We have a whole video about video production with the W6800 coming. We didn't want this video to drag on for too long.
As someone that doesn’t game, I’m more interested in how this works for content creation, video editing and photography. I picked up a Radeon VII and was really surprised how well it performed vs the 5700XT at video editing. I only saw game videos on the VII and for the price at the time, didn’t realize how much better the performance was. I was really considering a WS card but saw it on sale for $500 and once I got it and saw the improvements, I wanted another but sadly they were sold out. After that whenever the came back, they were selling for like $1500, right before they released the WS version. Looking forward to your video editing review on it, hopefully you will have some other WS cards to compare. Macs have always gotten these cards with more memory but content creation on PC also benefits from the extra memory. Want to see more of these, reasonably priced card for content creation.
Request; viewport fps in the various 3d software, and vram utilization of the scenes tested.
Did this video ever get published? I can't seem to find it.
@@octaneping didn't happen, I just checked... we are just a minority of people who are interested in such topics.. so it got overlooked I guess.
This video should be made! Otherwise I might need to pull a Thanos and do it myself

It's absolutely fab to see AMD contacting you to review pro-workstation products 💯 Hoping to see more of this in the future, particularly as a Linux user, as I think these products will increase in relevance on Linux 🐧
I'm interested in putting this card into a mini itx linux build for content creation
More workstations benchmarks and hardware reviews please! Hard to find many reliable digestible reviews for these types of cards and hardware, I recently upgraded my workstation to a Quadro RTX4000 from a GTX980 for mostly CAD workloads involving modeling and rendering spatial data from 3D point clouds and registering 3D point cloud data (processing billions of 3D points) using programs such as Leica Cyclone and Bentley Microstation, would be interesting to see some more CAD focused benchmarks but im not sure what benchmarks are available for that sort of workload. Boss has asked me to spec up several more new workstations would be good to find the sweet spot and see some comparisons between these and the Quadro lineups.
We've got 2 more videos with this coming soon.
Thank you for adding Linux content, as the other popular channels are sorely lacking there. As a Linux engineer, it's awesome seeing more prod related Linux content.
"If you hated the video hit the dislike button twice"
Lmao! that's a good one.
Fantastic video fams. Top quality benchmarks as always.
Just found your channel exactly what I needed thanks
Can't wait to start editing on this card!
I personally love this kind of content! I don't really have any use for the information, but I find it incredibly intriguing.
The Mac Pro 2019 has recently upgraded with new GPU options: Radeon Pro W6800X, W6800X Duo and W6900X.
Awesome video fams. I am surprised how well the workstation card performs in gaming
Loved the video. Built my first PC this last summer, primarily for autoCAD. Bought the Sliger S620 w/ acrylic side panel and was going to buy the W5500, I got a 3060 instead. But I do want to build a new PC W/ a blue/white theme using the new W6600.
Loved the video, I would never buy one for myself just like I wouldn’t buy a threadripper but im interested in staying aware of these kinds of things. 👍
Yes, more workstation cards. I've been waiting on new AMD pro cards, I didn't know this was out.
I didn't know that AMD made workstation graphics cards. Good to know and thank you for the video. For the past week I've been in a meteorological workshop for numerical weather prediction modeling put on by UCAR, IBM, Nvidia, DOE and a couple of other organizations. One of the areas being worked is running a numerical weather prediction model on GPUs, so a card with 32GB of ram is very helpful.
Thank you!
Good to see that it isn't overheating, considering the TDP and blower cooler.
One more questions: AMD was advertising a viewport acceleration feature, does that work in Premiere or Resolve as well?
Don't forget full size workstations have well designed airflow from multiple large fans in a heavy chassis that dampens much of the noise, making for a quieter experience than expected in an office environment.
Nice work. Thanks for the review. I'm definitely interested in seeing more workstation product reviews especially under Linux. I'm curious as to how well this card would work in a video production environment using DaVinci Resolve under Linux. It would be great if you could do something along those lines. Keep up the good work.
I have another video about video production workloads. I just didn't want this video to drag on for too long.
@@GearSeekers looking forward to it already :)
I agree. I am actually interested how it can really "shine"
I saw a bunch of reviews of workstation cards, but they were just comparing renders and stuff.
It'd be particular interesting if you compare that workstation card to the "regular" gaming cards on (like Glasson said) workloads which require a lot of Video Memory.
...Maybe I just want to see a 3090 suffer and feel bad :P
@@GearSeekers Hey Nick, it's been a while since you released this video. Did you get anywhere with the video production workloads video?
That pro GPU is probably cheaper than its gaming counterpart. And it's probably in stock too.
