“I feel like I should be running around and screaming and telling someone about this but no one cares” literally me every single night while I read this and my daily Zoyalai breakdown😂😭
omg yess i'm so happy to learn I wasn't the only person screaming and pacing around while reading this book!!! also can we please talk about one of my new fav lines ever "“Then I would gladly be your prince, your consort, your demon fool.” I can now sleep in peace knowing zoyalai is endgame!!!
The squealing I let out when they went to Ketterdam was embarrassing. THE LAST SENTENCE OF THE BOOK. Leigh....what are you doing to us??? And David...good god WHY??? Anyways I just finished and I’m feeling a lot of emotions so I’m watching your video now.
If you explain the Darkling’s life it sounds very weird. Creates a tear in the universe. Gets stranded in the tear in the universe. Survives the tear in the universe. Destroys the tear in the universe. Dies on the tear in the universe. Comes back to life on that tear in the universe. Sacrifices themself to save ✨Ravka✨.
You released this video almost a year before Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Since the start of the invasion I was really invested in learning a lot about the current events and debates, I read a lot of newspaper articles, and I watch daily updates about the conflict. Having all that knowledge made reading the book just feel so real. A lot of the debates that they had in the book were exactly the same things we've talked about in the last year. Almost everything war-related in this book felt real. I'm not sure what I would have thought about this book, had I read it before the invasion. But reading it now, this book just stood out for me simply because it's so seems so realistic. That's why I was slightly disappointed that you completely brushed over this, but I completely understand. You said that you're not incredibly interested in the war scenes in books, and back when you made this video you didn't have the context we have now. I should say that I'm from Europe, so this conflict feels closer to me than it probably feels to you. I would be interested to know what you think about all these war-related things in the book in the nowadays context, i.e. if you read this book again now what would you think about these parts of the book?
I'm not gonna lie, I cried in almost every single chapter of this book. I cries of sadnesses, I cried for Matthias, I cried of happiness and rage. I wish I was joking lmao I'm a mess
Watching this made my day. It felt like reading the book all over again, I cried with you and laughed with you and paced with you too! Thank you for this, my heart feels full
I bookmarked this video to watch after I finished reading RoW, which I did last night. I loved it! I loved the surprise return of so many characters from the other two series. And Leigh is the queen of the slow burn, and I'm here for it. Kaz & Inej, Nina & Matthias, Jesper & Wylan, Zoya & Nikolai, Nina & Hanne. It's so satisfying when, after reading their internal monologues for so many pages, the characters finally admit their feelings for one another.
SPOILERS: I think the only issue that I have is the Darkling's role in this book. When he was resurrected and got his powers back, I thought that he was going to be more involved, but he really didn't do anything; he was just THERE lol. Also, I don't know how I feel about his sacrifice at the end because if the Darkling was the one destined to get rid of the Fold, then what was the point of Alina? Other than that I really enjoyed this book and loved how all of the characters' stories were wrapped up!! Also, we get to read our Crows for the next book!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻
@@FullofLit Yeah, I agree 100% Hopefully, in the next book or so, the Darkling will have a larger role because I don't think Bardugo would resurrect him just to have him killed again, you know. Leigh did tweet a few years ago that she has a big plans for the future of the Grishaverse and all the books we've read so far is a build up to it so I guess we'll see what she means in the third SOC book!!
I honestly loved rule of wolves but I agree that with less storylines it would’ve been much better, in fact I think if the darkling and mayu’s povs were taken out this might be an all time favorite for me, mainly because ZOYALAI who allowed them to be that perfect?! And more importantly who allowed leigh to not show us the royal wedding?! I demand a novella😭
Everything in this was everything I felt reading it. Also yes how dare she about David. But also also, my friend refers to the Zoyalai ship as 'Pretty rich people'. Which like, she's not wrong. I agree that I think there was a lot going on, I think we could have done with a lot of the Shu plot tbh.
What an awesome structure, seeing your reactions and hearing your theories AS you read the book. It made me anticipate your reactions to big scenes, like watching a friend watch a movie you really love and waiting for their reaction. Such a fun video!
Honestly, My reactions were same as yours. Be it the reaction on the *thing* with David that I'll not talk about, be it the entry of Kaz brekker, or making Zoya the queen of Ravaka. I was really happy to see your real emotions. It felt like I've found a companion with whom I can get mad over the Grishaverse.
I just finished reading Rule of Wolves today and wooow, it's definitely Rule of Wolves > King of Scars for me (4.5 vs 4 star ratings). After watching your review, I definitely agree that there was a lot going on (pov and story wise) but it definitely kept me at the edge of my seat after each pov bec Leigh Bardugo literally switches POVs right where the good stuff are about to happen! Overall, I'm very thankful to Leigh for giving us the King of Scars duology. I did not expect to enjoy the duology as much as I did, which shows how much Leigh's writing has improved by giving us such complex characters. I initially never understood the Zoya hype but gosh, I fell in love with her through ZoyaLai (which was super unexpected). Also, I know that long books (500+ pages) are not everyone's cup of tea, but I definitely wished that Leigh allowed herself to write a total of 700 or even 800 pages for Rule of Wolves to allow her to expand more on certain parts of the book (spoilers below): . . . . . . . . . . . . . . The Crows part was definitely super rushed, even the Mal and Alina moment. As a reader that prefers character interactions/development > plot, and as much as I love the Darkling as a villain, I feel like Leigh could've left Aleksander dead back when Alina killed him in Ruin and Rising (Shadow & Bone #3). We could've seen more of the Crows and/or Malina if we took out the Darkling's/Monk's POV. I get that he is a famous character from Shadow & Bone but I was honestly hoping that Leigh was going to introduce a *new* morally grey + complex villain character for the King of Scars Duology. I also did not expect to love Hanne for Nina after Matthias' death. The part where Zoya brought Nina back to the Leviathan after the big battle scene was basically how I felt for Nina and Hanne throughout the whole duology. I just want Nina to be happy and as much as I loved Matthias, Nina deserves to be happy and I know that Matthias is happy for her too :< . . . . . . Edit: added more spaces plus fixed typos with *
i just finished the book and RAN to my phone to watch this video. i liked king of scars but i absolutely loved rule of wolves. zoya and nikolai!! and the crows!! and the political intrigue!! soooo good
Why am I just finding this video ???!!! Gosh your reactions to Zoyalai, a certain death and the CROOOOOWS were just like mine ! It's good to know I was not the only one losing my mind and unable to seat still reading this book :') (Really it's not just you !)
