    Thank you for the video! I called the TechSupport desk to address a couple of questions but your video did an even better job of explaining what I wanted to know.

    Think twice about downloading the latest firmware for that camera!
    It appears that the version you bought (brown box, chinese characters on the installation CD) is the Chinese or International Version. Amazon and other online retailers are full of these cameras - they work great but if you update the camera firmware it will, at best, revert back to default settings - in Chinese - or at worse, brick the camera.
    HikVision makes great cameras for the money however make sure you have a North American version if that's where you're located. They come packaged in the red and white HikVision packaging and box.

      +Michael Strecker Agreed 100%. Technically, the camera can be updated to think it's a NA camera and then the firmware upgrade can occur, but the risk of bricking the camera throughout that process is very high.

    I wanted to know how you attached them to the soffit. Did you use toggle bolts or did you install something into the soffit to hold the camera (round electrical box)?
    Additionally, just on comment on the IR led's and why they're partially covered. They likely produce reflections inside the dome if not covered.
    I know this because I have (universal) domes that have Escams (indoor pan/tilt) cams installed inside them to make them weather proof and to see anything at night the LED's have to be turned OFF.
    When on, the reflections inside the dome completely obscures the image and you see just a white screen. With these domes I had to install external IR lamp assemblies for night vision.

    will you be making a video explaining the connectivity of the mic and alarm cables(green end)? Most Hikvision are sold with this now and before running cables through my walls, need to know to do it once. Thanks

    did you happen to put any wood under the eaves drop? or is it screwed right into the paneling?

    • @HomeTechDIY
      @HomeTechDIY  7 років тому +2

      Is there case I did not use any wood under the soffit. The screws are directly in the soft metal only. It's surprising very secure and there have been no issues after several years. There might be a little vibration if the wind nears 65mph.

      @@HomeTechDIY I literally did a google search to find an answer to this question. I'm doing a big camera install this week, and I have aluminum soffit. The plan was to screw directly into the aluminum soffit without any kind of backer, but I was worried it wouldn't be strong enough. So thanks a bunch for the piece of mind! Any particular type of screw recommendation?

    Is your Soffit aluminum?
    I am setting up my first security system, and I have aluminum soffits

      Did you use any special anchor or just the stock anchors that came with the camera?

    • @HomeTechDIY
      @HomeTechDIY  4 роки тому +1

      When attaching these lighter weight dome cameras to the soffit I didn't use any anchors. I used the included screws and worked my way into the soffit until it takes hold. There is little to no camera movement or shake even when the wind is blowing 60mph.

      Thanks for the feedback. Correct, the drilling of the hole in the soft metal was already done. The CAT6 cables run to my POE switch or NVR. Check out my other videos on installing cameras and let me know if you have additional questions!!

    If I decide to get this I'm going to make sure I get with you on which model number to get to avoid the wrong international version. Also, is there a good PTZ version of this model without going crazy on the price? Not really needing 360 degrees. 120 would be great. They make so many models it's so hard to keep them all straight. Thanks, Jim

      +Jim Bob You're correct in that there are a lot of version of these cameras... in fact I have fallen behind on what's now available, so I'm not sure if I'd be able to help on the PTZ versions. But, yes, make sure you have the correct international version.

    What kind or size of drill bit did you use to make that size hole to fit the wires and plugs through?

    Do you have video about remote viewing of camera over the internet (on your work PC, or smart phone)?

    Tip.. Get a tablet and download teamviewer. Set your tablet to watch a presentation of your camera monitor and you will have real time camera adjusting abilities without all the walking. HF!

    Greetings newfiebort, I didn't see a response to the previous question in regards to mounting; however, how exactly did you attach the cameras to the soffit? Any assistance is greatly appreciated, thank you.

    • @HomeTechDIY
      @HomeTechDIY  6 років тому +1

      My soffit is pretty secure and I was able to attach the cameras directly to it. I used my own screws and the camera has now been attached for 4 years without issues. When the wind blows over 60mph, there is a little vibration, but I'm ok with that.

    Does your can light on the corner mess with the vision of the cameras at night when they are on?

    • @HomeTechDIY
      @HomeTechDIY  7 років тому

      Yes. This year I installed longer floodlights in the pot light fixtures and one of them shines directly on the dome causing some glare. To solve this issue, I loosened the socket in the fixture and pushed it in so the camera is now shaded from the direct beam.

    There are warnings about fake Hikvision cameras can I ask where you got yours and if you had any issues with not getting the real Hikvision cameras? Also the model numbers you are using around your house

    The plastic piece is not for cosmetics. It's a heat shield that protects the board from the sun.
