PREPARING for our FIRST HOUSE GUESTS

- This is a HUGE moment for us. We have our first house guests arriving in less than a week, and at the start of the episode our build site is just that - a BUILD SITE!! Complete with tools everywhere, packaging that needs to be disposed of, and sooooo much sawdust!!
Will we be ready for our house guests or will they be sleeping in a build site??

And now a little back story on us, in case you just found us on UA-cam. We’re Sara and Ryan. We are your average suburban family, but 10 years ago, we purchased a raw piece of land in the Hood Canal in Washington. We’ve been developing this piece of property slowly, and this year we knew it was time to go all in. So we purchased a log cabin kit home and decided that 2020 would be the year we built a house on our property. We plan to build this cabin (as much as we can) on our own.
Unfortunately, some unforeseen events in 2020 that were completely out of our hands put a delay on our cabin kit being produced and delivered in the time frame we had originally planned. While we could have just waited it out and pushed back starting on the build of our home, we decided to shift gears and change our course for the time being. We purchased a 30 foot yurt, and will be setting it up as additional living space when we begin to build our cabin.
In the summer of 2021, we FINALLY moved to the Hood Canal so we could start the build of our future home. While we are building our home, we are living in a camper trailer and the yurt that we built in the summer of 2020. We hope to have our cabin kit home built by the end of 2023. Just my husband and I are building the house. We get help here and there from friends along the way and we do plan to get help on the roof but other than that we are doing it all on our own.
Follow along with us as we build our dream in the Hood Canal.

That's amazing! I'm glad we could be an inspiration to you.
My mom and dad used theirs as a broiler. My dad made garlic bread in it every Sunday. I don't use mine at all. Not even for storage. Have fun !!
I love seeing the kitchen come together. I’m sure that was rewarding work. I have been with my family in a cabin this week and it has made me think of your build several times!
I am soooooo happy for your family!!!!!!
This is New Year’s Day, and you are just getting ready for Thanksgiving, happy new years 2024
WOW a usable KITCHEN thank you GOD!!! I am so very proud of you both for ALL of the hard and beautiful work you have completed on your gorgeous HOME!!! I have followed your build since the beginning and I am sooooo happy your first family gathering is on THANKSGIVING!!! BIG HUGS to you ALL.
It was a very special day and made even more special by getting to spend it with my brother and his girlfriend. We have loved getting to use the kitchen for the holiday. Unfortunately, we need to turn it back into a build site for a bit longer as we finish everything up.
Soon though we will be moving in!
Praise God for sure on your move in date getting closer and closer LOL.@@OneFootOfftheGrid
We have enjoyed watching your progress on your build in 2023 and looking forward to great videos in the coming year!! HNY!!
Why you didn't install the floor first and then the kitchen units on top?
Excellent job
Functioning kitchen is giant step forward. everything is coming together!
1,000 pieces later and BAM, you have a kitchen. Great work.
Wow it is absolutely gorgeous ,
I'm not a fan of butcher block, but I've never seen one look that good.
🎉 Happy New Yaer 🍾🥂

Nice
Sweet dreams have fun. Great job guys.
You did a very good job you deserve a break Happy New Year. From Quebec Canada
nice video kitchen is getting there, so Happy New Years guy and we see you in 2024
Really could see the Joy in your daughter's face when she saw the stove working and thinking of making cookies .I love it. I bet you would have green doors on your fridge 😅
She was pretty excited! Lots of baking in our future!
Not all stoves have a warming drawer. Warming drawers are usually smaller, like yours. The drawer on my stove is much bigger and for storage only, per manual.
👍🏾
The kitchen is coming together so good, I love it❤👍
I watch you guys and I'm excited for you 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
I'm so happy for you guys, enjoy ❤❤❤.
Fabulous progress 🎉🎉
Hey you guys I truly love what you have done to the house now that all of your appliances are installed I hope that your family enjoyed themselves everything looks great keep it up. Big Daddy T, Richmond Virginia
What a lovely feeling it must be to start the final stages of your journey. Nothing seems to faze you guys. I bet your success inspires Ryan's brother to do something similar!
Good work. Are you planning on having a splashback on the wall behind the sink?
Love it, will the kitchen cabinet storage be enough thou
So excited for you that you got the kitchen done.
Glad you could spend Thanksgiving with Ryan's brother.
Hope they enjoyed being the first ones to spend the night there.
Hope you had a great Christmas and wishing you the best in 2024
Happy New Year to all your family

Should've kept the cardboard for your no-dig vegetable patch....
Your kitchen is looking good. Happy New Year
Happy new year
Happy New Year
I've always spelled refrigerator with a D. I'm 61 years old learning this now???
😮 you’re kidding right?
С Новым годом 🎉
Here in the UK we do have a d in refridgerator
Good to know.
Ok, I forgot, was there going to be upper cabinets too?
I was going for a colour for your kitchen cupboard like a dark blue/grey or black but see they are white so will say the fridge doors are black?I tiled my floor first before the cabinets as much easier but kitchen looking good. Are you going to put more cupboards up on the wall for more storage.
Happy 2024 to you both and hopefully you will have a break as well deserved.
"Its a house build and I helped!" lol a shake and bake reference?
I get so excited when someone gets one of my references. Lol!! I say that phrase SO much on the build when I'm just holding something (that I don't even need to be holding).
@@OneFootOfftheGrid holding something that you don't need to be holding AT THAT MOMENT! Just because you don't need it right then, doesn't mean you won't in the future...you're just super prepared!
The fridge is too big and blocks the space. You will need an extractor hood. Shame about the wood worktop which requires constant maintenance. Quartz.
We are planning to put in a Hood fan, we just didn’t get to it before thanksgiving. We are planning to do granite or concrete or epoxy at some point. The butcher blocks was a quick and easy to get our kitchen finished and then I’ll use the bucherblock in the workshop.
The refrigerator might be a bit big, but we cook a lot and use our refrigerator frequently so it was worth the trade-off.
Really???
They worked hard. They shared THEIR processes and choices. Now you may create your own.
Happy thanksgiving to this family and well done……
❤😊❤😊❤😊
I noticed the d in refrigerator when you wrote it, but it is a common mistake, no worries. We all know what you meant.
Lantainya belum di dipasang kenapa sudah pasang kitchen set??apa tidak terhalangi atau terlewati sebagian lantai?
I still can’t figure out how you are going to to the flooring unless you do a kickplate to hide the legs!,
Yes, toe kicks will cover the flooring. I might even try to run the flooring under the front set of appliance legs. I'll have to see how it looks when we get to that point.
@@OneFootOfftheGrid that is a great idea we had trouble getting our dishwasher out after we had done flooring and didn’t run it all the way under it!,
👏🏻👋🙂🙋♂️👍
If you use the correct Philips screw driver you will not have that ratchet sound and strip out the screw head.
I think the sound you heard was that of the impact driver. There was one screw that started stripping and that is why I pre-drilled.
At this point, who doesn't know Samsung appliances are THE worst by far??
I certainly wasn't. Hopefully we have better luck with ours.
Your daughter is a furry? 29:46
Too bad your floor isn't done first...
Actually, throughout our research we found out that having flooring done before cabinets and appliances isn't always best. Especially with some floorings as the appliances can add too much weight in some places and cause the flooring to flex or buckle.
Thanks for watching!
Ok, I forgot, was there going to be upper cabinets too?
We are actually going to do open shelving with some cool live edge boards for our upper storage. Trying to keep things minimal.
