In 1970 Cal Tech in California opened a new auditorium and Terry Riley gave the inaugural performance there. As he plays the space clarifies and becomes a Pure Land. You aren't bored or in a hurry. The music just keeps returning your purr to the smiling wow of a meow.
This is Terry's greatest piece. A work of transcendent beauty that connects you with pure undifferentiated consciousness and infinite bliss. Perfect for listening to whilst meditating in nature or at the peak of a psychedelic experience.
My mom always says that I was a mellow baby and little kid.. I think it had to do with all the trippy music and medical lecture recordings that were playing the whole time. Lucky me! Music is good for kiddos.
Genial poder escuchar en este medio la obra, y gracias! Terry Riley un grande que sirvió de inspiración a muchos géneros noveles, tal cual la danza de los derviches sirios, pura profundidad interminable..
Nice arrangement of vibrations. My cats like it as well. I am hearing SO MANY pieces of this that have been stolen, er, sampled by a lot of house music dj's etc.

Thanks for the tips. Checking all this out plus Lustmord's "Heresy." It's all interesting but so far nothing I'd put on the same level as this Riley piece. You have to remember this was way before computers were being used. He had a special keyboard made in just intonation, then he played these pieces over and over until, I believe, he had reached a peak of technique in this live recording. Then he moved on. It's hard to know the extent of his influence but I'm pretty sure relatively few Americans realize his importance.
Indeed. Terry was inspired to create his first great work "In C" while riding on the bus through San Fransisco while in the throes of his first LSD experience.
Quote: “At the time [in university] I was listening to and aspiring to be like (Karlheinz) Stockhausen,” Hisaishi tells The Japan Times. “But then I encountered Terry Riley’s ‘A Rainbow In Curved Air,’ and I was simply shocked by it. This was the ‘modern music’ that I was to move toward. I realized that I could express myself better this way, and so I switched to minimalist music over the next two or three years.” Source: www.japantimes.co.jp/culture/2016/06/02/music/composers-joe-hisaishi-philip-glass-team-special-performance/
You too? When I first heard A Rainbow in Curved Air, I had just recently watched Nausicaa and the interplay between these two creative masterpieces greatly enhanced my appreciation for both of them.
@@shoopdawoop111 yeah thanks it's interesting to see that both nausicaa and this album share the same style of music. it's like a homage album for both artists and it's cool that both artist had the same vision of music
@@fieldomoss the Hisaishi fansite hibikihajime has setlists for some early concerts where he seems to have actually played a rendition of Rainbow in Curved Air (and he homaged the title for his own song A Rainbow in Curved Music, though it doesn't have much of a Riley sound)
In this music does not float an atmosphere of mist conducive to dreams and sweet drifts. An atmosphere of diaphanous peace that we sometimes feel without knowing exactly why during certain summer days! these artists do not build a discourse of interiority, of breathing, which knows how to make room for repair silence and it's a pity🤡🕊

This feels like the Yang to the Yin of “Coil - Time Machines”

Some days this is my favorite work by Terry Riley. Today it is.
I totally agree.
The frequencies make me almost queasy with hypnotic resonant peaceful joy.
Boomshanka.. welcome aboard 💥💥💥🛸🛸🛸
I love the way he turns them on a dime. Those transitions are exquisite
Those voicing shifts and also the rotational movements a la Leslie Speaker or something similar are pure magic
i just find it unbelievable a human can play so consistently nonstop for so long, keeping it perfectly continuous and interesting the entire time
he used tape loops like a moderne loop pedal.
uses tape loops to keep that feeling.
sometimes called a tape loop
This fulfills a craving in my brain. It's like therapy right now. I really gives me something in my mind nothing else seemed to do for months now.
When my little baby is having a meltdown on goes Terry, calms her down her treat. Thanks for the great work x
Thanks for the good parenting tip, Musky.

Great album. I've still got this on vinyl from the 80's.
Vibrates my head into a cosmic solstice. Thanks
If you like this check out Suzanne Ciani's early buchla works and the pre 2000's albums the Woo brothers made.
My personal favorite of his is this masterful performance. It builds so impeccably.
This album is incredible. It snaggles my focus and holds me the whole time.

I think this is a result of psychedelic experience..
