  • What's up, people! I'm back with another reaction, and this time we listen the godfather of Ethiopian jazz (sometimes called Ethio-jazz), Mulatu Astatke (often referred to just as Mulatu). This guy made some amazing music in the late '60s and throughout the '70s (even collaborating with a number of American jazz artists during his time in the US, including Duke Ellington), but apparently his music had fallen out of international play until its appearance in the film Broken Flowers (which is where I first heard it). The tune itself is wicked, dark, and yet funky at the same time, so I hope you enjoy the sounds and my reaction. Cheers!

Love this! I've known Mulatu for more than 30 years and he is such a wonderful musical ambassador for our country. You should also check out another Ethiopian jazz instrumental album called 'Hsabe' (a 1991 compilation) by popular saxophonist Theodros Mitiku. We absolutely still adore sax music here.

I ain't shit. It's been quite awhile since I've even done anything. It was just me and some friends having fun. That being said, I have been talking to my boy about doing some stuff again and taking it slightly more serious this go round. Back then we were some white metal head/ punk rock guys that started rhyming over some beats while hungover LATE one morning. We do like hip hop though. It wasn't making fun of hip hop. More making fun of ourselves. Trying to put on a false persona like we were about shit when we wasn't. This time around I would want to do real lyrics that actual say something other than talking about making stacks of cash when in reality I was broke as shit hungover off of beer my buddy couldn't sell at his club anymore because it past expiration so he gave it all to us for free.

That might actually be part of the content for the return of the futon clan. That was our rap group by the way.
