  • Do you have the sensation of blocked ears? Blocked ears are caused by a rapid change in air pressure, notably occurring during the take-off and landing sequences of an airplane flight.
    Learn four ear equalisation techniques to help you relieve the blocking sensation in your ears. In this video, the following techniques will be demonstrated: the Valsalva maneuver, Toynbee maneuver, the Jaw Wiggle, and the Otovent.
    This video is brought to you by Singapore General Hospital.

      How can we blow through nose in valsalva maneuver?

    • @franklinrogers6388
      @franklinrogers6388 Рік тому +3

      @@rimshahassan6607 You close your mouth, pinch your nose closed, and gently to moderately breathe through your nose while holding it closed. It's very important that if you don't feel it clear or some relief with light to moderate pressure, stop. There is a risk of rupturing your eardrum(s) if you apply too much pressure, just go slow and gentle. Try blowing your nose with both nostrils closed. It takes practice but is helpful to maintain your equilibrium if you have inner ear issues. I'm in no way an expert, hope this helps.

    Very helpful. Some comments based on my having tried all the techniques:
    1. The original Valsalva where you pinch your nose is by far the most effective.
    2. With the Toynbee, I ended up with a drenched shirt.
    3. Jaw wriggle technique feels very awkward and actually caused semi-lockjaw when I tried it.
    4. Otovent requires significant coordination and balloon management skills, or else the balloon will slip off, or even fly away. I saw it done well in Ear Equalizer: The Movie, but I suspect it involved use of AI.

I have already consulted 2 specialist and they all tell to do this Valsalva maneuver and prescribe some nasal sprays that make my nostrils too dry and I hate them.

    Thank you Singapore General Health and Meng! After almost a month of very painful ear pressure from eustachian tube dysfunction and no relief from anti-histamines and steroid nose sprays, the "jaw wriggle" did the trick for me. I had tried every other "equalization" technique I could find and nothing else had helped. Thanks again!

    • @montmorencyyou
      @montmorencyyou 9 років тому

      Anna Schlotzhauer Interestingly, the jaw wriggle seems to be a simple version of the Galbreath Maneuver (Maneouvre) which you can look up. It's actually an Osteopathic technique (which I have only just today discovered).
      This video is quite a neat little summary of the various techniques, and as I think he refers to, there are others.
      btw, my ENT gets me to do the Valsalva from time to time, so I presume it is reasonably safe.

    I went swimming today and here's what happened..
    I wanted to make ring bubbles like what I did before. So my plan was to lie down on the stairs of a 3 ft deep pool and blow ring bubbles. By the time I was about to lie down (I wasn't really laying on my back yet but my head was kinda looking up. Sorry idk how to explain this) I swallowed my saliva and my right ear suddenly hurts (I forgot to cover my nose. When I swallow my saliva underwater while looking up I usually cover my nose cuz my ears will hurt if I don't. Before I swallowed my saliva my ears didn't hurt yet since I wasn't fully looking up). It was painful at start then it suddenly disappeared after drinking water. I thought it was gone but then I can feel pain in my ear everytime I burp and I can also hear a pop sound everytime I swallow my saliva. Can somebody pls tell me what's wrong with me?
    Im so sorry if you don't understand me. Feel free to ask me if you find something confusing about what I said. Im freakin out rn tho so someone pls help.

    Just came back from flight and heard the airline management telling me my ear block caused by pressure imbalance is going to be fixed by "natural air". I was like wtf and told them I will report to the medical authority. I was clearly taken aback by redundant medical knowledge of air hostesses. I guess that's why they don't make good nurses.
    Anyways I contacted one health department which was the only one there and told them about my problem. They carefully applied this maneuver and I felt like both my ears were cleared. That's natural recovery by anti medicinal techniques not some natural air shit that will fix problems like this. Even in old ages, people did practices to perform treatment different from doing nothing aka natural air method. They even assigned some tablet description with it which I won't use because of high medicine costs.

    So who here has voluntary control of the tubes? No maneuvers needs you can just make them "click" on command and can even do it in quick succession.
