Thank you. Just got this as a Fathers Day gift and fired it up today. Used this recipe: 4 eggs Qt half and half pint of heavy cream can of condensed milk 2-3\4 cups sugar 3 TS vanilla Took about 40 minutes. The soft serve was incredible. I added Butterfingers and can't wait to try it tomorrow after it freezes.
I LOVE soft serve ice cream consistency. We used to make homeade ice cream as kids at home and you pretty much nailed the prep and the ice treatment. Great job!
Thanks so much Brad!! It really did turn out so good. I just tried it this morning and it definitely firmed up to the consistency of regular ice cream. I love both soft serve and regular. Such a good treat on a hot day! That's cool that you guys made it at home when you were kids.
Thanks for the throwback. We had one when I was a kid many many years ago. I just put one in my cart on Amazon. Kids should get a kick out of making our own ice cream.
So cool man, just like we did when I was a kid. Can’t remember much about it, flavors, how it tasted, it was more than 40 years ago though. I just remember it being a good memory, the ice, rock salt, and it took forever in kid time 🤪👊🏼💯🙂
Just got mine yesterday from Walmart. They're on sale right now for $ 19.98. You're right on the price of ingredients. Very expensive ice cream, but better tasting and no funky ingredients, ; ) P.S. Now I just need to find a woman with a milk cow, lol.
I just did exactly the same and I'm not sure I'd agree about the cost. The most expensive item is the cream. It costs under $5 at Walmart (all prices are based on Walmart brand products). It does not take the full quart (for half the serving in the recipe), so I'd say, $3.50 goes into it. Half and half is about $1.50. Let's add another $1 for sugar, salt (I used about half of the Walmart's plan salt can that goes for under 60 cents), and vanilla. I got ice from my freezer, so did not spend anything on that. Making the total about $6 (again for half the serving of the recipe). It's still more expensive than the $5 bucket of Walmart's GreatValue ice-cream (which is bigger), but not terribly bad.
My mother used to always make homemade ice cream and it was amazing. I used to have the small ice cream maker but did not have much luck with them. I searched everywhere for a small ice cream freezer because I am single, could not find one. I found a red Nostalgia ice cream freezer in Ebay, and I ordered it. It should be here the first of the week. I can not find ROCK SALT anywhere, LOL, just my luck. I read where you can use Kosher salt, I will try that. I will not make a full 4 quarts. It has been so hot here in NC, and the peaches are now coming in to SC. It is just a short drive to York, SC and get some freestone peaches. I will hopefully have some homemade fresh peach ice cream next week. My mother used to make the best homemade peach ice cream. I wish I had her recipe, but she did not have one, just this much of this and that. I am so glad I found you making ice cream in the Nostalgia ice cream freezer, now I will know how to use it. I will try your recipe and add the peaches to it and not make a full recipe.
Thank you so much for stopping by and sharing your story in regards to your mom making ice cream. This is a very easy device to use and I hope it works well for you. You can definitely get rock salt from Amazon. You may be able to use kosher salt, although I have not tried it. Just in case you want rock salt, you could either use this or look up ice cream salt on amazon. a.co/d/8TJ98Sg
@@bonniem5384 I heard that is a good replacement for when you cannot find rock salt. I think the grains of kosher salt are smaller though. At least they are with the kosher salt that I use.
It’s great that you make your own ice cream, but I think you should dish out what you are eating or tasting just in case you want to offer someone who’s visiting. Otherwise it’s fantastic. Bring me back to great memories on Sunday afternoon of my childhood. Our ice cream maker was not electric, we all children had to take turn to turn the machine, we still had a lot of fun. That was back in the years 60-70s.
I really want this ice cream maker device, but I can't buy this. Because this is not able to deliver to my country. How to make this to people outside USA? Please give me information. Thank you 🙏🙏
This brand is only sold through Walmart. If you have a Walmart in your area you might want to ask if they could order it for you. Unfortunately I do not have any other suggestions.
O! We remember the days circa 40 years ago when all Summer long Mom and Grandma churned out the best Homemade Ice Cream! Thanks for this but with the cost of ALL the ingredients, the Rock Salt! Expensive (today!) Whipping CreamS! and having room to freeze a big cylinder ETC! I'll just grab a Gallon of Krogers Butter Pecan on Sale for $2.29! These dang crooks in our govt are ruining most everyTHING! THEY can afford ice cream! Making it real REAL pricey FOR US!
My Mom used to make homemade ice cream when I was growing up too. Those were the days! It really is crazy that I can get even Dreyer's ice cream from the market and it is less than half the price it costs to make it from scratch. Not right at all. Totally agree with your assessment in regards to the crooked government. Thanks for tuning in and for your comment.
It's right around $20. I believe it's sold exclusively through Walmart. Here is the link; www.walmart.com/ip/Nostalgia-4-Quart-Electric-Ice-Cream-Maker-Blue/749542584
Don't talk with your mouth full! lol Just kidding. I just got my ice cream maker in the mail and your video made it easier to understand what the instructions were describing. I'm making black licorice ice cream. Thank you.
Success? Yes. Look at this guy literally eating out of the tub with out having to worry about putting elbows in those fiesty youngin's eyes over it! I am gonna make Buttermilk Icecream since the goddamn stores never sold it!!!! Thanks for the How to Use Review.

I was pretty happy when I was offered this cool product. Definitely worked out well.
Thanks for the info!!
Did you try the ice cream with hot sauce?🤔
I don't have any dessert hot sauce on me. If I did I would definitely try it. I may use some 16mil SHU tincture when I mix up the next batch.
Place the blue cap on container, fill ice salt, then remove blue cap and place moror on
It definitely worked well the way I did it. I literally followed their instructions. Thanks for chiming in though.