I did in fact come back when i read the book... two years later. I feel so seen by you and your reactions to this book. I cant believe i spent 2 years being afraid to read it and be disappointed. Im happy to say it was 5 stars 🌟
It's 5 am and i just finished this book and i came running to your video! Love your reactions to grisha-verse! I thought this book was so good!! I enjoyed every second i was reading this i just felt so immersed the world like i could get up and start walking around. It all felt so real to me, maybe because i know this universe and the settings so well already! Also.. Nikolai, Zoya and Nina are iconic legends! But the fact that we get all the other characters that have ever existed in grisha-verse in this book is EVERYTHING!!! And can we talk about that ending???? Leigh leaving it open for another book!!!! exciting!!!
It was very entertaining to watch you read and rave. A lot of things happened in the book, I didn't know how to feel...but in the end I definetely enjoyed it
frankly this made my day, my week, my year the editing in this was just *chef's kiss* also i'm so glad there's someone else who ships zoyalai as much as i do when they get to it on the show (manifesting rn) u already know i'm not shutting up about it for the next century
when the darkling was sacrificing himself on the thornwood and confessing his crimes, whatever i did i did for ravka. Imagine if he would've said Tell Alina starkov i loved her... Just imagining it made me scream..
Imagine zolayai wedding with young and beautiful by Lana Del Rey playing in the background on a full size orchestra(Nikolai's choice). "I've seen the world Done it all, had my cake now Emeralds(Diamonds), brilliant, and Bel-Air now" "And all the ways I got to know Your pretty face and electric soul" "All that grace, all that body All that face makes me wanna party She's my sun, she makes me shine like diamonds" "Will you still love me when I'm no longer young and beautiful? Will you still love me when I got nothin' but my aching soul? I know you will, I know you will, I know that you will"
why even fight over darklina or malina when we have zoyalai, genyadavid hina ?!!! tho i finished rule of wolves TODAY and i’m still not recovered but we NEED third six of crows book it’s not like we want it we NEED IT also i loved that video so much!! as i am fresh after finishing it i can relate to you so much
That's a new experience...normally, I agree with you in every single video (all the period drama stuff, the book reviews, the Bridgerton reactions...). I'm afraid, this time I feel different. I considered KoS to be a huge step back (compared to the SoC duology) and RoW was even worse. Sometimes, this duology felt like a very bad fanfiction and I had this "Somehow Palpatine returned"-feeling. Such a disappointment. I won't take this too long. Guess I will watch some of the rant videos now...to know that there are others that felt like me 😅
Just finished it & came straight here. I feel pretty much the same as you. Loved it, even though a few bits & pieces might not have been perfect. But wow did I enjoy this read.
Just finished and loveddd watching your reactions! So many absolute shockers, my face looked just like yours. Now I'm just wondering how far they are going to go with the show...is it going to end after the trilogy? Are we going to get Zoyalai?? I seriously hope so...
I could not agree with you more. Zoyalai was the ship I never thought I needed but now cannot get enough. I remember when Nikolai had proposed to Alina and given her the lantsov emerald, and zoya had joked about if Alina didn’t want it, she would marry Nikolai for her. And I recall Nikolai had made a couple of comments about zoya in the trilogy (I really can’t really details since it’s been a minute I read them) but I remember thinking, they should be a couple. I had not known I was shipping them before it was a thing!!! I also love that they are two of the most confident and strong characters in the series (I mean, ya know, in attractiveness and rank), and yet, when it came to each other, there is fear in doubt in the not knowing of how the other felt. Even after they had each other at the end, they still had comments about fear of losing the other. “A part of him was certain that she would simply change her mind about him and that would be the end of it.” I love that they see each other for who the other person truly is and still love and accept each other as they are. “There she was, bitter and bracing as strong drink.” I could go on and on about how much I love this pairing, but I will just end my novel of a comment with this... “I will always seek to make it summer for you.” *swoon*
I'm happy you injoyd this book but I didn't reading Alinla's part hurt me she feels so old and sick and broken she doesn't feel happy like living her happy ever after this book mad my very depressed and attacked is afan I'm done with leigh and after the way she is acting I made my mind about not watching the show but Ben released a video that malted my heart and I decided to watch it just for him even if I have to skip everyone else

i literally cannot stop thinking about the last line. third crows book. third crows book. third crows book
Finally someone who agrees! The King of Scars Duology is the best in the Grishaverse. Zoylai are goals in terms of feminist relationships

“I’m vain I’m shallow, I’m willing to admit that.” So I guess Zoya isn’t fictional huh.
