As an objective observer, this security law is justified. Article 23 of the HK Basic Law says that such a law must be enacted. Macao, another former colony, has had such a security law since 2009. Ideally HK was supposed to pass such a law themselves but the pro-independence camp has made this impossible leaving Beijing no choice but to step in and bypass the LegCo.
It is not unreasonable for China to enforce its sovereignty over Hong Kong ensuring that any all sedition and separatism is curbed. It’s clear that many in pro-democracy/independence camp are collaborating with the US against China.
Just imagine if American dissidents collaborated with Russia or China against the US. Does anyone really think the United States would tolerate this sort of activity for a second?
Also even if China did nothing, the one country, two systems policy would come to an end in 2047. China was never going to grant HK independence so that it would invite the US to open yet another military base on China’s doorstep. This isn’t an unreasonable position.
Unfortunately the concept of American Exceptionalism blinds most of my fellow Americans. They don’t see any of this as a double standard because America is intrinsically good and China intrinsically evil. This way of thinking is a serious threat to world peace and is a recipe for perpetual war.
In my honest opinion I believe that every nation should respect the sovereignty of other nations. That means we don’t interfere with China’s internal affairs nor should China interfere in our domestic affairs.

I was just talking to a friend of mine who is a Hong Kong citizen. People cannot protest much but are dissatisfied as well. General perception is that - they were striving for greater autonomy and suddenly there will be none. Shock and pessimism!

Let us not forget history and how China was treated. How would you feel if I came to your house uninvited, took over a bedroom, started a drug business from that room and after a 100 years agreed to leave provided you exercised no real control over that room? Would you accept it? That exactly is what happened in Hongkong. Morally it is wrong for the World to tell China it cannot integrate Hongkong fully into China. We in India should be wary: this is like Pakistan telling us what we can and cannot do in Kashmir. In 1997 China needed Hongkong so they accepted the conditions Britain imposed for leaving Hongkong. In 2020 Hongkong needs China. That is the reality. We in India should not get too ideological about Hongkong, Taiwan or Tibet. Given the American lack of constancy, principle, and morality in international affairs our interests are better served by better relations with China. We both suffered under Colonial rule albeit China far less than India. Our fight is over borders drawn by the same colonial power! I find this strange. It is time that our politicians took some history lessons, and became practical . We have more to offer China than Pakistan, economically speaking. Before China finds viable alternative to a friendly India - believe me one day they will - we should settle our issues.

First LAC and now this Law confirms that China mainland is not happy about the government and the government is doing whatever it can to divert that anger and arise nationalist feeling. I hope pandemic brings huge internal changes in China first rather than Hongkong or taiwan but afraid that communist party will target next either taiwan or south china sea.

An average Chinese knows much more about India's background, limitations and ambitions than us Indians knows about China in general. In order to beat an enemy, first we should learn more about them, read Chinese books (translations are available), their fictions then we would realize how much gap we have compare to enemy's ambition, level of planning & strategic working

Looks like Hong Kong's fate is sealed. Just as when Hitler occupied Austria beore WW 2, Britain and other allies just watched. I sincerely hope that just as Hong Kong residents are protesting, Chinese will also raise in rebillion and topple the oppressive communist regime. China has seen enough revolutions in last seventy years. One more wouldn't hurt.
Regarding the safety of hydroxychloroquine, there is a big difference between taking it prophylactically once in a week and giving high doses daily in a bid to suppress viral replication (supposedly).
Prophylactic doses probably have a low risk of side effects and even marginal benefit would warrant giving it a try while being fully cognisant that it won't give perfect results. It being cheap also supports trying it out.
Current evidence for using high doses daily in active disease has shown that it really doesn't work and in certain people it does produce life threatening arrhythmias. People with other chronic diseases are likely to be at increased risk of this. There are other drugs showing more promise than it.
So no, it won't be a "game changer" but may have marginal benefit in the right circumstances. The information regarding its use is still being generated.
I liked the episode. One thing I think you missed or can educate viewers like us about the treaty between Britain and China over Hongkong in 1997. What I read somewhere that all these law which China has to obey in Hong Kong is applicable upto 2046 only i.e. for 50 years. After that China is free to dictate the way he wants to in Hong Kong.

U mentioned that XI Jinping is internally very strong but to be precise, his foothold and stature has got a setback among Chinese after he amended the constitution in 2018 placing himself as the lifelong president.
One correction- UK does not intend to get the smartest brightest from HK- the visa scheme will only allow BNO passport holders ( pre 1997 registration) a path the citizenship and permanent residence. There is no announcement of any visa scheme for all HK residents.

All neighbors of China should form a solid front which must include defence treaty similar to NATO including global powers like USA, Britain, France, Germany and Australia to contain Chinese use of force against its neighbors. Unless this is done immediately China can take on each country separately and go about its present style colonialism through communism ( a kind of dictatorship now). In this regard these countries should not delay and show what civilized behavior among nations should be. Interestingly Russia too had a vicious fight against China along its borders and should think of joining hands with rest of civilization at least on this issue. This united action would result in peace in Asia.
