  • In conjunction with the Lexington Historical Transportation Group, on October 31st, 2015, Halloween, the Bennett Levin Pennsylvania Railroad E8As ran an Office Car Special ( OCS ) called "The Jersey Devil" utilizing the Northeast Corridor, P&H Branch, the National Docks, Garden State Secondary / Chemical Coast, North Jersey Coastline, Amboy Secondary, Port Reading Secondary, and Lehigh Line. This run was due in part with the Lexington Group's convention that was held in Newark, NJ. Myself along with many friends managed to get this train running somewhere along those several listed lines. I managed to shoot at every line along the way, and bagged 20+ locations in total, including Newark, Port Reading, South Amboy, Parlin, Sayreville, East Brunswick, Spotswood, Helmetta, Jamesburg, and South Plainfield. Special thanks to Chris Healy for assisting in most of today's driving. Enjoy!

Those streamlined diesel locomotives of the 30s 40s and 50s were/are so much nicer than the ones built since! I wish they would start making them again.

That Pennsylvania Railroad scheme with the huge lettering makes these majestic units seem a mile long each. And, you could see your reflection in that squeaky clean, glossy paint. Beautiful engines running at a nice speed over good track.

Reminds me of the L&N “ Hummingbird “ from Cincinnati to Louisiana. Rode it in the mid 50s!

I grew up in that area. I know every bit of those tracks well. Used to fish off the bridge in the East Brunswick shot.

Who wants to see these beauts running on an excursion with the NS F units along the NS system? Loved the video!

Great job. Production quality is every bit as good as these legacy locomotives deserve. Thank your for sharing this joyous revival with those of us who could never see them in person.

Agreed! If I had a dime for every Saturday and Sunday that my best friend, Stan, and I would spend in that wonderful, old station. It was back in the early 1960's that we both first saw---and fell in love---with our first GG-1! Who-hoo, what a treat that was! We'd watch the old "Hudson Tubes" For being kids of 12 yeas of age, those GG-1's were soooo dang tall and big. Yeah, I know that this is not a video of the GG's, but it opened with a view of Penn Station. Still looks great, even after 60+ years. Thanks so much for posting this video!!

Beautiful photo shots! I have to wonder, was that line electrified at one point? I live near where it connects to the NEC and seeing all the catenary poles relatively intact makes me think.

Some great shots particularly the second one of it going over the crossing from side on. It's a pity about those ditch lights they kind of spoil it but then, that's the modern era for you!

Interesting that they didn't run on the Jamesburg branch and rejoin the NEC at Monmouth Jct. Sweet catch on this one! I had my scanner turned off because I was cleaning up leaves in the yard so I didn't hear So. Jersey giving him track warrrants. Otherwise, I would have made it to Jamesburg.
