I'd pick a different ten every time you asked me. It's impossible to sit and think of every song in existence like some giant super-computer and rank them against each other. The best I could do is think of ten songs I'd like to hear right now.
Great story about your Dad and Brandy. I have a similar memory with Chicago’s greatest hits. Every Saturday with my dad going to Stover Feed Mill or the hardware store. Great memories. For that reason one on my favorite songs is “Saturday in The Park”. The opening piano always gives me chills.
Probably my favorite Zep song. You got the killer riff, together with Bonzo's kick drum. What sets this over the top IMO is that Jonesy just pumps the Bass straight on. And of course you got "I been to London, seen seven wonders.." on top.
@@KingArthur0725 Hell yeah; best section starts right at 2:37 of the tune. The 2 37 got hi lighted, but doesn't apply to Pete's clip, but the actual song.
It's everything that is good about Led Zeppelin. What I like to do though, is just listen to Page's guitar work all the way through. I especially love the fade at the end. Page was killing it on this song.

The Spinners choice seemingly came out of nowhere. One of my favorites from the fall of 1975. I was in eighth grade and life was so simple, but I didn't realize it at the time.

First off, very gutsy to even attempt this. Secondly, I love the way Pete speaks about music in general. You’ve all heard the expression, “you can’t take it with you” when talking about material things. I personally believe you will take your music with you. I believe your brain and subsequently your spirit, will hold your music forever.
You blew me away with savatage!!! I love them too- and on your rock opera list i was waiting for it, and i was glad you picked streets cause.. (Duh!) But i did not expect hall of the mt king in your fav songs! You rock! Thanks for that...

