    Please do more videos on this! What do you do about special occasions- Halloween, Christmas, valentines, etc. We’re coming into this season and the endless sugar just stresses me out. What if you know for a fact your kid isn’t hungry but they still beg for snacks constantly (because they love to eat and they’re just bored)? How do you push against grandparents, friends, etc constantly offering candy, and kids at school (and society) feeding the obsession? Always love to hear about other family’s food philosophies and their approach.

    Also, what are your thoughts on keeping components separate when cooking. Say the end dish is fully assembled with a sauce. If you keep the protein separate for them because you know they will eat it that way (safe food) and also serve some of the fully assembled dish to expose them to combined foods.

    Do you have any advice for adults who were raised as picky eaters? My mom would always make secondary meals, I only really liked chicken tenders, pasta, pizza, etc.. Then my parents split up, my mom became a vegetarian and my dad started KETO. So I've been around every single negative influence of eating. I have so much anxiety around food and in my adulthood I've really been exploring food more and your channel has helped me tremendously as you know!

    I LOVED this video!!🙌🏼 I have an 18 month old who is VERY picky! But it is harder for her to communicate at this young of an age. So for instance, if I serve her the same dinner we are having, and she doesn’t eat it, instead of offering her something else I should just tell her she doesn’t have to eat it but maybe offer it to her again later & not cave & give her something else?

    We always gave snacks before bed , but it had to be healthy , apples w/ peanut butter , cheese sticks and crackers , etc. and we do the same with our grandkids. Great tips thank you !

      Yes I think snacks before bed can totally be appropriate depending on the scenario!

    This was EXACTLY what I needed today! Thank you thank you!! I have a 19 month old and currently trying to navigate this the best I can.
    What is some advice or tips you can give if they just don’t want to eat their dinner at all? I try to eliminate that last snack so he’s nice and hungry, but sometimes he still won’t want the meal when it’s something that’s not really his favorite. I hate sending him to bed with an empty tummy. 😣

    Future topic I'd love to know more about: how much of what kinds of food (protein, carbs, etc) to offer them minimum each meal. I have an 11 month old, 2 tablespoons of oatmeal as their carb for a meal, 1 tablespoon of fat source, etc?
    Also, when they still seem hungry at the end of a meal what should I offer them?
    How many fruit servings a day is too much?
    Thoughts on pouches :)

    This video was great and served as a reminder not to cave into my child’s demands. He’s 4 and extremely picky and lately he runs into the kitchen and grabs snacks after I tell him he can choose to have dinner if he’s hungry which always includes a safe food. It gets stressful for sure and I hate how me trying to eliminate pickiness turns into pulling a loaf of bread from his tiny hands 😅 Feels wrong sometimes but I don’t know what else to do. My kitchen is small so hiding snacks/food isn’t really an option and he’s a pro at opening the fridge.

    @beccabristow can you do a review of some of your super old what I eat in a day vidoes? I'd be really curious to see what food philosophies of yours have changed over the years! For example, I just watched one of your videos from like, 8 years ago and it seemed like you replaced butter with olive oil on a sandwich thin, but I know you use butter now. Super interesting!

    I have an 8 month old baby boy. I do BLW with him. He eats everything we eat. He loves curries, pasta, tofu, all legumes. We cook with lots of spices and flavours. I really hope he stays this way when he gets older! I know the toddler stage they can be very picky

    Thank you for this! SO helpful! Do you have any tips for kids with food allergies/intolerances? My 2yo is allergic to eggs and tree nuts and is lactose intolerant, so often she gets a special meal because she can’t eat what my husband and I are eating. But I don’t want her to get stuck on the pasta and chicken nugget cycle and never try new things!

    Can u do a video on a weeks worth of breakfast, lunch. dinner and snacks ideas and recipes plz?
    Also i hav 4 kids 2 extremely picky eaters that are autistic that will only eat a very limited foods and 2 eaters that will eat almost anything… How do i get them to eat better? If i force them try something they dnt like they throw up but if i can disguise healthy in something they like for ex sphagetti, chicken nuggets, n etc w/o changing the flavor i can get them to eat whatever but i hav no ideas!!!
    However I need to eat healthy but dnt know how.

