    I started making fry cages out of dollar store plastic slotted trays. A hot glue gun plastic mesh and a couple of Styrofoam floats. It gives them a safe zone I put it right in the floating weeds. The whole idea came from Charles Goliad farms with his cichlid hotels-fry cages.
    I was netting the babies out when I saw a batch guppies are fine this way. Swordtails were the reason to design build these fry cages. Swordtails are fast and hunt their babies. Even the babies are hard to net. I never can tell when they are ready to drop fry so removal of the female is out. This is the next best fix. I have a 20high the fry go into 1st. Then they get moved to a 29 to grow up if they don't become breeders. I wish I had a big 300 gallon tub I could put in the garage with big heaters. Love the guppies they come right up to me I can cup my hand they swim right in my fingers.

    Those are some gorgeous guppies. There's so many new strains that I can't keep up with all of them. It's like all of those "designer" breeds of dogs. It gets so confusing 🤪. I do have one question about the substrate in a few of the tanks. I get the natural tank with the dirt substrate. BUT why leave all of the little twigs and tiny tangled little root balls? IDK what else to call them? They're really small and fuzzy. 🤷 Won't the tails and fins get snagged up on them? Oh they're floating on the top of the water to. I'm still learning but I can't see any benefits to them being in the tank.???

    • @LRBaquatics
      @LRBaquatics  Рік тому

      Its about as natural as it gets. A lot of that can break down over time helping create and feed a natural food web. Not the reason I really use it since theres many ways to do that. But I personally love how it looks. To me it looks a lot more natural. One of my new aquascaping techniques ;)

    • @cathyhendrix7552
      @cathyhendrix7552 Рік тому

      @@LRBaquatics Ahhhh. So it is beneficial. It does break down. I guess it's like nature's root tabs? I would rather not put chemicals in my tank if I don't have to. Thank you for the info. See? We never quit learning.

    I like em...! I still have the best black Moscow's in the state though...! Of coarse that's my opinion because they're mine, but I also sell them to 3 local stores who have told me the same thing...! My bluegrass whatever could use some help though...! My best sellers are called tin foil guppies, they site do stand out in the right light...! I don't think I've a favorite, except for my best sellers, which are the tin foils, then the black Moscows...! Thanks, keep up your awesomeness and go enjoy some nature today...!

    Wow! I actually got the cyan colored guppies just a couple of weeks ago. The male unfortunately died but the female is pregnant and has already given birth to 12 fry and her belly is still very big so she might get more. I just hope that the female was not paired with other guppies and that the fry will be cyan too :D

    • @LRBaquatics
      @LRBaquatics  Рік тому

      Hmmm not sure how.... im not doing anything special at all. Just tank, dirt/sand, and water. Key is biologically sound water and with Guppies they need mineralization.

    • @twin2482
      @twin2482 Рік тому

      @@LRBaquatics I watch your videos where you show tanks without air but I am still perplexed.

    • @LRBaquatics
      @LRBaquatics  Рік тому

      @@twin2482 hmm I’m not sure how else I can explain it. I can’t make it any more complex. I’m have done this with tons and tons of guppies. You even see the ones in the small qt containers that will even breed out in them. No substrate. The key is knowing your water really I guess… and or where you get your fish. I don’t medicate either. Immunity support is more important then trying to medicate new fish. I literally just let nature nature.

    • @twin2482
      @twin2482 Рік тому

      @@LRBaquatics I am not challenging you or the concept. Have you ever measured/compared the O2 level in aerated and non-aerated tanks? Being a data person, not knowing how much above the "critical" O2 level in the non-aerated tanks might be the reason.

    • @LRBaquatics
      @LRBaquatics  Рік тому

      @@twin2482 No worries I’m just trying to help and maybe come up with a solution. I’m a solutions guy lol. I have never needed to measure it since it’s never been a problem. Now if you wanted to overpack the tank to a ridiculous amount then oxygen can be helpful. It’s not that it’s not helpful but it’s also not necessary in most people’s situations. Our science and understanding of the relation between it imo is merely ours as in humans interest in the gas of oxygen. I think it’s more of a psychological data point as in to why we think they need it. In fact flow is more important than the supplement of excess oxygen.
