This video is amazing. You gave multiple different examples instead of just one tank. THank you SO MUCH! I don't think i've found a better video for this topic anywhere....for years of searching on youtube!
So many fry thrive in green water algae filled tanks. That's where you find them in nature. If you want to breed healtyh fry, let the tank go wild. I'm so glad you share these experiences with folks. 👍❤️👍
I think your approach to fishkeeping/breeding is brilliant mate, your creating indoor ponds which is great for your breeding, my baby bettas live on infusoria, daphnia, cyclops and its all out my mini ponds with only plants n plenums in them and some endlers & shrimps & snails, natures great, cheers from Scotland 🏴
All your tanks are awesome, u never have to defend them but thank you for explaining none the less as I'm sure it did help many fish keepers either with why their own tank may look the same way as one of yours and also why its okay they look that way for any clear water ocd fish keepers as well lol. Knowledge is power ty for sharing ❣🐠
Took a long time for myself to figure out how to do this, but now I'm figuring it out. I'm now up to 3 filterless tanks and yes the tanks are not pretty but the fish are living their best life. thank you
Thanks Lucas. If I have to water change in my tanks, I put a bucket under the hose. It catches the mulm and eggs and let's the water go. Have a great day 👍💚
Awesome video and great work on the new fish room. Love the knowledge and insight that you share. The only filters I use are sponge filters that I put in when I first started the tanks. Anyway awesome stuff @lrb
I was having trouble with what I assume was spot algae even though I filled up the tank with about 7 different species of algae eaters. Then when I put in some frogbit for a top plant and a hide for babies all the algae disappeared. I am curious if you think it might also out compete the hair algae? Great video by the way. I love that you are working on trying things a different way than most people think you have to do.
Thanks! and Yes plants can out compete the algae. Whatever excess that spot algae was growing on must of gotten consumed by the frogbit. Frogbit being a fast grower helps speed up the process. Slow growing plants usually are prone to collecting algae since they have the opposite effect. Ive also seen bacopa fight biofilm over night. Many aquarium plants we have even hold medicinal values and much more.
It grows over time feeding off decaying material like plant leaves, detritus, fish food, poop, and more. By not doing water changes the oxidation doesnt break it up so it grows and grows. Strong light helps as well.
Great video, my 75 gal has turned cloudy but there's not a lot of fish in the tank so what else could cause it when I have 3 of each in the tank, zebra danio's, mollies nerite snails Cory albino catfish & plenty of plant's through out the tank & haven't done anything to in a month.
@@LRBaquatics even with a ugf? cause the substrate is pea gravel & a thick layer of river rock that what ever decides to have fry can. I do feed freeze dried shrimp in powder & pellets that may be the culprit, but it's cleaning up now.
Embrace the Swamp. I let my new tank swampify as part of processing out excess nutrients. All that natural processing _keeps_ the minerals in the system, longer than if I had water-chaned it to death👍
You need some amano shrimp for tanks you don't want the green blobs of hair algae. I barely maintenence my tanks other than water changes every 10-14 days. The algae does look cool in that second tank!
They can help but they arent good for breeding tanks since they can eat eggs too. Plus would need a ton of them for all my algae lol. Algae the most universal plant and is welcome in my fish room. Many have asked to buy it I may just have to make a listing for it someday. I have kept amanos and they are good to use like scuds to salvage plants that may have been over run by algae. I have also seen amanos dig and tunnel in my dirted tanks. There was some stuff in it they must have loved cause they turned all the dirt upside down. It was pretty wild.
Can you tell me about the black hard algae covering the glass? I have heard about the po4 and now wondering if that's why I have been having bad growth. I was keeping it because I like how it was covering the back glass
Not entirely sure what you mean without a pic. Also hard to tell with nutrient deficiencies since a lot of plants get what they need from water change. Bad growth can often come from the lighting and lack of water changes. Plants love water changes because of the reoxygenation.
Get some grass clippings and throw them in your tank then over time algae and or green water will feed off it as it breaks down. Bright light helps as well.
Substrate is usually my yard dirt or sand. I just released a video on setting up 16 new guppy tanks. If you type in LRB aquarium setups you will get lots of vids.
Usually sulphur gives that smell. If your tanks smells and it’s not your well water or water source that smells then something is wrong. Filter free tanks shouldn’t smell bad if anything they should have more earthy smell. Sometimes things that die or decay can cause a smell? Hard to tell without knowing more on your situation
,I want to go all in to natural tanks I set up a 5liter jar ,,it got rotten egg smell , ,soil sand little plants ,it had life microbes ,no fish , so until I can understand what causes it to smell I carnt go forward ,love how natural your tanks are, love to see them more
Ropefish aquarium (and the one above) looks amazing, not many aquascapers could do that. Just clean front glass and it can be aquascape magazine cover.
That’s a great question. They come from a multitude of places but just from the air and mana around us holds a lot of life we to not usually think of. You can get a bucket of water and put it outside and life will find a way. It’s wild.
How cheap is Tetra that does not sponsor your channel? On the other hand, when I think about it. I Have never heard of any channel being sponsered or even making a video with Tetra! 😄
@@LRBaquatics I was tolkning to them about making a video for them. I mean I bought 3 big Fluval 2.0, and 7 Fx6 filters within 3 years. And A Fluval Edge. Hey LRB I'm interested to know in the first tank with hair moss.. how do you get it to grow so thick and cover most areas of the tank ?
It grows over time feeding off decaying material like plant leaves, detritus, fish food, poop, and more. By not doing water changes the oxidation doesnt break it up so it grows and grows. Strong light helps as well.
Thanks I really appreciate the information

Lucas, might sound crazy but how can I grow that yucky algae and green water?
Get some grass clippings and throw them in your tank then over time algae and or green water will feed off it as it breaks down. Bright light helps as well.
@LRB Aquatics -Aquarium Collector do you boil the clippings or just dump them in?
Any special kind of grass my neighbor has some called reflections..