A lot of these pro level GPUs are being used for research in Deep Learning, AI and in meteorological applications. As such, Nvidia has been supplying Titan cards for such research, but I haven't of any AMD pro level gpus being used.
Yeah, we use the AMD for CAD work, eg Solidworks. Cheap, does the trick nicely. Also they’re pretty heavily used in Mac ecosystem. They’re definitely not favoured in ML applications
I hope you are joking, it costs 2800 us$ on B&H
@@jaimeduncan6167 Two months ago, many GPUs were that expensive.
Yep, I use it for gaming! :D
Pro cards are pretty cheap on ebay and they give good enough FPS.
That is a very interesting gpu! i'll hope i can get one, and just for the looks, is there any way to watercool it??
I would love to see you do some benchmarks in Adobe after effects and premiere pro and compare it to other high end gpus , loved the video nick! And I also love how that gpu looks😍
I'm going to make a video, putting this up against a 4090. Which, at one point, was cheaper then this cards MSRP. What CPU do you want to see paired with the W6800?
RTX 4090 Suprim Liquid X vs Radeon Pro W6800
Coming soon!
im assuming you had control over fan curves and possible undervolting?
Love the music as always but I thought someone was knocking my door every now and then 🤣🤣
😅
I want to know if the fan will make a loud noise when fully loaded?
14:38 hm ... I feel like u are bringing in the donut king ^^
I love to watch your all videos... ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Would this work well for surveillance? 2 4k panels, with 30 streams.
When it was announced I was quite interested in this card. Not because I was ever going to use it but I was interested what AMD got to regarding workstation solutions. It seems to me that AMD is really proving to everyone that while they are not at the top yet, they are not that far behind either.
its a big disapiontment I got it is VERY bad
Where is the back plate imagem?
Ngl, I should’ve brought this over the 6900 xt. Doesn’t look too bad on gaming while giving good productivity results. At the least, it would’ve justified me buying a gpu over 2000 bucks.
Interested to see how this runs in Big Sur 11.4
YES TEST MORE WORKSTATION STUFF and please can you compare these to regulat gpus in terms of softwares perofmance, like to see if its worth getting this over a 3090 for example in terms of rendering and all that
I don't think I need or can afford this particular one, but I would love to see your review on it's jr sister, the W6600. I believe its memory, performance, and price is substantially less. But, it should just take a bit more time to do the same thing. I would also like to know when the W6600 and the Asus x570s creator motherboard will hit the shelves...
I just bought 3 of these today for my monster tower. I bought 3 because I have 18 32" 4K monitors! Can't wait to try it out.
What
@@sabr8457 Really pleased with them so far. 3rd generation of 18 monitors for me, but first time I had all the same card running them.
God I wish I could get this, but there's no AMD Radeon support in Keyshot!
I think for people who are new to PCs, it would be excellent to see a comparison of specs and features with the same company’s high end and low end regular cards to help understand these cards.
I love the style of this. Make more GPU look like this :)
Where can I buy one ? And when can i buy one?
Where can we buy this at?
AMD are beasts for this card. I recently got my hands on an HP Z620 and this card would go really well with that. Workstation vibes.
I wonder how many 4k transcode streams it can handle at once.
nice video. I see you included the Radeon VII in the BMW benchmark but then it dissapears from the other benchmarks. I would have loved to see more vs Radeon VII. The Radeon VII has double the memory bandwith (1TB/s) so I am curious in which applications that could make a difference. if you make other videos, please include Radeon VII if possible.
We tested it 2 years ago. We don't have the card anymore.
@@GearSeekers oh thanks for the reply. I have a few older cards too including the Radeon VII imgur.com/a/zHpJ7af so I was curious
thanks
I'm curious how the fan noise is on these, compared to the consumer GPUs. I don't even do any pro stuff, yet I still kind of want one for some reason, just because of the design.
Fan noise on workstation cards is not a factor
For workstation use, I wonder how this works with SketchUp, Lumion and Revit.. in comparison to the 6800xt?
Fewer paremter to 3d image generation errors. Fewer save file loading errors. More vram. Less good for real-time performance though
Also thermal performance is probably inferior
I wish you would do a game test using amd 3950x 0r a 5950x If you match hardware I promise you will se increases in stability and performance. It's like fixing a honda using gm parts. I really don't understand why computer guys on UA-cam don't match hardware? Love the channel! I do graphic design for 18 wheelers and yachts for printed wraps designs. I am a serious gamer to boot! I build all my own work stations and computers for other cad people for almost 2 decades now.
Where did you buy it?
I didn't buy it
Can this card be MGPU? Crossfire?
Wait, but how did the ray tracing look in shadow of the tomb raider?
