Got my parts and swapped this evening after having issues with the junk CDI boxes online. Thanks for the information, helped a lot.

I just did this to my 94 medalist. 295 cc Robin's engine. Works great constant spark. I did do it slightly different. I removed the igniter box and wired the hei module into the stock connector for the pulse, and coil wires. Real clean only 3 connections that way. Really glad I found your vid. Awesome job dude. This helped a ton.

Dude, I freaking love you man you saved my life on this 😂 I was so tired of buying that shitty CDI from Amazon and wasting $35 everytime and not buying the OEM one for $115. All I did was buy the ignition control for $25 and use the old solenoid and it works great! You saved me $75!

I went through the same mess with Amazon junk. We’re you able to get this to work ok? I have everything but the coil connections. I’m unsure of which wires power coil, so it won’t work.

Is this what you do when you can't get spark? I have 97 ezgo txt and can't get spark for the life of me. It's like the pick up isn't doing anything...

What coil and igniter did you use

  • @CoJoCook
    @CoJoCook Рік тому

How well does your cart run under load? Mine starts and runs great at low RPM, but can reach higher RPMs. It acts like it needs a spark advance.
Does anybody know if the Yamaha ignitor has a factory defined spark advance curve designed into the unit? By design, The GM module would require either a mechanical/or vacuum advance, or computer generated advance curve in order to compensate for increased engine speeds.

Hello. Thanks for the video. I just did this to my 94. It runs, but pops on hard acceleration. It seems to have good power until then. It is almost like the timing is too far advanced and it is preigniting. Or running lean, but it ran fine with this carb before. Have you had any popping from yours?

The coil is off a late 90's like a pontiac 3.8 v6 they had three coils with two coil wires each... the hdi fires both plug each time .. hope this helps

First, my cart is a 1993 295cc 4 cycle. If yours is a 2 cycle I don't know how much I can help. Assuming you have a 4 cycle like mine, pick up a GM coil and control module. They're all pretty much the same. I used a Buick 3.8 v6 as a reference.
Find a good spot to mount the module and grind off the paint. It must be a good ground.

Locate the old control module. (see pictures) If yours is the same as mine you should have a Black wire, a Red w/White stripe, a Black w/White stripe, a White wire and an Orange w/White stripe.
NOTE: You can make the following cuts leaving enough wire on the old module in case you want to go back and rewire it in. ALSO, see pictures with notes about cuts. Cut wires will need to be lengthened and female terminal clips added as seen in video.
Cut the Black wire and attach to terminal "W" of the new module.
Cut the Red w/White stripe wire and attach to terminal "G" of the new module.
Follow the Black w/White stripe wire to where it connects and remove. It just pulls off. You will connect a new wire here later.
Cut the White wire and attach it to the "C" terminal of the new module.
Cut the Orange w/White stripe wire and cap it off.
Find the small terminal on the solenoid that has the red coil wire to it. Add another wire to the terminal and attach the other end to terminal "B" of the new module.
Lastly, there are two mounting holes in the new module to bolt it down. The hole on the right (see pic) will ground the module to the cart. Make a wire with an eyelet for the module end to go under the head of the hold down bolt and a female clip to connect to the terminal you pulled the Black w/White stripe wire from.
Pick up some plastic flex conduit from the parts store or Home Depot to run your wires in and keep it neat.
The coil just needs to be mounted to maintain a ground (see video). The terminals or clips may need to be trimmed to fit. The order of the wires doesn't matter. Neither does the order of the spark plug wires since they both fire each time.
    You're done.
Hope this helps. I have had no problems since I've done this. My cart runs better than it ever has. I used Autolite spark plugs. I'd have to look up the number but you can do that too. They've been great as well.

If you don’t read the comments, your guessing!!!
Followed your directions, exactly, and after 3-months of replacing, already replaced parts, I was vrooming around the yard in 30-min. So sick of EZGO and their BS.
Again, thank you so very much for you clear and concise directions!!!
Mine was a 94 txt, and I used the EZGO OEM coil that I had already replaced, it just ohmed at 2.5 ohms, which is a little higher than the 2.4 that the HEI ignator they recommend. I’ll update in a few weeks to let you know how it goes.
      Again, thank you!!!
