I've had high consumption on my mini too same engine, turbo has been replaced a year ago dpf "cleaned" so the garage said, almost a year to the day the DPF blocked up again and the high oil consumption never really went away, so I changed the pcv but didn't seem to be a noticeable change in consumption, I want to try force a regen to clear the dpf code and replace turbo actuator dpf gasket then potentially re attempt the pcv.. this is common across nearly every BMW engine for the pcv to fail fortunately as you know the non serviceable part is very easily serviceable I've done many of these now. Great video mate thank you gives me hope for mine, if your curious check it out on my channel, but thanks again buddy 🙏👍
@@GreaseMonkeysGarage oh that's an awesome improvement, mine has always used oil and to be fair I am fine with fortnightly or monthly top ups, mine was getting daily top ups 🤣
Hi mate, I’ve got a f10 520d. Oil residue on intercooler pipe and going through 1L of oil every 500miles. No other oil leak or smokes, could it be the PCV valve?
I have the N47 1.6 engine in my mini and not noticed any drop in engine oil but have noticed oil residue round the rocker cover. can this just be the gaskets on there way out? its a 2012 london edition
Hello, very interesting. I've an n47 118d that suddenly started getting through 1l/1000 miles. No smoke at all and no suction at the oil cap. In your case im surprised the valve has "failed" thou if the rubber isn't split and the spring is still ok? Have you found oil consumption continued to remain reduced after you changed the valve? Cheers 👍
Did this cure the problem? I have a 118d n47 with high oil consumption, have changed the rocker cover with no change in oil consumption, turbo is healthy, mileage 121k…. Any other areas recommend to look at?
This cured my problems, have you got any smoke out of the exhaust if so what colour? Do you have much oil in the intercooler pipework? Is the pcv pipe off the rocker cover split?
@@GreaseMonkeysGarage thanks for quick response, no smoke out of exhaust, intercooler pipe has some oil in there but it’s not soaking, pcv pipe as been replaced to. Using about 1litre every 1000 - 1500 miles. Although the rocker cover was replaced for a genuine BMW part, I’ll order a pcv cover and give it a try.
@@GreaseMonkeysGarage Perfect, thanks. I have a 116d that's burning oil at about 1litre per 1000miles, really frustrating. Is also making the DPF do excessive regens, as you mentioned hoping it isn't a new turbo job.
@@iSamzi I replaced the turbo on mine, it started excessively smoking. The oil consumption has reduced (still 1 litre every 2000miles though), but it's a high mile car I got from a trade auction so I can live with it.

BMW wanted 900 to change the rocker cover surely you’re not gonna be happy with that?
Nice one mate becoming a bit of a master tech 🎉
Ha don’t know about that one 😂😂😂👍

Hi, great video. Which pcv valve would fit a f22 218d?

@@GreaseMonkeysGarage nothing at all mate. Will give it a shot and see how it goes. Thanks!

Yes oil consumption back to normal it was covered in crap just cleaning it corrected the problem.