Hi there, I've read that a good CPU combo for this card is the R9 5950X, yet when a co-worker is using this machine with a heavy load, the performance is sub-par. Potentially the GPU is a bottleneck for the CPU performance.
My question is, I've seen some charts that a better CPU combo for this card would be the R5 5600X outperforming the R9. How can this be? Are the 16 cores not supporting the GPU? How can 6 cores perform better with this card for motion graphics and simulations in blender? Thanks
👍👍👍👍👍
It's a passthrough gpu, main area is for running multiple vm's with passthrough on it.
You have this confused with the instinct GPUs
So , essentiallty , this is just a 6800XT with double the Vram but with a lower power limit ...
Its kinda neat that it is less than half the price than the cheapest 32gb Nvidia Quadro/Workstation class card in my country
Im interested in AI and with a consumer level 16gb GPU, llama-2 7B fits neatly as it consumes ~13.5Gb
but for 13B , I was dissapointed to find out that 24Gb is not enough, as it requieres between 26-27 Gb accoarding to several posts , it will run on a 24Gb but a lot slower than it should...
I wonder if that performance hit is enough to make something like a 4090 slower than a w6800 32gb , which for AI , the AMD would be A LOT slower than the NVIDIA card if VRAM was not an issue...
I wish workstation-class GPU reviesws also included AI benchmarks , because these GPUS are the only ones with high enough VRAM to be useful for AI ...
I am also a gamer , so the gaming benchmarks are welcome , but consumer-grade GPUs max out at 24gb this generation, so a comparison between those and workstation gpus at AI workloads would be greatly appreciated
Wasn't ve good to use some 3d cad program with simulation to review this card?
Not my expertise. I talked about what we're doing with the card later.
@@GearSeekers I should wrote would...
Ok one can buy it via B&H. Now it’s pretty expensive 2499$ for Mac or Pc and the modified version with no fans for the Mac Pro is 300$ extra (no fans). The modified Apple version don’t need the cable either.
I would love to get this card for some workstation workloads but honestly amd dont really make it clear when it will be available for sale and where.
Its out. I have no idea where people can actually buy them
@@GearSeekers I honestly thought that it was released as in revealed but haven't gone on sale yet. Similar to how the RX6000 series was revealed last year but wasn't on sale on the same day. I don't see it listed on amd website under the professional cards either.
What do you mean?

@@GearSeekers I was referring to the launch of the RX6000 series cards and how it appeared on amd site first before it went on sale and how the W6000 cards may be going the same route. It should show up on www.amd.com/en/shop/us/Pro%20Graphics%20%26%20Accelerators first but not all that sure.
I WATCH FULL VIDEO, I'm thinking about buying one and idk if i should tho
Will it work as an eGPU?
Please somebody test this :( The information online is insufficient and it's impossible to get an answer out of manufacturers.
Yes
Any idea why AMD exclusively uses blower cards in their pro series?
Quadros are the same. It's because of the systems they are designed to be used in. Also for rack mounted systems it's far more efficient
This GPU might prove useful for heavily modded games like Cities Skylines or Skyrim 😝
Interested in workstation cards, for multiple high res monitors and AutoCAD, Revit and software that acutally is more CPU render than GPU but uses the GPU mainly for operating system monitor resolutiion.
depends on what type of work in cad you are doing. I do know for my work that the work station cards can "heav" around the 1000s of 3d solid models much easier and quicker than gaming cards. Before I upgraded I could only limit my files to 100 or less and even that was difficult depending on what kind of model I was using.
@@mtstans Its architectural drawings and mainly AutoCAD. Tbh, till now (30 yrs) I've just used the VGA port off the motherboard on a 1280 x 1024 monitor (Wacom PL-710) ... but have bought a Radeon Pro WX 3100 (4 Gb) card to put into my i7-3770 w 16 Gb RAM, m/b graphics ... so it can use higher res monitors (box is from 2012).
Did put an order in last December for a new 5950x, 128 Gb RAM with WX9100 but the supplier couldnt get the parts due to Brexit & Covid silicone shortage etc ... so going to try again probably end of year when it settles down, and fancy this new Radeon Pro W6800 as has 32 Gb and will run 6 high res 5K2K ultrawide as thinking of a Dell U4021QW monitor at 5120 x 2160 ... with a couple of 4k's each side ... one portrait, and a 43" or bigger to have reference drawings open on to the side.

Unfortunately, as of right now, these aren't really compatible with Windows 11 (despite AMD's claim). AMD can't seem to make a working driver for Windows 11 and pulled their faulty 'Enterprise' driver. They won't say if/when one will be available.
