She was a storyteller! Whitney could belt all through the song if she wanted to but she knew how to give the lyrics meaning and tell a story! She was such a powerful performer!
I so agree!! She knew how to really make you feel it! So rare.
I am a Huge Mariah Carey fan. I love her voice, but this song is far better than any of Mariah Carey's live performances. This is a real Masterclass like you said. She puts this song on a level that is higher than any person can reach. She has a Voice that no one can mimic. Love this lady
I stopped listening to the studio recording after I heard this version. Absolutely breathtaking.
Yep, I'll be reacting to the album in a couple of weeks but I can't imagine her topping this
@@bridgethegapreactions You will discover Whitney was that rare singer who sounded better live than in the studio. That's why her decline by 2000 and eventual loss of voice was so harsh and glaring.
When Her soft whispery voice is as beautiful as her powerful belts. She will be my favorite forever
Goosebumps! Her live performances are magical. Her vocal color and dynamics are gifts from heaven.
The greatest that has ever done it! Whitney voice is like God held his hands on her longer than the other singers.
FLAWLESS! The GOAT...... Hands down
A true masterclass from the one and only Ms Whitney Elizabeth Houston AKA The Voice ❤❤
I love how you talk about Whitney BTG, you're so honest and your face just lights up
Also one of my favorite of her performances. It's so heartfelt. Always makes me tear up.
This is in my top 3 songs and videos that touches my heart to tears. It memorializes what my husband and I had until he passed away.
My condolences. ❤
@@dalee72 thank you 💜
@@lindakilby2979 you're welcome. 💙
She was at her very best right then. She is missed . All the greats are xo
80s Whitney live almost had no rivals. She was something else. I hope you will get into 80s Anita Baker (live) and Luther Vandross as well. Looking forward to your take on their performances. Happy 2023. 🙏🏿
Listening to your final analysis made me realize that in retrospect the song could also be a reflection on her own life come to think of it! Her music/songs/voice is and was her art.
I love your reaction to whitney
My goodness! So so so beautiful
God I miss that voice. Whitney will always be on the top of my favorite artists!
We love you Whitney!
What a voice 😢
Mariah herself worded it perfectly when she said Whitney had the ability to wrap emotion around a lyric
I love it when she changes the arrangement and improvises. I even like it when there are tiny mistakes because you can be absolutely assured that she is performing live and that she is a human among us and not an untouchable goddess.
And this live performance from the 1987-1988 tour was used for music video for "Didn't We Almost Have It All" single
Trained by the legendary mother Cissy Houston
Didn't we, didn't we didn't we, almost have it all😮 love this live performance
Great review! More Whitney please
Always great reactions from you.
Whitney ❤️💖💖💖
Another great reaction of the one and only goat, Whitney, and I believe this song was written for her :) if you havent already, exhale(shoop, shoop) is another example of her great storytelling ability to react to. And yes, imo, she is the best live vocalist. Everything she did was intentional and magical.
Whitney's live performances are always wow
There is another version live at San Jose that allso amazing to listen
I love watching your reactions. They are so genuine and honest. It shows through clearly how these singers and the music move you. And seeing that makes it all the more enjoyable for the viewer. To see a reactor recognize the greatness of a singer is pure joy. And Whitney Houston, for me, is the greatest female singer in my life time. Hands down. I was very lucky to witness her rise to stardom. I was in college at the time, and I remember listening to the radio and she was singing her ass off. This was the first time I had ever heard her and I remember actually stopping what I was doing because her voice grabbed me. I thought, damn, who is that? I couldn’t believe her vocal ability. I was hooked from that point on. So, thank you for reacting to my favorite female singer. By the way, and I know this is not fair to ask, but, if you had to choose your favorite female singer, who would it be?
Whitney and Mariah are up there for me, now - though before I started this channel last summer I had maybe only heard one or two songs each by them. Some of my favourite female voices (not necessarily greatest singers, though some are): Karen Carpenter, Amy Winehouse, Judee Sill, Gladys Knight, Stevie Nicks, Etta James, Loretta Lynn, Dusty Springfield, Tina Turner, Aretha... I could go on!
@@bridgethegapreactions I like your list, especially Gladys knight, Aretha Franklin and Karen Carpenter. You probably already know this, but Karen Carpenter was also a drummer. Some people say she was a drummer who could sing. There are several videos on UA-cam of her drumming and singing at the same time. Not easy to do. When you have time, you should check out Bonnie Raitt and her song, I Can’t Make You Love Me. The official music video. It’s in black and white and says, Vevo. Great song, beautiful instrumentals. I know many people have done this song, but her version is the best and it was the original version. I think you would really like it.
@@bridgethegapreactions One more thought… If you are a fan of the drums, I highly, highly recommend you listen to Dire Straits and their ALCHEMY Live performance of their song, Sultans of Swing. One of the best live performances you will ever see. It HAS to be the ALCHEMY LIVE performance. Incredible drumming and of course the guitar solo is amazing. Another video well worth your time.
@bridgethegapreactions I respect your channel but mate Whitney is on a platform all on her own Mariah is more a pop singer songwriter there's noone who can tell me she could perform or interpret a song the way Whitney does
The best!
Wonderful analysis
gorgeous❤
Yes!!!!!!¡!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For me it was much better than the album version which was an emotionless, oversinging shout-fest. This performance is much more heartfelt, nuanced and sincere.
Disagree the studio version was not a shout fest that is her powerful voice
I believe she was Elvis's daughter
I cant get enough of Whitney 💜
This is my all time favorite Whitney song and performance 💫
This performance was featured at the MTV Video Music Awards, Sept 1987.
This would have been an excellent song for a young Dionne Warwick.
Do patreon members request go to the top of the line? 🙂I joined .. wink wink. I kid but seriously would like to request a reaction to Whitney Houston Love Medley - Brazil 1994. In my opinion Brazil 94 was Whitney's best concert from the 94 leg of the Bodyguard tour. And this medley sealed the deal for me. It's a blend of Didn't we almost have it all, Where do broken hearts go, and All the man I Need ua-cam.com/video/JkAS70ZA_Rg/v-deo.html
Do her “why does it hurt so bad” performance in the white pants suit. 😊
Please react to Eva Cassidy, Somewhere Over The Rainbow
Good suggestion, thanks! I've heard of her, but haven't heard anything!
Pattie LA Belle.- Some where over the Rain bow!!
@@bobbiezapata5120 the best version of it.
