Get a good shop vac put the hose as close to the entrance as possible before they get active in the morning. Put water and dish soap in the vac bucket before starting which will assist with eliminating all vacuumed up wasps. Just a suggestion.

Good suggestion on the soapy water in the shop vac - will give that a shot.

Bifen IT and Tempo early morning or late night. Sometimes you cannot burn. Never tried diesel, but Bifen IT and Tempo - does the job quickly, Tempo is the best in my opinion. Always carry a can of wasp spray in case you need to spray any active flying ones.

Foam em, you don't have to get to close.

John and Mason, PLEASE be careful around these wasps. I got stung once on my head and it was enough to put me off wasps. And I thought before you said it, look out for little Bean! He'd definitely be a goner and Rocco would be in a bad state too. I don't feel bad about you guys using nuclear means to get rid of them, they're nasty. By the way, little boys run screaming too, not just little girls.

I was sore for a while from the multiple bites for a couple days - that was a weird group of wasps for sure - I've never had a nest that was soooo aggressive. The good news is we took suggestions from many of the comments here and the nest is no more. I feel a bit bad because they are beneficial to the environment, but this group just had to go.

I am guessing there is a very large nest beneath the surface. Spraying them only kills the ones directly in line/contact with spray. There is hundreds if not a thousand below the surface and the ones out foraging that you are not spraying. Also - you ALWAYS (😅) spray at night when they have settled down. You may want to (at night) clear away the debris so you can see a defined hole/entrance. The next night shove a garden hose in all the way (do not clog the hose) and turn it on for a while. They say you can pour very soapy water down the hole too.

Good advice (the night thing) - at this point they are on alert - can't even get within 20 feet of the nest without getting attacked. Sheesh. I'll try to garden hose thing as well.

Please keep in mind that this is a "G" rated channel. You should at least warn viewers before the Terrifying Monster appears at 7 min 3 sec! Did Hank and Sam book for the hills because of the wasps? 🥰
You have all these other signs up, you should have put up a sign "No Wasps Vacancy" and "Wasps Not Allowed!"
P.S. I'm glad you impressed yourself with piling the logs!

Mason definitely had a look going there - road warrior style. I know it's silly about the wood, but I was quite proud of that ...

I had a massive colony near my apple trees in the garden. Wait until night, full bottle of sunlight dish soap, then garden hose at full throttle. No stings, no more wasps

Diesel fuel down the hole, nothing lives inside diesel

We used old gas that we had - hated to do it because of the environmental impact, but it was the only thing that worked at the end of the day.

@ that is the thing about diesel and gas it originally came from the Earth and it has a smaller impact than what you think. I was a Roughneck for years and I still use it for numerous reasons

My sister in Fla has a nest in the thick brush close to the house, she keeps spraying but can't get close enough to find exactly where "their" home is, or is it actually in the ground? She's can't find anyone to come locate and kill them either!

I'm trying all kinds of stuff but they are winning the battle at this point - they have posted sentries so as soon as I get anywhere near the nest they attack - crazy aggressive. I may have to call an exterminator. We'll see after today.

Normally yellow jackets are the aggressive ones
Wasp have always been laid back. But these mat be a different breed. You have no choice but to spray them. And some will.move on.

Confirmed that these were yellow jackets - we did spray and they are no more - sad, but had to happen.

You are wishful thinking if you think they are going to move. There are hundreds of them under ground and they have a queen making hundreds more of them.

    • @hanks_backyard
      @hanks_backyard  2 місяці тому

When we finally were able to dig up the (dead) nest, it was pretty big - like basketball size - and you're right, no way to move them without professional equipment - gone now thankfully.
