    I love your videos, I am semi deaf due to chemo and radiation and have a very rough time in public. My arthritis in my hands have advanced, so finger spelling is difficult for me and makes me slow at it, but I keep trying! So thank you very much for your videos as my schooling and you are the best teacher I have found.

      i’m slow when it comes to people spell speaking (example “We’re taking the kids to d-o-c-t-o-r”), let alone fingerspelling. My brain only holds onto two letters heard and/or seen maximum then throws out the others 😂😅 Note the two letters held aren’t always next to each other

    I have heard many wonderful things about you from Kelli. I know Noah enjoyed your classes as well. I love watching Kelli sign or watching the two of them sign when the room is noisy. Thank you for your videos! I look forward to really learning how to sign and enhance the very few words that i know.

      @@sign-language Thank you for inspiring Kelli! She has learned so much from you and talks about you with fondness, a lot! I have been watching some of your lessons and know more sign than I did. I have wanted to learn sign since I was a child. My mom is hard of hearing with 70% loss in both ears, so growing up was always loud. I love watching your lessons as they inspire me even more (as well as make me laugh)! Kelli has also been inspiring me to learn. Thank you for putting your instruction together to help those of us that hear be able to communicate with the deaf community!

    Hello ASL Heroes!!!
    Hey, I could really use your help.
    If you’ve enjoyed having access to an expert in ASL you can help me continue my work for you.
    A donation from you would instantly make a big difference here at the studio because teachers don’t earn much and I could use some help paying for server and domain hosting for Lifeprint.com.
    Right now you can help out a humble (not to mention kind, caring, generous, compassionate, helpful, friendly, fair, and hard-working) ASL teacher -- just go here and a few clicks later you too will be a true “ASL Hero!”

    Thanks!

    Take care and love to you all.

    I watched it on 50% speed, but it doesn't make it easier to follow. I think it's because it's not my native language so it's hard to grasp for my internal memory. There's no words coming as easily.
    Oh BUT the 'ceramic' I knew right away lol same as clay. Seems obvi that I'm an artist 😂
    If I get the chance (money wise) I want to buy the package for practice on USB. :3 Thanks for the offer

    I noticed tapping or flicking the double "t".
    I understood it intuitively. So it's effective.
    But many places are saying the preferred method is to move the letter slightly sideways out from your body.
    Thoughts?
    Regional? Is this an older style?

    • @sign-language
      @sign-language  Рік тому +1

      Please read this page:
      www.lifeprint.com/asl101/topics/induction-and-extrapolation.htm
      While that page isn’t specifically about fingerspelling of double letters - it does help establish a mind set.
      You will find a lot of people online who list rules as if each of their rules is "the" way to do something -- when actually the rule only describes "one of the various ways to do something."
      The more context, familiarity, and repetition influencing a signed concept -- the more the signing reduces, clips, and rounds.
      As to whether a double letter should be reformed, tapped, slid, bounced, or just plain dropped -- depends on the circumstance -- not on a rule listed in someone's lessons (even mine).
      When considering how to produce a double letter combination, ask yourself, "How would you do it if you had to spell that same word or concept a thousand times to the same person over the course of a month?"
      Then ask yourself "How would you spell it if you were spelling it for the first time to a large group?"
      If the person or group watching you spell only had ONE chance to catch and understand the spelling -- would that influence how you spelled it as opposed to communicating in a situation where your communication partner or audience could easily interrupt you and ask for clarification?
      You are welcome to ask me regarding any specific spelling of any specific word and I’ll do what I can to provide some further insight (depending on availability and energy).

    I knew a small amount of sign from a deaf friend many years ago but your videos have launched me into an all new belief that I really can learn this. But, I find I can finger spell ok and I’ve learned a lot of signs but I can’t read fingerspell very well and I can’t seem to smoothly transition from letter to letter (especially with any speed). Is there a method that would help me read better and more smoothly transition from one letter to the next? I’ve set up my iPad so I can record my hand gestures and rewatch later but I get frustrated when I get lost reading your signs on the videos.

    What is the joke about drinking (?) at the end after DESK?

    • @sign-language
      @sign-language  4 роки тому +2

      Tip: If you have questions about the video contents it is best to include the time code of the point in the video at which you have a question. For example: ##:## (fill in the numbers and include the colon.) UA-cam automatically turns time codes into links to the specified location in the video. That way people can click on the link and jump to the exact place in the video to which you are referring. I don't mind answering a few questions about the video content when my available time permits but I won't waste a significant amount of time viewing a video to try and find the exact location.