What an interesting top ten. I was thrilled to hear "Warm Wet Circles" get an honourable mention. And you are quite right Pete "Clutching at Straws" is Marillion's best album. My personal favourite song by Marillion is "The Last Straw" and the live version of it at Wembley Arena from 5th of Nov 1987 is awesome, I was lucky enough to be there. Bruce Dickenson came on for the encore that night. Funnily enough both "Clutching at Straws" and "Whitesnake" 1987 came out on vinyl with embossed covers both of which I bought way back in 1987, the year I turned 18! You have brought back lots of memories. I had several of the Whitesnake singles from that album on either picture disc or white vinyl even "Here I go again" on 10 inch white vinyl. Happy days. And "The Messiah Will Come Again" by Gary Moore is just jaw dropping.
1. The Doors: When the Music's Over 2. Iron Butterfly: In-a-Gadda-da-Vida 3. The Bee Gees: To Love Somebody 4. Jethro Tull: Aqualung 5. Led Zeppelin: Stairway to Heaven 6. Procol Harum: Repent Walpurgis 7. Cream: Sweet Wine 8. Grateful Dead: Morning Dew 9. Emerson, Lake & Palmer: Lucky Man 10. Traffic: Dear Mr. Fantasy
Man, it's hard enough to pick favorite 10 bands of all time, let alone albums, or even more impossible songs. A list like this could change for me daily.
Great list. Songs that resonate with me today... and most days in fact. Tears of a Clown - Smokey Robinson and the Miracles All Along the Watchtower - Jimi Hendrix Dancing Barefoot - Patti Smith I Saw the Light - Todd Rundgren Gimme Shelter - The Stones Oh I Wept - Free I've Been Loving You too Long - Otis Redding Last Chance Texaco - Ricki Lee Jones Galbraith Street - Ron Sexsmith Time (the Revelator) - Gillian Welch. Of course this list changes but all of the above mean something to me.
In no particular order: 10. Lightning Crashes - Live 9. Minstrel in the Gallery - Jethro Tull 8. Dogs - Pink Floyd 7. White Room - Cream 6. Physical Love - Eddie Hazel 5. California Dreamin - Eddie Hazel 4. Pali Gap - Jimi Hendrix 3. Lady Fantasy - Camel 2. Still Loving You - Scorpions 1. Shine On You Crazy Diamond - Pink Floyd Definitely hard to nail down, so I had to go off the content of the song and the nostalgic factor.
This may be the most confounding list posted here for a Classic Rock/Metal/Hard Rock site but I find the songs that really resonate with me over time are the ones that touch my heart. They are more reflective than rockin'. I never tire of these ...10) Us And Them-Pink Floyd (beautiful and haunting) 9) Born To Run- Bruce Springsteen (and I'm not really a big Springsteen fan) 8) Galveston-Glen Campbell (love the melody, was too young to get what the lyrics were really about, and when I did, I loved it even more) 8) Brown Sugar-The Rolling Stones ( well, that one ROCKS!) 7) Harbor Lights-Boz Scaggs (gets me every time) 6) Build Me Up, Buttercup- The Foundations (my Brandy, I guess. Perfect soul pop!) 5) Everybody Wants To Rule The World- Tears For Fears 4) One Less Bell To Answer- The 5th Dimension (beautiful Marilyn McCoo vocals) 3) Fanny- The Bee Gees (another perfect pop song) 2) The Long And Winding Road- The Beatles (gives me goosebumps.Give me the fully orchistrated Phil Spector version too!) 1) I'm Not In Love- 10cc (my favorite of all time. Ethereal, lyrics that belie the emotion, with so many fantastic musical pieces intertwined.)
Interesting list. From yours this is how I would rank them 1 - Us and Them 2 - Long and Winding Road 3 - Born to Run 4 - Not in Love 5 - Brown Sugar Here are mine, In no particular order: Child in Time - Deep Purple Suite Madame Blue - Styx House of the Rising Sun - Animals Gimme Shelter - Stones The End - Doors La Villa Strangiato(Live) - RUSH Voodoo Child(Live)- Stevie Ray Vaughan Brothers in Arms - Dire Straits Long as I can see the Light - CCR Echoes - Pink Floyd Honorable mention - Hurt - Johnny Cash, Old Man - Neil Young, 25 or 6 to 4 - Chicago
Whitesnake, great choice for nr 1. Got every album, saw them perform in a small club in the Netherlands, it was magic! Thanks for reminding me of that awesome music experience.
Silly Love Songs. Wow. Sometimes have thought I’m the only one who loves it. Has my favorite bass line of all time. Took the Jamerson influence and ran with it. The live Wings version is off the scale - sings like that *and* plays that bass line. Too much talent for one man
I’m late to the party, but here are some faves in no particular order: “Baba O’ Riley”-The Who, “For Your Love”- The Yardbirds, “That Smell”- Lynyrd Skynyrd, “Peace Sells, But Who’s Buying?”- Megadeth, “Love Alive”- Heart, “Orion”- Metallica, “Rhiannon”- Fleetwood Mac, and most of Pete’s top ten and honorable mentions.
Great list, Pete. For two of your (and my) picks, Snowblind and Burn, let's not forget Ward and Paice. In particular, the drums in the first minute of Burn are astonishing.
I like HOW you like Brandy and it shows how sometimes music can just take you back to an earlier time. Not many other things that can bring on that kind of nostalgia like music and nice of you to share that memory!
Hey Pete speaking of “ Child in Time “ have you ever considered assembling a top 10 favorite ‘ long, epic ‘ rock songs list ? Love to see that. Thinking about putting together one myself.