      Ahh yes that is tough! First let me just say you are doing a great job - feeding 4 kids is no small feat!! I know that autism can have major impacts on food acceptance and that is definitely a different scenario and I think a lot of what I shared may not apply. I wish that I had more tips/knowledge in this area to share with you but I'm just not super familiar!! I gotta think there are some RDs out there though that can give great advice on healthy eating for kiddos on the spectrum

    Hi Becca, where are you on the "how much milk and (watered down heavily) juice should my toddler have in a day?" Our 2.5 year old LOVES milk and drinks 24 ounces daily easily. Sometimes, he drinks milk and then skips meals, which has me concerned. But he's also in the 97th percentile for weight and height, and he throws SUCH a fit if we don't give him more milk when he really wants it. I really struggle with this, because he will go 2-3 days some times without eating much 'real food,' and drinks and drinks.... then eats ravenously. I've talked the pediatrician, who says to cut it back to 16 oz or less a day... but that's so hard. A video on this would be great. Or just ideas.

    What would you do if the child absolutely refused to eat the offered foods at dinner, even if exclaiming hunger? Do we allow natural consequence of hunger and strictly refrain from whipping up like a PBandJ sand which for example? I feel like my kiddo would rather be hunger than try foods other than the kid basics. I’d really appreciate your opinion and input! Thank you!

    We are more plant based but pasta and rice is definitely a favorite here lol But lastnight we had ziti and added lentils to it. I try my best to do include healthy options. My boys eat a ton of fruit, like a ton..I try to make our snacks as well so if it’s a cookie it’s at least made with oats, flaxseeds and stuff like this.
    I do the “take a bite of this or that” may I ask how that interferes with their own body? If my oldest is asking for more of the rice or pasta, I do this with the other food on his plate. I’m genuinely curious. I never ask them to finish their plates since it was this way for me and wasn’t healthy for me personally. We hardly have dessert but once in a while we would do them but more during the day other than before bed.

      Sounds like you're doing great!! So if there is a lot of emphasis on one food in order for a child to be granted access to another food, it can actually create more dislike for the first food. For example, "eat your vegetables so you can have dessert" can make children dislike vegetables more than they normally would because they *have* to eat it in order to get what they really want. I know this isn't the exact scenario you're talking about tho! If it were me I would probably say something like "oh you still have lots of other food on your plate" casually and if they persist about wanting more rice, pasta, etc I would probably get some more for them!

    At what age do u suggest to start these boundaries? I have a 14 month old...and sometimes he doesn't want what I make so I end up going to the fridge and getting his chicken and rice that I know he loves. So at what age do they start to learn, oh I don't have to eat what was made cause mom will just go get what I want??

    The only time I ask my kids to take bites is if for example my 4yo has inhaled nothing but rice and hasn’t touched anything else on her plate and asks for more rice, I ask her to try something else on her plate while I’m getting her more rice.

      Yep that's a great way to approach it! Saying they are welcome to have more of the dinner later if they are hungry, instead of a snack

    What if you have children who are underweight. Very tiny. I'm tiny too so some is genetics but if we don't encourage one of my kids simply won't eat for days. And if they only have 1 bite thry need more than that.

      Oh yes. Kids need to be exposed to new foods 20+ times for them to possibly accept it. I can't tell you how many times my daughter has told me she doesn't like peppers lol but they are still always are on her plate, and I just tell her she doesn't have to eat them if she doesn't want. I'm focused more on exposure than her actual acceptance!

      I think most objections to it center around the fact that it often has quite a bit of sugar. I don’t like it myself but I hear this about the sugar a lot.

      Haha nothing! I'm all for condiments. I do try to purchase ketchup that is made with real sugar..a lot are made with HFCS and if it's something my kids are eating daily/often I wouldn't want it to be that.
