The second declassified Chinese note that I quote from was dated July 31. I mixed it up to say April 31. Certainly even the Chinese or Nehru for that matter, could have made April a 31-day month in any year, or 1960. Apologies....SG

Mr. Nehru’s romantic idea of Asia emerging out of colonialism as one united family truly sank him. He should have listened to the Dalai Lama, then and still the undisputed leader of Tibet, to be very cautious dealing with China. Mr. Nerhu, with his narrow and foolish advisor VK Menon (the person who long aspired for a communist revolution in India what Mao did in China) in fact suggested the Dalai Lama not to bring or raise Tibet issue in UN, and yet he himself rather dragged Kashmir there. India’s foreign policy vis-a-vis Tibet and China was and is the most serious blunder of Mr. Nerhu from which, I think, he never redeemed himself nor historians will. Jai Bharat! Jai Tibbat! Jai Jagat!
Chou-en- Lai once declared after a meeting that he had not met a man as arrogant as Nehru. He was indeed vain, incapable and arrogant. And it cost India.
Nehru is a hypocrite as he was very critical of European imperialism but supported the imperialism/colonialism of China by lying shamelessly saying that India and China had 1000s of peaceful Sino-Indian border.
So what should india do now? Should we then deport all TIBETANS out of India?? Its easy pointing fingers at Nehru, and then why don't you see that he had the guts to welcome some Buddhist monks, who ran away from Tibet due to oppression by china?

1. New Delhi should start a radio station in Chinese language, if could, in Chinese official language - Mandarin.
2. After all this global lockdown, invite pro-democratic Chinese students from Hong Kong, the mainland China and across the world to showcase how Indian democracy and election system work.
3. Invite the Prime Minister of Taiwan as an unofficial guest of India. Offer her unofficial state visit to sacred Buddhist sites like Bodh Gaya and Sanchi. Tsai Ing-wen is a Buddhist.
4. Honor the Dalai Lama with the Bharat Ratan for his tireless contribution in promoting ageless Indian culture of Ahimsa (non-violence) and Karuna (compassion) all-over the world.
5. Millions of Chinese Buddhists (around 500 millions) have a soft corner for India because of being the land of Buddha. New Delhi should provide more visas (after Covid19) to these Chinese for pilgrimage.
6. Provide government funded scholarships to bright Indian students to study Chinese, especially their language.
7. It’s important on our part to differentiate common hard-working Chinese people with their dictatorial Chinese Communist Party in Beijing.
Actually it is more gandhian philosphy of non arms that hurt india and nehru being his right hand followed it, that resulted in india not capturing POK and losing in 62 war, Gandhian philosophy of no arms is fine but it wont wirk in this century where the rule is one who has the power will dominate, gandhi was not in favour of india having a dedicated armed force,
Sir fundamentally since after brutal invasion of Tibet by China in 1950 , India had to deal with 1000 km border with China and which is still lingering on.
As a bihari i am still waiting for the day when bihar will stop topping the chart from bottom.
Dont worry soon telengana will fall in to the last spot. Our CM is capable of doing that
India should have honored the Simla Tripartite Agreement and declare Tibet as an invaded country from Day 1.
And part of India
@V India has always supported a free Tibet sir. That is how we have the Dalai Lama staying with us since 1958. The Tibetans have official refugee status and pay no taxes. Buddhism was born in India and Gaya is the biggest place of pilgrimage for all Buddhists. Other countries have their own pagodas, monasteries etc. They develop them ,as tourist spots ,as they wish.
@V Tibet is under control of China ,so a free Tibet is not music to their ears. And they wont let that happen in a hurry, even though India has supported a free Tibet in the United Nations.
So true
It was Nehru and his dynasty who did the blunder.

If Nehru sent the Chinese representative to individual of his Cabinet to win them over, it shows what a weak leader he was!
One of the biggest blunders Nehru made that India still paying price is giving the UNSC seat to china. His infatuation with socialism made him blind to see china clearly, he gave the seat to china and china is the only reason we are still not in the UNSC
It is imperative that India and China improve their relations. Don't forget that we have been friends for thousands of years. Both China and India are peaceful nations with huge populations to feed and educate. Both have been thoroughly oppressed and exploited by foreign nations.

1. If the total tests are X = X1+X2
Where X is total, X1 are the tests conducted on new persons and X2 are tests conducted on active covid patients, I am not able to find this data.
As the same data can be used to determine the positivity rate in a very different manner from what you mentioned in yesterday’s CTC
2. The total tests that India is conducting these days are around 1.4-1.5 lacs per day. I am not able to find this as well anywhere. Can you please provide a link to this data.

Requested same topic yesterday and got the wish today itself... But what's the larger long term Indo-China relationship that you as an onlooker-commentator can envision...this part was missing. Your CTCs on India-China issues have all been excellent but what has been lacking in all of them is the larger unifying framework/narrative under which u think India-china should or will deal with each-other in the future...
What is April 31st Note, is it a sl.number or a date, is really the note is dated April 31st?
It was the statesmanship of Nehru that we responded to Chinese occupation of Indian territory with bullets and beyonets and bullets 60 years back when India did not even had the basic equipments to take on. Though we lost on ground , we fought valiantly. Don't forget that despite all the might that China had he did not dare to indulge in the military adventurism all these 60 years. This is the legacy of Nehru Mr. SG.
The Print has to accept the fact that India has no border with china but Tibet.
Nehru laid foundations for IITs and NITs. I am grateful to him for that. Our country needs more educational institutions like these. ❤

Compromising attitude of Indian border guard shows the sarcastic nature of stone throwing confrontation of war mongering India. Thanks to Gupta ji for reminding us of Chou en Lai's offer for peace, now a source of repentance. India was and still a child compared to China.

