    Grab a cup of coffee or tea and let's chat nutrition! In today's video I'm chatting all about a very relevant nutrition topic - how to eat for NOURISHMENT, instead of in a context of dieting. I see sooo many people struggle with this, and it's time to set the record straight! I want you to stop dieting (you may not believe you're on a diet, but I'm willing to bet you secretly are) and start actually nourishing your body. If you follow the 3 principles for healthy eating I lay out, you will be well on your way to a life of food fulfillment & body nourishment!

    THIS was the PERFECT summary of nourishment. I've tried so many different diets/ways of eating the past 10 years and only recently came back to exactly what you are describing and it's so helpful to have that affirmation amidst the many other messages. I think the top things that I misunderstood were: supporting metabolism, the role of carbs and macro and mineral nutrient balance. Would love to hear more about any and/or all of these! THANK YOU for this content.

I used to eat so much less and never lost weight but when I started eating healthy and listening to my body and also enjoying foods I love in moderation it really does work and you also feel better! Also! My sourdough starter is on day 7 and I’ve started a loaf of sourdough bread!!! So excited to see if it comes out good!

    I loved this video! You explain everything so well.
    I love learning about nutrition and with all the information out there everything gets so overwhelming and confusing but I loved your explanations.
    Would love more videos like this about nutrition and food pairing at meal time!
    Also, do you have any videos on nutrition for kids? My kids (3 & 1.5 years) seem to only want to eat their carbs and sometimes their protein. What tips do you have to help them eat more balanced?
    They definitely seem to go through phases but I want to better equip myself to teach them.
    Thank you so much for your videos! I’m so happy to have found you! ❤

    I did keto for 4 years. When I could no longer sustain that way of eating (because I got unwell) I struggled so much with eating carbs again. It gave me a real issue with foods. I still do intermittent fasting and definitely over enjoy that breaking my fast meal. Thank you so much for all this information. I’ll be rewatching this over and over so I can take it all in.

    Really informative video. Thanks for sharing.
    I suffer from headaches and migraines since I was a kid. At 27 I figured out that added sugar gives me the severe migraines (throwing up,sensibility to light and sound). With each pregnancy I had (2) my sensitivity to sugar got worse. Now I get headaches from pretty much any carb I eat.Thankfully are not migraines. Sometimes I “cheat” and have about 1/4 of a banana or 5-7 cherry or something like that. If I’m lucky and not get headache from this tiny amount of carbs, my face is getting puffy.
    Dr. decided to put me to on prevention medication for migraines, but in the meantime I was trying different diets ( how I figured out that the carbs were responsible for my headaches and puffiness) to see how can avoid a life time on pills.
    Now I eat pretty much like a keto diet. It’s the only one that helps me not to have headaches or migraines. In 2 years on this diet I didn’t lose any weight and my blood sugar is still pretty high (95-115). Dr can’t really help me because being on this restricted diet for so long my blood work is in normal range.

    I have zero desire to eat junk at all. I’ve never felt so good in my life. I have so much energy and confidence now. I’m dreading going to visit some family because they eat awful and I don’t want to do it. What is the best way to approach that? I thought about pre making meals and eating that when we are there. I’m mostly anxious because no one around us supports healthy eating and basically laugh at us for wanting to be non-toxic and cutting out all the bad things. The bad things don’t taste good anymore and make me feel sick.

    I agree with what you are saying. I have interstitial cystitis and IBS which means I have many foods and drinks that I can’t eat like chocolate, dairy, whole wheat and spicy foods including tomatoes so it has made me develop a bad relationship with food, and since I literally can’t have it I crave it and cave in and eat it. I will actually over eat like you said. Then I am sick taking meds to try to cover up my symptoms. It is a horrible cycle to be in. It would be much easier if I could eat it in moderation. In my case it is bad for me so it is hard to not tell myself it is not bad. Sometimes telling myself this is not nourishing for my body and will make me sick helps and sometimes it don’t.😢

