Always a good movie to look at James. Earl Jones is a hell of an actor. Everything he plays in is good. Everything now I'm about to watch bingo long and it's traveling all stars and motor vehicles
Jack Johnson was, in my opinion, the best boxer of his generation. His biggest problem was that he was born in 1878 instead of 1978. Had he been born in 1978, and accomplished successes in boxing, he could be who he was, without harassment and racial animosity. As historian Ken Burns noticed about Jack Johnson, the boxing champion just wanted to live a good, happy life. He married more than once and his wives just happened to be white. This was unacceptable by many in his generation.
@@ChristianCentury2000 He ducked Sam Langford who pursued him in the same way Johnson pursued Burns. Culturally significant for breaking barriers, but I strongly believe he would have been beaten by Langford had he been granted a title fight.

James Earl Jones gives a magnificent performance, some say over the top, but that's the way Jack Johnson was as far as I've heard.
Ken Burns made an outstanding documentary abt Jack Johnson in 2005: "Unforgiveable Blackness: the Rise and Fall of Jack Johnson". The "unforgiveable blackness" phrase is from a newspaper article of the time, which praised Johnson's boxing abilities and accomplishments, but ended with the racist insult "...but for his unforgiveable blackness."
I'm a White Man and I say this to any racist idiot. Jack Johnson was the greatest of his time. I love it that he had white women. They want the Champion. I love Jack Johnson 1908 to 1915. That's a statement.
He denied the greatest contender, Sam Langford a shot at his belt. They fought 5 times prior and Johnson lost 3. He said that 2 black fighters would not draw any spectators for a championship fight, but in 1909 over 5000 American's traveled to France to watch Joe Jeanette and Sam Mcvey fight. Both black and both considered to be the greatest of heavyweight contenders. FROM WIKIPEDIA: "After Johnson became the first African-American Heavyweight Champion of the World on December 26, 1908, he never again fought Jeanette, despite numerous challenges. Johnson's refusal to fight African-Americans offended the African-American community. Jeanette criticized Johnson, saying, "Jack forgot about his old friends after he became champion and drew the color line against his own people."