I gotta weigh in on this. There are tunes that you never get tired of hearing! In no particular order- Green-Eyed Lady: Sugarloaf- original only! Jerry Corbetta has redone it and it isn't as good as the first. Owner Of A Lonely Heart- Yes. Something about this tune. Movin Out- Aerosmith. Lovely little tune. Bastille Day- Rush. I love all the old Rush but this is a Rush gateway tune. If you like it they are for you. Let Me Introduce You To The Family - The Stranglers. Lots of fun and hard to get out of your head. One Thing Leads To Another- The Fixx. It still gives me a boost of energy. Behind The Barrier - Planet P Project. A great dark comedy from the Cold War era. Short Memory- Midnight Oil Little Wing - Jimi Hendrix Cold Turkey - John Lennon. I would like to add that each of these songs is associated with a major event or time in my life and that makes them special. Hearing them takes me back to that time and brings back very warm fuzzy feelings! That is what art is supposed to do.
Nice list. From your choices, I'd say you were probably born around ten years before me. I was born in 1952. Anyway, here are some of my favourites/honourable mentions: Who Knows - Jimi Hendrix When the Music's Over - The Doors Memphis Underground - Herbie Mann Something in the Air - Thunderclap Newman Sufficiently Breathless - Captain Beyond After Hours - Clark/Hutchinson Hey, Bo Diddley - Bob Seger South California Purples - Chicago Transit Authority Bridge of Sighs - Robin Trower I am the Walrus - Spooky Tooth Honourable mentions : Rumplestiltskin - Rumplestiltskin Black Magic Woman - Santana I'll Be Around - The Spinners Skelington - Colosseum Indian Summer - Audience Looking for the Summer - Chris Rea Sex Machine - Sly & the Family Stone Green River - CCR
A few songs that could get on my top ten songs of all time! "Colosseum II - Down to You" "Ennio Morricone - A Fistful Of Dynamite" "Deep Purple - Child in Time" "AC/DC - Shake a Leg" "Rainbow - The Temple of the King" "Aerosmith - Sick As a Dog" "Joe Satriani - Summer Song" "King Crimson - I Talk to the Wind" "The Shadows - Wonderful Land" "Simon & Garfunkel - America"
Always loved Brandy as well, 100% agreed.. The drummer Jeff Grob grew up in my home town of New Providence NJ in the 1970's, and was the building handyman when I lived in Hoboken in the 80's.
My Top 10 favorite songs of all time are 1. Jimmy Spicer's "The Adventures Of Super Rhymes" 2. Black Sabbath's "Into The Void" 3. Yes's "And You And I" 4. Van Der Graaf Generator's "A Plague Of Lighthouse Keepers" 5. Rainbow's "Man On The Silver Mountain" 6. Jethro Tull's "Minstrel In The Gallery" 7. Pink Floyd's "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" 8. Paul McCartney/Wings' "Junior's Farm" 9. Peter & Gordon's "A World Without Love" 10. Chad & Jeremy's "A Summer Song"
Do love that list❤️🙏 That's my top 10: Brian Eno: An Ending (Ascent) Planet Caravan- Black Sabbath One of my turns- Pink Floyd Die young- Black sabbath Amico fragile- Fabrizio De André Comfortably Numb- Pink Floyd Prowler- Iron Maiden Suzanne- Leonard Cohen Epitaph- King Crimson House With No Doors- Van Der Graaf Generator
Loved hearing your top 10 and HMs. OMGoodness, I gotta know, Pete, how long did it take you to whittle down to these tracks? It nearly makes my head explode just thinking about trying to narrow down my list to this degree!!! "Siberian Khatru" is probably my favorite song of all time. And the whole album "Close to the Edge" is also probably my favorite album of all time "See Me, Feel Me" brings back such intense, but also confusing memories for me, especially the Woodstock performance. I say confusing, because I obsess about the timeline, and my memories that I can't reconcile with the stated "release date" of the movie in theaters. Bittersweet and mysterious memories..... Rush's "Xanadu" would probably end up in my Top 20. And, I also have to admit that "Brandy" is a fine tune! I've always loved it, and I know I loved it when it first came out. And yet, it's another one that I can't really connect my memory to the time of it's release. Anyway......... I hope you are still considering a Top 10 and/or History Of for ELO and The Moody Blues"! (If you listed either or both of them in your gargantuan list of "upcomings", please forgive me forgetting; I was overwhelmed with your list. I need to watch that video again!!) Love ya, Man!
I´ll give you five Deep Purple- Speed King Opeth - The Drapery Falls Jethro Tull - Reasons for Waiting Rainbow - Still I´m Sad (live) Pavlov´s Dog - Song Dance
My top 10 1. The Temptations - Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me) 2. Steely Dan - Haitian Divorce 3. Richard and Linda Thompson - A Heart Needs A Home 4. Ace - How Long 5. 10cc - I’m Not In Love 6. Sister Sledge - Thinking of You 7. ABBA - SOS 8. Wings - Let ‘Em In 9. Joni Mitchell - Don Juan’s Reckless Daughter 10. Donna Summer - On the Radio
Patrick Crowther Haitian Divorce is very underrated in the grand scheme of Steely Dan’s discography- my favorite song by them, very cool to see it at number 2 on someone’s list
This is just a very FEW of my all time favorites! Blue Ridge Mountains, "live" Marshall Tucker. Fantasy, Moxy. Metal Church, Metal Church. Finding Me A Way Back Home, Trevor Rabin. On The Run, Lake. Fast As A Shark, Accept. Mountain Song, Jane's Addiction. Dead And Gone, Gypsy. Ah Leah, Donnie Iris. Goin' Down The Road, Painter. My "pop" fav.is Summer Breeze, Seals and Croft.