Please put a small note during this span.
2) Sir mentioned 68 years since China war. It should be 58.
3) At 22:10, J&K has tested 9862 but in the graph it is written 90862.
Even though India had nothing then the leaders still had the guts to say her lost. And we are not even talking about the free opinion and democratic leadership in the cabinet. Everyone since then would have gladly taken up the deal. Wonder how would have they dealt with coronavirus now.
You messed up the hashtag...lower case and uppercase characters 😒😐
How does it really matter to be a 'democrat' to win over a sentiment like settling a border issue? Basically, Nehru was an absolute blunder in terms of 'diplomacy'!
You should sell cut the clutter to Netflix. Very knowledgeable
Today India and China are not what they were in 1960. Major unresolved issues we have today were created during Nehru era. He made simple issues so complex that they are lingering till now. I couldn't gather now how can such great leaders of that time could not see that a "calm and peaceful" boarder would help nation to develop.
Nehru was responsible for Kashmir problem, China problem, UN security council seat and many more problems of today's India.
It will be great if we can do a strategic comparison in case of a conflict and how it will play out logically
PLEASE MAKE A GRAPH TO SHOWING
1) CURED CASES VS ACTIVE CASES
This will give idea of people getting well and patients under care that is work in progress.
2)TESTEING DONE VS ASYMTOMATIC CASES + LOW SYMPTOMATIC FOUND EVERY DAY.
This will give idea of rate of IMMUNITY being developed in various areas , regions, communities and soceities.

Sir SG, do you think that the Chinese are compelling us to have a dialogue of any kind by triggering border tension?
Neville Maxwell, in his "India's China War" cites Nehru's admonitions to his ministers and secretaries not even to acknowledge that there is border dispute. While setting up police outposts as a part of forward policy in remote areas with hardly any backup, he kept denying that there was a border dispute with China. How does one solve if a problem does not exist according to one? Chou En Lai offered a trade off between NEFA, now Arunachal Pradesh and Axai Chin. While Axai chin is easily accessible by road from China's side, NEFA is difficult to access from China's side. On the other hand, Axai Chin is inaccessible from Indian side and difficult to defend as its average altitude is 17700 feet. Whereas, NEFA was accessible by roads, though inadequate. But, Nehru rejected the offer, though he himself said in parliament that "not a blade of grass grows" in Axai Chin. So, Government banned Neville maxwell's book in India!
Nehru thought that the British Empire was behind him because of his accent and manners. A sort of Sashi Thatoor like scenario.
"Nehru did not run a cabinet in the way cabinets are run today. Other people in the cabinet also had a voice." - That's a major burn Mr Shekhar Gupta. I hope Bhakts feel it.
Mr. Shekhar Gupta, "Thirty days hath September,
April, June, and November,
All the rest have thirty-one,
But February's twenty-eight,
The LEAP YEAR, which comes once in four,
Gives February one day more."
Nehru would have been only PM in modern world, who continued even after loosing a war so badly. That was his urge for power.
US lost Korean and Vietnam war and no US president resigned for that.
I really like 'Cut the Clutter'...it is a great show. I feel so much respect for such quality journalism...which is hardly to be seen nowadays at least in our country...please get more shows by Gupta ji...so much to learn from him...right from his delivery, the content, to his humility and giving credit where due. His unbiased approach lets people build their own opinions that too in an informed manner.
That the Indian people wanted more from their rulers and did not get it, was evident from the films of the time - "Andhe jahan ke andhe raste," "Jinhe naaz hai Hind par woh kahan hai" etc were songs that summarized the despondency of the time. Nehru himself had banned the playing of film music on AIR, something that Ameen Sayani kept reminding the world about.
In the end, a totally unprepared India got it's hide handed to it in the 62 war. Hopefully, we have learned lessons from then.
SG sir, Madhesis are communities of terai who share curture and language with bordering states of Bihar and UP. Bhojpuri and maithili are the major languages in the region. There is a familial exchange between people of Terai and UP, Bihar , which makes them supportive of India. The Madhesis have faced discrimination from people of mountain region (dominant) especially in government jobs like clerks, police, army and also sometimes racial slur. Some of the hilly groups, don't consider Madhesis as even Nepalese, which is why they have to prove themselves time and again. This is why there is constant push for equal rights for Madhesis and people of hilly regions don't want to lose their monopoly and dominance.

If in 1960s India would have a strong military infra in north-east and if we would have stooped China's annexation of Tibet, we would have Aksai Chin as a part of India, Pakistan wouldn't have given territory of J&K as a gift to China, Tibet would have been a free country and China's boundary wouldn't have touching India and Pakistan, which means no CPEC and no border issues between India and China. You fight a war and can die in peace but if you are too afraid to fight, you have to live in fear for your rest of your life...
