People like to say her voice "deteriorated" when the truth is that her voice actually matured and simply changed throughout the years. The actual deterioration happened in the mid 2000s during the "Just Whitney" era when it actually gave out due to her lifestyle, and even then she had moments that would shock you.

I absolutely love this she brought her love for God EVERYWHERE she went and shared it with the world ministering with her songs even when she was improvising adding lyrics with testimony., love and miss her so much!

Even with an already damaged voice she sounded better than a lot of other female chart singers.

I've been advocating for this one for awhile. 1. The Preacher's Wife album is my favorite Whitney album, period. I love the Lord is my favorite song from that album. I love this performance really because of the beginning when she's explaining the song to the audience and the reprise when she allows her spirit to take over and she starts directing the band and background singers. This performance shows the Musician inside Whitney.

@@bridgethegapreactions I knew it wouldn't. Whitney was gospel to her very core. I've heard some say that she was a gospel singer who could sing a pop and R&B. I agree. Whitney's sound, even on pop records, is gospel.

I love all the different ways I have heard her sing this song. As far as I know, she didn't originally write this song or anything of that nature. But it honesty feels as though she was made/created for this song to me. This version especially really blessed me when I first heard it back in 2011, I believe. There isn't anything by chance, random, mistake, or coincidence when it comes to the things of GOD. ❤❤❤

This is one of her best eras vocally and performing too, so moving. From this concert I suggest a reaction to the Movie Medley (Preachers Wife/Waiting to Exhale/The Bodyguard), one of her great performances.

The Preacher's Wife era would have been Whitney's permanent voice after the natural wear and tear of time if she hadn't start smoking. Clive has said in many interviews that Whitney's vocal problems laid with her smoking cigarettes; heavily.

    • @soundseeker63
      @soundseeker63 10 місяців тому +1

Sorry but thats wishfull thinking, she had been smoking for years by the time she did Preachers Wife and although she still sang incredibly well you can clearly hear a consideable change in her voice since 1985, or even since 1991.

If you loved that, you will love the studio version even more (it is from the soundtrack to her movie The Preacher's Wife with Denzel Washington). Other 10/10 stirring gospel songs from that Soundtrack are "I Go To The Rock", "Joy" and "Hold On Help Is On The Way". For Xmas, her 10/10 song is Do You Hear What I Hear (studio version is best). And a B-Side deep cut you'll really enjoy is Dancing on a Smooth Edge.

With a song like this it's still valuable to listen to the studio performance, as that's the basis of what she's riffing from and the Georgia Mass Choir adds something special to it.

Thanks for reacting, love this song! The studio version would be good to listen to at some point, as this song and several others on The Preacher's Wife soundtrack were recorded with the Georgia Mass Choir, which really adds something. Her rendition of "Joy to the World" from that soundtrack (with the choir) is amazing, so as we approach the holidays that'd be a fantastic one, along with "Do You Hear What I Hear" as mentioned by someone else (though I prefer the live version of that one on the Tonight Show). Looking forward to seeing the WHH reaction!

My favorite track off the Preachers Wife, and probably one of the most beautiful gospel songs ever written.
Whitney always took things to a higher dimension when she sang gospel - It was her home/origin musically speaking. Even when her voice was in pretty poor condition she could still raise the roof with this one. But in this clip she's clearly in excellent voice and even sounds BETTER than her 97/98 performances of this song. It's true her voice did deteriorate quite rapidly, but that was post 2000. Listen to how she sounded live in 2002/3 vs 1999 and it's obvious something's badly wrong. I remember her revelations on that Diane Sawyer interview and her very concerning appearences on Being Bobby Brown and how it all just seemed to fall apart for her in the 2000s. It was all very, very hard to watch. The fact she managed any kind of comeback after that was really quite extraodinary.

this is not even the best version of the song, it just the version with video...the woman was too much in 1993.
If you want to hear vocals that kill listen to amazing grace Zurich 1999.. she is belting into the rafters in her proclamation of God....no one can challenge that vocal..Not only belting 10 seconds long notes from C5 to E5s she is running down as low as E3-F3..cRAZY voice...
the voice is what you call an earth quake in 1999. The lies about Whitneys voice will never endure .Only her voice will!

I think this was the show I saw in Oslo, or 1993🤔 it looks better on this video. In Oslo she ranted for 25 min about God, couldn’t remember the words to her songs and mumbled through most of ut. When she went off the deep end (in secular Norway, we think it’s weird AH) after not being able to sing up to that point, people just left. There were A LOT who left. I left also. It was sad to see her that way 😢

Again you’re here to lie. In 1993 Whitney was doing her Bodyguard tour. This song had not been released. If you’re going to lie make sure you have something that is actually not easy to prove. This song is from The Preachers Wife soundtrack which wasn’t released until 1996. So tell me how you walked out of a show with her singing this song 3 years before the soundtrack was released? Stop it. You’re making yourself look the fool.

@@jobuck879 I didn’t lie about anything. I have no idea what song she mumbled after her God&Jesus rant, just like I had no idea this song was in the movie. I hardly remember the movie 🙄 But I was at her concert, she was out of it, she didn’t remember anything and mostly mumbled. People left in the middle it was so bad. We were HUGE fans and really looked forward to it. We didn’t believe it was that bad before we saw it.

@@purpledragonfly313 Yes you did lie. You said the same lie on another one of Whitney’s videos. And I dispelled your lie there too. Whitney never did such a thing in 1993. Whitney had just had her child and was starting her Bodyguard tour. She was on top of the charts and her personal life was in a very good place. If you would have said in 1998-1999 I might have believed you but not in 1993. Stop lying to try to uplift your less than mediocre favorite Taylor Swift. Whitney in 1993 was had a phenomenal career and her personal life was the best ever. She had a number one album and number one song. Go spout your foolish lies somewhere else.