Snail, TheJoker. Mama's Pride, Kind Lovin Woman. Point Blank, The Hard Way. Judas Priest, Rapid Fire. Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Look Away.
My top 5: The Soft Parade-The Doors Imagine-John Lennon Stairway To Heaven-Led Zeppelin House Of The Rising Sun-The Animals Like A Rolling Stone-Bob Dylan
Great choices. I could easily picked4 of them. Prefer Break on Through by The Doors which was my first favorite rock and roll song the first time I heard it. I was a DJ volunteer at a dance. After playing it 14 times in a row, I was released from my duties.
About 20 years ago they played "The Messiah Will Come Again" at my childhood friend's funeral, but the original Roy Buchanan version. I still have a tough time listening to it, but it is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.
Can't put them in order but my top 10 Jessica - Allman Brothers Foreplay / Long Time - Boston Hotel California - Eagles Sister Golden Hair - America Highway Star - Deep Purple Yesterday - The Beatles Barracuda - Heart Us and Them - Pink Floyd Wind Of Change - Scorpions Dreams - Fleetwood Mac

Excellent list Pete!! I’m with you on Hall Of The Mountain King...WOW!!! Incredible and powerful tune!!! Love it!!!
My favourite song is Sultans of swing. I'ts just so nostalgic for me and the Alchemy live preformance is my favourite live preformance

The Alchemy Live album is one of the greatest ever Live albums.
Fantastic list, Pete! You’ve motivated me to take a stab at it as well! Might take a few months, but I’m gonna try 👍 Thanks again for all you do!
Much respect for having the discipline and ability to whittle your massive listening catalog to just 10 songs. I wouldn't know where to start!
He should do a top 10 everyday for 30 days, each day would be different but it would be an interesting experiment. 🎸 👍

@@donjohnston6420 what? I havent heard of any of those songs!
The Rover from Zeppelin. This song is so underrated. I agree. Kick ass tune which never got airplay.
Probably my favorite Zep song. You got the killer riff, together with Bonzo's kick drum. What sets this over the top IMO is that Jonesy just pumps the Bass straight on. And of course you got "I been to London, seen seven wonders.." on top.
Awesome song. I have no idea why it didn't become a huge hit.
@@KingArthur0725 Hell yeah; best section starts right at 2:37 of the tune. The 2 37 got hi lighted, but doesn't apply to Pete's clip, but the actual song.
It's number 8 on my list (see above).
It's everything that is good about Led Zeppelin. What I like to do though, is just listen to Page's guitar work all the way through. I especially love the fade at the end. Page was killing it on this song.
You know what? You just helped me remember how much I love Still of the Night and the whole album. Thank you!
It’s so Zeppelin that it detracted from how good a track it is when listened to without prejudice. Hence not given the honours it deserves IMO.
Brandi what a cool pick love that song too!!!!! Still love it remember hearing it as a youngster on AM radio
There's so many great songs of all kind , you did what would be impossible for me to pick a top ten , I like so many.
Just started viewing your channel. Love the content. Nice work!

