Kilombero sugar is planning to inject 240 million USD in sugar production that would make it one of the largest Agriculture investment in East and Southern Africa.
The use of advanced technology should be associated with improved productivity, reduced cost of production and marketing of sugar. The expected impact is the readily availability of the product to consumers at affardable price. Considering the majority of the local population has low income. Sugar producing firms be it Kilombero, Mtibwa, Kagera, TPC, Bagamoyo or even Mkulazi should reduce prices and avoid to sell sugar in cartels. Otherwise, it better for the Government to allow business people to import sugar from Malawi, Zambia, Kenya or even from Brazil where sugar is cheaper than yours.
