Your swatching is so neat Helen! Wonderful. What fun letting them run into each other! I just watched your other video on granulating watercolours. Thanks. Jo in France 🇫🇷
I just started with watercolor, and after a bunch of practicing technique I painted one of these rock pics and it turned out so good! It may be the best thing I’ve ever painted so far! Thank you for the inspiration!
It's so beautiful to let the water color do it's thing. And then add those pretty doodles. It is a work of arte in my opinion. This inspires me because I'm in the process of getting a granulating palette togeather. Thank you for this nice video. ☺☺💖💖 Karen from Canada
New subscriber and I adore these pebbles. I need to place a order for these super granulating colors. I only have moonglow, cascade green and apatite green, my fav.
Granulating paints are some of my faves. The pigment settling into the nooks and crannies of the paper is just so gorgeous. Thanks for sharing another lovely video. :)
Yes, I'm not really sure - pigment particle sizes, pigment weight, using different amounts of water, chemical formula of pigments, binders used in different paints?? Different combinations of these things would be my guess.
So beautiful. Love these rocks. The granulating colours look amazing. Amazing. I do home there would be sale soon somewhere on these granulating coloured paints especially the schmincke ones.
Thank you! Yes, they're gorgeous paints - I can recommend the Roman Szmal paints which granulate though - they are very reasonably priced and still lovely quality.
What a great video, thank you for sharing your lovely creation. Can you please recommend some watercolour paints and brushes for an absolute beginner please. Any advice would be very much appreciated.😊🎨🖌️
I was thinking of doing a video on this subject, but as briefly as possible, I'd suggest buying some professional watercolour paints such as Daniel Smith's, Winsor & Newton Professional, Schmincke Horadam, or some slightly cheaper but still good ones are Roman Szmal's. At a minimum, I'd suggest getting 2 reds (eg. Quinacridone Rose - a cool red, and Pyrrol Scarlet - a warm red), 2 yellows (eg. Lemon Yellow - a cool yellow, and whatever yellow that's more orangey looking that you like - ie. a warm yellow. Some people like New Gamboge, Hansa Yellow Medium. I like Quinacridone Gold Deep) and 2 blues (eg. French Ultramarine - a warm blue, and a cooler, more turquoise blue, like Phthalo Blue Green Shade, though I personally like Phalo.Turquoise). If you get transparent or semi- transparent paints, they generally mix more cleanly. With these 6 colours you can then mix most other colours. For brushes, it depends what you want to paint, and how much detail you want to achieve. I'd say that a size 8 or 10 Princeton Neptune is a beautiful brush. It's soft, holds lots of water and for up to A4 size pictures it's just about big enough to do washes, and you can still do a fair bit of detail with it, but you will likely also want a firmer and smaller brush, such as a 4 or 6 Princeton Aqua Elite. Escoda Ultimos or Silver Black Velvets are good substitutes for the Neptunes. Betty Hayways, Escoda Perlas, any sable brushes are good firmer brushes. I'll put links on to my personal choice of a limited palette (slightly different from the standard choice of 2 of each of the Primaries) and to one of the difference between brushes.
@@helencryer Thank you very much indeed Helen for taking time to reply with all of your recommendations, it is very kind and I do appreciate it. I will check them out and hope that they will be available here in France, or can be posted here. Su 🖌️🎨
You're welcome! I know that Daniel Smith and W&N were at the art shops I visited in Brittany last summer, but Sennelier are a very good brand too. Some of their tubes can be quite runny, but their half pans are very good if you want to travel with paints.
@@helencryer I will have a look on line because where I live is quite rural and the nearest art shop is about an hour away. Otherwise do you know of any slightly cheaper starter boxed pallets that I could try first? Su
I think I say most of the colours I use, in the video as I go along, and these are the colours on my Granulating Swatch chart: ua-cam.com/video/Pt2FQRqkPfY/v-deo.html
No, the brand is Karin, from Poland, and that particular line is the Pigment Decobrush Markers. They're available on UK Amazon, and are beautifully creamy and opaque!
It's fascinating to watch the movement of the granulation...like magic!
Yep, I love it!
I love this idea - I always feel like a vandal painting actual pebbles, but this way ‘no pebbles were harmed’! Awww, buy Freddy! He’s adorable!
'No pebbles were harmed'!! 😂❤
Love grannies! Such a fun video. So soothing to watch. Thank you for sharing it. ❤
Haha - that's great - never heard of them called grannies before!!! Thank you!
Amazing use of granulation! I will share with my art group for inspiration!
Thank you!
Thank you!
I love it ❤
Thank you!!
What a wonderful painting idea! Thank You so much for sharing such lovely, granulating colors! 😍
Thanks!!
Hi 👋🏻 These really do look like rocks! Pretty cool! Then you decorate them! Love this~ ❤️✝️🙏🏻 Your lil dog is so cute too 😊
Haha, thanks! I just love granulating watercolours!!

😊
Beautiful pebbles, love how the paints merge! Thanks. Have never used acrylics.
It's fun isn't it?! Acrylic pens have lovely opacity for adding details to paintings.
Hello Freddy. 😊 TFS. It was so interesting watching you bring each of those to life. 😍
Haha! Well done for making it to the end! Thank you!
Beautimous!!!

You're so organized ☺️👍
Beautiful pigments.
The painting is lovely!
Thank you!
Loved watching the paints push each other! Lovely painting!
Thank you!
I wonder why some move about more and faster than others? But interesting it is still possible to have a lot of control. Jo in France 🇫🇷

What a lovely painting 😍😍😍 I espacially love how the galaxy brown spread into the other pebbles 💖
Yep - I love how the paints just get up to their own stuff!

Hello what was the manufacturer of nocturno? What a beautiful color.
Hi, it's Notturno, by A. Gallo - it's the first link in the description. Yes, it's gorgeous!
I love looking at those colours, I would appreciate if you can give the name of those colours too

Wonderful playful video...thank you for sharing. Can you please name the acrylic ink markers you used? Especially the white ones?
Thanks, sure: 17:31
@@helencryer thanks, got it
The one with the hole in it, is it Daniel Smith Moonglow ?
I think it was Schmincke's Tundra Pink.
@@helencryer Thanks

What a fun way to play with watercolours🤍must try it soon, the Karin markers look so nice, are they an Amazon brand?
