    That turned out great! I love the Daniel Smith granulating colors and really like them on hot press paper. At first I was skeptical about using hot press for them because I thought I needed the 'tooth' of the cold press for the granulation to hold onto. But that isn't quite true. While they do look good on cold press, i love the dreamy effect you can get with hot press, which really shines in your sky. Very nice!

    This is the perfect video that I was looking for. I wanted to paint the landscape with granulating paint so I ordered it(It's on the way). I wanted to see how it reacts differently than the paints that I have. Because I notice some of the heavy pigment show that effect. I have a single pigment cobalt Turquoise Hue(PB28) it makes that effect beautifully too. I didn't know transparent yellow ochre does that too. I should try that. Thank you for sharing.

    I love this painting, but I am not getting the level of granulation desired even though I am using the same paints, mixing thick and spritzing. 1st try was on 140 lb cotton hot press, 2nd try was on 140 lb cotton cold press, 3rd try was on 300 lb cotton cold press. Not sure what I am doing wrong. Maybe I should have tested techniques on small pieces of paper to see what would have given me a better result. I ended up adding transparent red oxide to my 3rd paiting to produce more color depth.

    What paint colors for beginners do you suggest?

    • @JeanLurssen
      @JeanLurssen  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Roberta. It really depends on what type of art you want to pursue. Some artists like bright colors and others prefer the more muted hues. I would suggest you checkout different artist's work and decide which appeals to you, only then will you know what basic colors to start with.With the three primary colors you can mix just about any color, so I wouldn't start by buying a lot of paints. You could try a few different primaries to see what appeals to you. Be sure to get artist quality paints if you want good results. Never skimp on quality paints or paper. Buy only 100% cotton watercolor paper for best results. My work horse colors are still Winsor & Newton raw sienna, burnt sienna, Payne's grey, Indigo, French ultramarine, sap green, Indian yellow and lemon yellow. I also love the Daniel Smith line and use a numbe of their colors too.
