  • In this video, Cathy goes through the key steps in analyzing an EKG strip: determining the heart rhythm (regular vs. irregular), determining the heart rate (small box method, big box method, 6-second strip method), analyzing the P waves, analyzing the PR intervals, and analyzing the QRS complexes.
    Our EKG Interpretation video tutorial series is taught by Cathy Parkes BSN, RN, CWCN, PHN and intended to help RN and PN nursing students study for their nursing school exams, including the ATI, HESI and NCLEX.

    Thank you! This video was so helpful. I now have a much better understanding of ecg strips. Much better explanation than my teacher provided for the different methods for counting intervals and when we would want to use them.

    Im having trouble with the inverted P wave. I see that it is inverted but how can we tell that that is the P wave and not the little bump next to it, the one right before the Q?

    Thank you for these videos! Does the 6 second method not work for regular rhythms?

    I have been watching these EKG videos and I’m trying find what a skipped or interval is. My fiancé is having heart palpitations and panic attacks regularly. She is curling up in balls and crying from chest pain. We have tried everything from hydrating, calming gummies, little to no caffeine intake, decrease in spicy or acidic foods. Her doctors aren’t pushing to help her like it’s not a big deal. I don’t know what to do. Please help 🙏

      It could be due to anxiety or stress. Maybe she has premature atrial contractions or supraventricular tachycardia which aren't usually dangerous. She can visit a cardiologist and have them do a EKG if she's concerned. But as you said limit caffeine, stress, anxiety etc

    Hi! I think around 9:20 it stated that QRS complexes should be under 0.20 seconds or under 3 boxes in width. Aren't QRS complexes supposed to be under 0.12 seconds and PR intervals under 0.20 seconds?

    • @allysathomas
      @allysathomas 2 роки тому +1

      I think what was said was that qrs complex should be less than 0.12 seonds.
      You are correct.
      pr intervals: 0.12-0.2 seonds
      qrs complex: 0.04-0.12 seconds

    What about short pr intervals?

  • @stanliemurray5587
    @stanliemurray5587 3 роки тому

    I need some clarity please. I thought that if the rhythm is regular we can use the 300 method or 6 sec method to calculate the heart rate and if the rhythm is irregular we can only use the 1500 method or 6 sec method.

    • @allysathomas
      @allysathomas 2 роки тому

      The 1500 method would not work for irregular rhythms because the intervals are different lengths. 6 sec. method needs to be used for irregular since it measures qrs complexes rather than an individual interval. When measuring one interval using 300 or 1500 method, you are assuming all intervals are the same between r waves, that why it is accurate.. Technically, you could use 6 sec. method for regular rhythm but it is less accurate. Hope this helps.

    Why do you multiply by 10 Cathy?
