My daughter, who is now 21, is one of Cindy's former students. My daughter also happens to be gay. I've always known Cindy was a bad ass and amazing human and this proves it even further. My daughter found this podcast and was so thrilled to see Mrs. Phillips' response. Cindy - thanks for being who you are!!! (and for those of you who don't know Cindy, she's a spectacular teacher, administrator, and has had such a spectacular influence on thousands of people!!
I am an old gay guy that grew up in the Mormon Church, RM, BYU Grad. I was so fearful of my family and religious community that I stayed deeply in the closet. I had my career outside the Moridor and had nothing to do with the church much to my family’s disappointment. With some therapy I was able to come out to everyone after I retired. I have toured the Encircle House in Provo. The demonstration of acceptance and love this podcast is showing is so necessary for our LGBTQIA+ youth. Please know that it also helps this old gay guy to feel more accepted and heal so much hurt. Thank you!
No child should ever have to grow up thinking they are somehow broken, or unworthy, because of who they are. Any organization that would to that is "evil".
I have a suggestion for a slogan/motto that could be applied and even added/printed on the rainbow flag: IT'S NOT ABOUT RELIGION AND FIGHTING IT'S ABOUT INCLUSION AND LOVING As a side note, I'm not sure if a scripture reference would be going too far, but maybe even adding one on the flag which mentions how we are to love everyone would help. One that comes to mind is John 15:12-13. I can speak personally that even though I consider myself atheist, the scripture reference doesn't put me off at all, and would be I think people need to realize that the flag and the message is hoping to show others (specifically parents who throw their kids out of the house or give them grief and make them feel unworthy of love) how to not reject those that are different and are LGBTQ, and also in hopes of lowering the youth suicide rate both in Utah as well as across USA. Thank you Willy, Kristy and Cynthia for doing this interview! You are great people for striving to love those that most need understanding and inclusion!
The neighbors had the guts to stand up and be counted planting these flags, and show their true colors. The authors of the anonymous letters are too afraid to have their names known. I have not been a fan of rainbow flags in the past, but I am all in favor of this because they are sending a positive message, letting LGBT people that they can find a house where they will be safe and welcome.
This letter is interesting. Because I thought the church was all about loving one another and the love of Jesus. This member is saying that you can't be a good member and have a flag in your yard. But God is love and loving others.
@@nikwilson5599 How can you profess to be a Christian and then take away their calling for supporting LBGQ, surley they are acting against Gods principals of love, shame on the Church. Who would want to go to a Church like that.
I rather speak against the church for what they have done then sit silent. I tried my best to be the best little girl, but I couldnt be something I wasnt. The bishop of my branch didnt help with all of it either.

These wonderful souls brought tears to my eyes with their courage and openness and loving energy. What an inspiration! Thank you for your work.
Cynthia, thank you. I can feel you really feel for and stand up for your students and LGBTQIA friends.

As the Dalai Lama says, as a human society we can live without a religion, but we cannot live without compassion.

John Dehlin deserves a Nobel Prize.

agree
A dear friend of mine was found in support of the LBGQ community. They took her teaching calling away from her.

My family received a similar letter for flying a flag up in Layton.