The Spinners choice seemingly came out of nowhere. One of my favorites from the fall of 1975. I was in eighth grade and life was so simple, but I didn't realize it at the time.
Great list. I know some of them, so I'll check out the others, thank you.
My list:

love the passion you show for the music you love and really care about. we might make a good siskel and ebert duo!
Nice memories of spending weekends with your Pop. I just lost mine. Make sure he knows how much those times meant to you!
I have purchased so many albums I was unaware of thanks to you, keep up the good work. (you should be getting perks from record labels for this)
Child in Time.
My most beloved tune ever.
Turn the lights off and blast it through the headphones or through a PA system
Yeah, that is a kick ass song. I haven't heard it in a while but great choice. Live version especially.
This song is plagiarism

Limelight might make it near the bottom of my top 200, King of Pain top 500
Any list that starts off with The Clash and Rush is a very good start!

And one of their heaviest too
That's one of my top 10 DP songs.

Hi Pete. Are these still your top ten today? Maybe you could do this subject again on the hudson Valley squares
Awesome to hear Savatage on there! Sirens is my favorite but there are so many great ones!
1. The Doors: When the Music's Over
2. Iron Butterfly: In-a-Gadda-da-Vida
3. The Bee Gees: To Love Somebody
4. Jethro Tull: Aqualung
5. Led Zeppelin: Stairway to Heaven

7. Cream: Sweet Wine
8. Grateful Dead: Morning Dew
9. Emerson, Lake & Palmer: Lucky Man
10. Traffic: Dear Mr. Fantasy
one of the hardest questions in life!!!
Man, it's hard enough to pick favorite 10 bands of all time, let alone albums, or even more impossible songs. A list like this could change for me daily.
kitoyobeni1 so true
Great watch. Could never get into Emerald and I love Thin Lizzy. Some great calls here.
Blimey Pete, I'm not getting anything done here! Keep up the good work! Ha ha! Great Doors show too!
Remember hearing Burn on WRKO on old portable transistor radio in 74 Life changing!
Great list. Songs that resonate with me today... and most days in fact.
Tears of a Clown - Smokey Robinson and the Miracles
All Along the Watchtower - Jimi Hendrix
Dancing Barefoot - Patti Smith
I Saw the Light - Todd Rundgren
Gimme Shelter - The Stones
Oh I Wept - Free
I've Been Loving You too Long - Otis Redding
Last Chance Texaco - Ricki Lee Jones
Galbraith Street - Ron Sexsmith
Time (the Revelator) - Gillian Welch.
Of course this list changes but all of the above mean something to me.

