one thing i forgot to mention was how people’s unwavering devotion for the original film is kinda weird to me considering it features rampant homophobia, sexual assault, racism, etc. like yeah sarah michelle gellar is an icon but that doesn’t erase those elements of the film.
YES WE NEED MORE COLLEGE SHOWS THAT'S ONE OF THE REASON I LIKED THIS SHOW but even then I've nvr watched the og bc I'm not the primary audience I was born in the 2000's
I binged the entire season in 1 day while I was sick and then heard nothing about it online, like not even a peep, so before this video I was starting to believe that I hallucinated all of it
Girl you are one of my favorite book/show reactors/reviewers. Whenever I watch a show that I think might be on your radar I am waiting with anticipation and excitement to see you post a video and hear your thoughts!! LOVE YOU QUEEN!!! 💗💗
Just to touch on the costume/character design of Sebastian/Lucien, for the remake, I think they were going for a modern, fresh image. E.g Harry Styles or Timothee Chalamet. It's set in current day Virginia, not late 90s NYC. So i think the relaxed but trendy silhouette with the colourful cardigans makes sense. Tbh, I think Sebastians og character design was more out of place. Like, what 16y/o wears a custom tailored suit on a random day in June? Tbh, Nothing about the movie was based in reality but I digress.
I was always creeped out by the step sibling romance and high school setting of the original. That said I think the remake was good. Updated and modern, and they at least pulled back on the explicitly sexual scenes between step siblings of the original.
Have you ever seen Dangerous Liasons, the movie that Cruel Intentions is loosely based on, similar to Emma and Clueless. If not it’s Glenn Close and John Malkovich trying to ruin Uma Thurman (you’ll be glad to hear there’s no weird step-sibling thing though). I would love to see a video of your review of it.
I would love to see you review the two older movie versions of this story, Dangerous Liasons(1988) and Valmont(1989). I also believe there has been a recent 2022 TV adaption of Dangerous Liasons.
When I saw the first episode reactions on youtube my first thought was "they made a show?!" I've been curious about it. I consider the original to be a guilty pleasure but the original story, Dangerous Liasons is a favorite of mine.
Cruel Intentions is messed up because the characters in the original play: dangerous liaisons is messed up. The characters are narcissistic psychopaths and while they are rich, they are bored and view people as pawns in their games. That is the big theme of the play. I feel the story and theme of the play being universal and how you can still see people like Sebastian and Katherine today is a big reason why this is universal, in my opinion. I think Glenn Close was in the Dangerous Liaisons film. I winder how you would feel about that movie.
As what some folks call a “geriatric Millennial” 😂, I was a teenager when “Cruel Intentions” came out. I found it weird that more of my peers didn’t find the dynamic between Catherine and Sebastian VC Andrews adjacent, in terms of grossness, so wasn’t in to it as much. But upon the resurgence of this movie, (and now the series), there was a LOT that I missed contextually. Specifically, I have noticed with Gen Z and younger millennials’ dissection on the Cruel Intentions metaverse are two main different sides of the coin. One being the commentary on the fashion, mainly Sarah Michelle Gellar and Christine Barinski; and the other side being how deplorable Catherine and Sebastian were as sadistic and manipulative gr00mers. I appreciate the review and commentary, but since I feel like I’ve WAY aged out of seeing this show, I’ll just stick to my “Insecure” and “Abbott Elementary” lane 😅

Honestly, I have very neutral feelings towards it. Now if someone remade So Weird or Smart Guy, I would have a reaction.
@@katherinealvarez9216mention of a smart guy reboot? You piqued my interest for sure😂

If you want a time capsule of 1999 teen movie camp, you should give the original a watch
Cruel intentions from Annie’s perspective is just a harry styles fan fiction gone rogue

There’s also Valmont with Colin Firth… and also a really good Korean(?) version. And then you could always also read the book.

College setting with horrible people. You should check out Tell me lies lol
Yes, that show is crazy, but it’s good ☝️
I thought that Lucious recorded them because like.. that’s what he’s into but he never added it to the shared album?

*edited for grammar because we love autocorrect being incorrect* 🥲
Cruel Intentions is based on Dangerous Liaisons, a late 18th century novel.
I loved the character of CeCe. She was my favorite character and storyline
On the stepsibling romance, was this a thing in the 90s? You also have that in Clueless 😅
Annie and Lucien didn't sleep together.
There are other 2 adaptations.. one with glen close, and the other is a Netflix French version.. both are good too
I think they did sleep together but he didnt share the video to the shared album
Any chance you will finish with the Percy Jackson reactions? :)
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
the fact they're siblings makes it even better! jk
nah the series is kinda lame. Super dramatic for no reason
