The Packers continue to see improvement in each of their young wide receivers. Christian Watson is healthy, Romeo Doubs had an “outstanding” spring practice, Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks added to their toolboxes while training together this offseason and Bo Melton is building on his impressive end to the 2023-24 NFL season. As expected, this is a deep and talented position group with a chance to see real improvement and even more production in 2024. On the other side, the Packers are increasingly confident in what they’ve built at cornerback, especially considering the return of Eric Stokes, the improvement of Carrington Valentine in Year 2 and the refocused nature of our All-Pro cornerback Jaire Alexander. The NFL is such a passing dominated league, and the Packers feel very good about where they are at 2 hugely important position groups within the passing game. They could be 5-6 deep at both receiver and cornerback entering the 2024-25 NFL season. I’m really looking forward to it. Go Pack Go 💚💛
What I like is Brian Gutekunst knows all this and was all in this offseason when he signed Josh Jacobs and Xavier McKinney. He’s being aggressive and trying to win a championship now on the cheap before the tough decisions have to be made.
No they didnt... Ted drafted Rodgers and 6 years later he won... this is year number 6 for guetty and if we are being honest, only year 5 from having his guy, and year 2 of having his roster.
@@Nightwing300 Brian Gutekunst has this team set up to be competitive for years to come. This isn’t Favre or Rodgers NFC north. This could very well be the best division in football. All the Packers receivers bring a little different skillsets. With that being said, if I had to choose one guy who exhibits the most true #1 receiver type traits, I'm taking Dontayvion Wicks without question. His ability to create separation in a phonebooth as well as his strength at the catch point and YAC ability are what #1 receivers are made of.
@@DreH3200 Yeah our WR hierarchy is a VERY interesting discussion. I like Doubs but I think I like Reed better, and I like Wicks too! I just think that Watson has top 5 in the league in him if he’d a stay healthy.
Its a real luxury that 'who will be WR1" is a live debate - not something we envisaged having only a year ago when this cheesehead was staring into the long term rebuild abyss
All-in-all it's a great problem to have. The entire receiving core (WR, TE & RB) is definitely a problem for opposing defenses. Injuries are bound to happen, the "next man up" mentality has to go into full effect.
When the time comes, the Packers will probably trade some of their WRs for draft picks. I wouldn't be so quick to throw Watson to the side because he's still the biggest deep threat on the Packers. And even though he played in only 9 games in 2023, he still had the 2nd most TDs on the team.
He was at 3rd most behind Reed and doubs, and if you want to include postseason he ties for 4 with wicks with Aaron jones leaping them. Wicks was just as impressive in a similar limited snap count. Not trying to diminish Watson, but just pointing out what actually happened.
I am also confident that the Packers will continue to make more good draft picks at WR in the future. 1 thing im not worried about is the Packers ability to draft more good talent. WR and RB is one of the easier positions to draft in comparison to the others.
We have all heard of running back by committee.....the Packers are doing wide receiver by committee....very smart in my mind!!! Each one has their strengths and if one is hurt they have great backups too!!
I agree though, they are either hogging to go corner or pass rusher in round 1 next year and then go offense heavy the rest of the draft like they did a couples years back. And then we can get a corner or pass rusher in free agency and then this team will be a truly elite roster for the first time I can remember on both sides. If we trade Preston Smith for the best pass rusher on the market next year and then go corner In rd 1 there officially will be no holes on defense. Then if we can keep the offense together they will be elite already by next year so whatever they add will be icing on the cake
slight problem with the the getting paid aspect of having 4 #1s. their stats will be the number 2 on any other team which means either a team has to gamble that that player can be a true #1 anywhere else or they all get paid like #2s because their individual stat line mandates it. WR1s get paid the way they do because they either 1 they completely change defensive strategies or the gap between 1 and 2 is so great their production is that of 2 Wrs.
With a year under their belts, the Packers have a good receiving corps. A healthy Watson might be the difference between a good receiving corps and a great one! If you had to sign one to keep him around, Doubs would seem the obvious choice.
Packers know what their doing. They will play hard ball with all of them and who ever wants to be team friendly will be there ling term. If you want to be paid more then see ya later. If all these guys are 700- 900 yard guys then nobody will be getting the bank in GB