10. Lightning Crashes - Live
9. Minstrel in the Gallery - Jethro Tull
8. Dogs - Pink Floyd
7. White Room - Cream
6. Physical Love - Eddie Hazel
5. California Dreamin - Eddie Hazel
4. Pali Gap - Jimi Hendrix
3. Lady Fantasy - Camel
2. Still Loving You - Scorpions
1. Shine On You Crazy Diamond - Pink Floyd
Definitely hard to nail down, so I had to go off the content of the song and the nostalgic factor.
I could easily be talked into putting White Room into my top 10.
lightning crashes is awesome
Live is an excellent Band especially there first four albums...Secret Samardi real good 👍.
Lol You said no particular order and then you number them ......classic !!!
Love minstrel in the gallery
My favorite of all time is Time by Alan parsons Project.
Lovely song. The song sounds just like its title. It flows like a river.
Time by Floyd
From yours this is how I would rank them 1 - Us and Them 2 - Long and Winding Road 3 - Born to Run 4 - Not in Love 5 - Brown Sugar
Here are mine,
In no particular order:
Child in Time - Deep Purple
Suite Madame Blue - Styx
House of the Rising Sun - Animals
Gimme Shelter - Stones
The End - Doors
La Villa Strangiato(Live) - RUSH
Voodoo Child(Live)- Stevie Ray Vaughan
Brothers in Arms - Dire Straits
Long as I can see the Light - CCR
Echoes - Pink Floyd
Honorable mention - Hurt - Johnny Cash, Old Man - Neil Young, 25 or 6 to 4 - Chicago
Too much talent for one man
I’m late to the party, but here are some faves in no particular order:
“Baba O’ Riley”-The Who, “For Your Love”- The Yardbirds, “That Smell”- Lynyrd Skynyrd, “Peace Sells, But Who’s Buying?”- Megadeth, “Love Alive”- Heart, “Orion”- Metallica, “Rhiannon”- Fleetwood Mac, and most of Pete’s top ten and honorable mentions.
Only those first 3.
How many cds do you own?
Great list, Pete. For two of your (and my) picks, Snowblind and Burn, let's not forget Ward and Paice. In particular, the drums in the first minute of Burn are astonishing.
Good on ya Pete. Choosing top ten all-time would be an absolute impossibility for me.
Burn. Great pick. I always thought Paice's drum work is phenomenal.
I like HOW you like Brandy and it shows how sometimes music can just take you back to an earlier time. Not many other things that can bring on that kind of nostalgia like music and nice of you to share that memory!
Seeing peoples choices in the comments is fascinating. The diversity of picks is really cool. I keep saying, oh yeah that is a good tune.
Hey Pete speaking of “ Child in Time “ have you ever considered assembling a top 10 favorite ‘ long, epic ‘ rock songs list ? Love to see that. Thinking about putting together one myself.
Stargazer !!!!!!
I thought The Coasters " Charlie Brown " would have been your favorite. Lol
😂
I gotta weigh in on this. There are tunes that you never get tired of hearing! In no particular order-
Green-Eyed Lady: Sugarloaf- original only!
Short Memory- Midnight Oil
Little Wing - Jimi Hendrix
Cold Turkey - John Lennon.
Anyway, here are some of my favourites/honourable mentions:
Who Knows - Jimi Hendrix
When the Music's Over - The Doors
Memphis Underground - Herbie Mann
Something in the Air - Thunderclap Newman

"Rainbow - The Temple of the King"
"Aerosmith - Sick As a Dog"
"Joe Satriani - Summer Song"
"King Crimson - I Talk to the Wind"
"The Shadows - Wonderful Land"
"Simon & Garfunkel - America"
Always loved Brandy as well, 100% agreed.. The drummer Jeff Grob grew up in my home town of New Providence NJ in the 1970's, and was the building handyman when I lived in Hoboken in the 80's.
Enjoying hearing your choices, disagreed with some, never heard others... the combination makes the video interesting

Amico fragile- Fabrizio De André
Comfortably Numb- Pink Floyd
Prowler- Iron Maiden
Suzanne- Leonard Cohen
Epitaph- King Crimson
House With No Doors- Van Der Graaf Generator
Loved hearing your top 10 and HMs. OMGoodness, I gotta know, Pete, how long did it take you to whittle down to these tracks? It nearly makes my head explode just thinking about trying to narrow down my list to this degree!!!
"Siberian Khatru" is probably my favorite song of all time. And the whole album "Close to the Edge" is also probably my favorite album of all time
"See Me, Feel Me" brings back such intense, but also confusing memories for me, especially the Woodstock performance.
I need to watch that video again!!)
Love ya, Man!
I´ll give you five
Deep Purple- Speed King

6. Sister Sledge - Thinking of You
7. ABBA - SOS
8. Wings - Let ‘Em In
9. Joni Mitchell - Don Juan’s Reckless Daughter
10. Donna Summer - On the Radio
Patrick Crowther Haitian Divorce is very underrated in the grand scheme of Steely Dan’s discography- my favorite song by them, very cool to see it at number 2 on someone’s list
I've always thought that Black Sabbath should've recorded 'Just my imagination' as the follow up to 'Paranoid.'
Pete, have you ever thought of posting your college project?? Would love to see the horror/SOTN mix!

Lil Dew The Soft Parade is so underrated to me! It’s like 10 songs in one and yet flows so effortlessly! Great pick!!!
Yes i agree with you.i don't like blues to much but i like Roy Buchanan too.
@@freddycee7092 He's like the Gilmour of blues. Incredible tone. Stuff like BB King, etc is very humdrum compared to RB.
