
Code 3 XF 2300 LED lightbar.
what station is this?
District 1 headquarter vehicles their are ambulance 42 engine 42 truck 3 command van 271 ambulance 93 [now paramedic field chief 451] squad 1 and an SUV with no letters and no numbers
The eqs sound cool but not as good as the real ones. Also, I like the green light they have, its different.
a mini snorkel ??
It's an HME HME's are little
I can vouch on the green light. Our trucks don't carry green lights, however if you see a seemingly civilian vehicle with flashing green lights. . . . . let them by, they are volunteer firefighters responding to an emergency.
No.
WOW
No Chicago are keeping the green & red lights just some wagons never had green lights on them & all the new ladders & engines have blue lights on the back
Neither of Chicago’s wagons are in this video though…
A unique feature on the apparatus of the CFD is the green emergency light that is typically found on the right front of the apparatus, in addition to the red light on the left front. This tradition dates back to the 1930s when Fire Commissioner Goodrich, whose family operated Goodrich Transit Company, adopted the port and starboard maritime light scheme for all apparatus and firehouses. PLEASE LIKE SO PEOPLE DONT KEEP ASKING ABOUT THE GREEN LIGHT AND MAKING UP BULLSHIT ABOUT IT.
The ALF Resembles a Toronto ALF
Why are the engine and truck labeled as squads
The Engine is a spare squad. Even though it is an engine, it has the Squads tools on it.. The Squad actually looks like a small box truck....well more like a smaller rescue.
Cause this is the old engine 23 but they put it in as a spare squad and engine 23 got a new rig
And the truck is a snorkel squad as a squad assistant
There isn’t a truck in this video though?
Or Freightliner.
Full history* sorry!
federal signal EQ2B
1500 n Sandberg terrace aka 1500 N clark
the state or the city?
Chicago Illinois downtown Southside
@@firechaser2010 downtown or southside? Can’t be both 🤡
@hamill23
That was a Spare. Squad
Not anymore they got rid of the old squad 1 this is the replacement for it
Oh
Maleek Bradshaw yep
What happened to the other onr
They sold it and unfortunately they're getting rid of this one and putting it back into being a spare rig.
j
Hey Mayor Rahmbo, there's one thing you can do to cut the budget. Get rid of the stupid chase trucks for the Squads, USELESS ! And if you're gonna have a Snorkel, buy a REAL one that will actually reach something .
