Loved having Patricia on the program... She seems like a wonderful advocate for bringing more people to the "Bridge Party!"
Is 3C like a cue bid here, showing support in diamonds the same way that 1H-(1S)-2S is showing a limit raise with at least minimal support in Hearts? Or at the three level, could it be a sort of western cue bid, asking for a stop in C on the way to NT?
It just seems like, with such a wacky auction, miscommunication is so likely to happen. It was an interesting one to bring onto It's Your Call!
P.S. Ah, Forcing Pass, we meet again...

Yea that's what we both thought 3c could be. A good raise of diamonds rather than a simple raise. It's slightly awkward because both raises are already game forcing. but you have a great point it might be a Western cue (stopper asking cue) for NT. Could be very confusing.
We love our forcing passes. This is another situation where forcing passes are very common: when the opponents are clearly sacrificing over our game contract. This one requires partner to either bid on or double. They will bid on with extra playing value and DBL with extra defensive value. That's why N bid on here they have no defense for clubs.

I think 3C by N is right showing good diamond support and, as NS are already in a game force, some slam interest. Given N has two possible cue bids available, it might also imply a club control. From South’s perspective after the 5C bid, (s)he also has some slam interest but needs N to have several controls for slam to make. The three losers in spades are a worry. Partner probably has A of diamonds, king of hearts, singleton club and some top honours in spades to have bid 3C but is that enough ? If south had a spade honour, then they would have enough to drive to slam with a cue of 5H. If south were weaker, then signing off in 5D or 5S would be fair. As it is, a forcing pass indicating South also has some slam interest but needs to know more does seem best. After this N should have enough encouragement to drive to slam. (S)he could show the spade control with 5S or the club control with 6C. I think the latter strongly implies a void after the previous 3C bid. Probably S will settle for 6D over either. If N had been weaker, say singleton club not void and missing the J of spades maybe then signing off in 5D over the forcing pass would be right - I think S should also pass in this case rather than driving on.

I think Pass is the strongest action by South, which should make the North hand a slam drive. With no discussions, I bid 6C of which partner will infer that Txx of spades is not worth of a grand and he/she will sign off in 6D.

I like to play 2NT overcall here as 6om-4oM and 2S as 5-5+.

After Pass over 5C, N should bid 6C.