    • @BeccaBristow
      @BeccaBristow  10 місяців тому +2

      This is definitely tricky to navigate! The way I look at it: one of the main principles of nourished eating is to eat to fuel your body & feel your best. If there are certain foods that don't make you feel your best, you're probably going to want to avoid them mostly. BUT - how you approach this situation mentally makes all the difference. Let's say you want chocolate....YOU have the power, not the chocolate. It's just a food. So it's a shift of "chocolate is bad for me, I can't have it." to "I can have it if I want it. But do I want it? Do I want the negative side effects that come with it today?" YOU are in control, you get to call the shots. Some days you may say you know what I want it and I'll deal with the cons. Other days you may feel like ehh not worth it. When you take the power away from the food, it becomes less enticing. You may find you are completely satisfied with something else sweet that doesn't cause you any discomfort. That's empowered, intuitive eating :) Hope this makes sense!

    Becca I have followed your content for so many years and it’s my favorite place to come here on UA-cam. I am a Registered Nurse in Texas and have seen first hand what our current health care system has to offer and it’s not sustainable for people. With that being said, I’ve been thinking of different paths of helping people in my community where I can have a bigger impact in lifestyle choices. Would you recommend someone with a RN license to go back to become a RD? I know people complete nutrition classes but I don’t feel there is a standard since there are so many. I have looked into IFN Academy for functional nutritional eduction. I could use any guidance that you may have for someone in my shoes! I feel so lost in how I can help people best with food and disease prevention vs the reaction system we use today. Thank you!!!!

    • @alishadhs4

      In order to lose weight you need to consume less calories than you burn.

    • @BeccaBristow
      @BeccaBristow  10 місяців тому

      I would encourage you to shift your mindset - to let go of a certain weight goal and instead focus on instilling healthy, sustainable behaviors overall. Nourishing foods, listening to your body, movement, stress mgmt, finding balance/satisfaction without bingeing etc. This is not necessarily the easier road - it's much easier to diet or restrict and lose a certain amt of weight, but that won't last in the long term. We focus so heavily on weight when it is so much more out of our control than we are led to believe (imagine trying to change your height...you wouldn't.) Weight CAN fluctuate and it is possible to be overweight, but the way I look at it is this - if you are truly taking care of yourself (doing all the things I mentioned above) then your weight at that point is your body's preferred weight and where you are meant to be.

I feel like I have been trying this for so long and no matter the weight, it’s just easy to reference, I am not healthy or happy with the way my body feels and functions. I also have PCOS and my life style used to be very active when now I’m home with 3 kids (my husband is home evenings and weekends but very tired) and I feel like I’m constantly stressed and having to give all of myself to others. So I’ve been trying to take care of myself as suggested but then have times when I’m completely overwhelmed and just do what I have to do to get by and notice I turn to food sometimes for stress relief but isn’t that listening to my body? If my body is telling me to eat cookies and I do should I not worry about that or is that not good?

      I know excercise has become one of the top treatment modalities for ADHD... wondering about how nutrition might help give an edge.

    So, how do you lose body fat without losing muscle? How can you eat so your body selects fat stores rather than muscle mass?

      Autumn Bates here is a nutritionist and makes great videos about intermittent fasting (no extremes at all) and nourishing your body while helping achieve a weight loss goal. Super helpful!

      I think she mentions it is impossible to have your body be selective to burn fat vs muscle stores and it always happens at the same time. My guess would be to aim to lose weight slowly and by incorporating some form of strength training? Maybe you will get a response!

    its very hard to know what is actually healthy with so much conflicting information out there - there must be a way to safely lose weight if you need to and also, how can there be so many different opinions on what is healthy - one Dr. says carnivore is the healthiest diet citing all the substances in plants that are harmful and of course the vegan doctors continue to say dairy and meat will kill you. i literally don't know what to eat anymore.

      There are so many conflicting opinions because: EVERY body is different. Someone may thrive on veganism while most others will become malnourished overtime. This is why I encourage people to try out new things but LISTEN to your body and pay attention to how you feel. There is no one size fits all. Never will be. Which is why eating intuitively with thoughtful nourishment (actually understanding/applying nutrition, eating quality real food etc) is the only way to be a) healthy & satisfied in the long term and b) free from the endless cycling of dieting
