I'm still waiting for you to start your day by saying good morning Dru the tow truck driver that watches every single one of my videos and have been subscribed since almost day one. LOL still have to make my day bro. Be safe trucker
The first 7 minutes of this video is a prime example of how truck drivers are the most defensive. Always planning ahead and looking for a way out of a potential accident. Absolutely beautiful!
When merging onto an interstate, its better to floor it, give it all the beans man, dont worry about others they will move. then you can gauge whether to let off the peddle or keep gaining speed.
How Alex merges is how I did when I started out too. Then I started running with veteran truckers and I learned to do it the way you said. 99.9% of the time everyone moves if they can. I put it in the big hole and stand on it. I try my best to get to 60mph before I'm entering the interstate.
yep. but it's that 0.1% of the time where it's another big truck flying by in the right lane because he can't get over. that's pretty much the only time i back out of it or ride the shoulder on the get on. every other time i'm doing what Charlie said. stand on it until you get it in the big hole. they will move.
You're absolutely right. It's more dangerous (and more difficult!) to merge when your speed is half of that of the traffics', so if you can get up to speed before merging, do it!
New driver, learning, nothing wrong with taking his time and getting out to look. In the future, I bet he would be definitely help someone in the same situation
I love your videos, you have such a calming voice and I love your kindness. My father taught all his kids 5 girls 2 boys to respect trucks on the road and to give them space and respect. My brother was an over the road driver for a few years. It’s no easy although you do the job with such class and grace. Keep up the great work and keep the videos coming. Safe travels!!
Ageed, Alex, get up to speed when you are trying to merge. Plus the lane goes on for a while for you and traffic to "merge". Everyone behind you is trying to "merge" . Other drivers see you and are anticipating the " merge".
Little trick, only engage your tractor brakes when parking (unless you're sliding tandems) or in the case of cold weather, your trailer brakes are going to freeze up and you're gonna be dragging wheels and shredding tires. My dad's been a TA mechanic for 20+ years and you'd be surprised how often it happens. Also it takes A TON to break them loose when they freeze
Hey, Alex! I just wanted to say that I’ve been watching lots of your videos these past weeks and you’ve inspired me to enter this career. I recently got accepted with Stevens Transport and start driving school on December 12. Thank you for being an inspiration and a motivator for me in this new career path and journey, and thank you for what you do and your sacrifice.
“Yield” means let other road users go first. It's not just other cars. Don't forget about bicycles and pedestrians. Unlike with stop signs, drivers aren't required to come to a complete stop at a yield sign and may proceed without stopping -- provided that it is safe to do so.
Melt the lead down for batteries as one example. Worked at a factory when in high school and use to get loads of lead like that to be melted down to make the elements in industrial batteries. Lots of things still made with lead like fishing lures, bullets, etc. Its fun to listen to you experience new things. Cheers 😊
Good to get it checked, looks like you have closed greased wheel bearings and if you see grease you probably have an inside seal leak, yes needs to be checked.
I’ve been fascinated with trucking since I was a kid. I finally got a taste driving 40ft trucks in the USAF. But watching the navigation issues and all the tight turns and backing is why I could never do it! My anxiety is too high 😂
I've been driving truck for 15 years. 8 and a half was hauling scrap. In those 8.5 years averaging 2,500 miles a week only twice had ibreplaced tires on a truck or trailer due to the tread being worn down. I was in the tire shop 1-3 times a week with flat or ruined tires from running stuff over.
Manufacturers use solid lead bars to melt down and cast things, like fishing weights, battery internals, etc. They can also roll it into sheets and such. Lots of stuff is made out of lead still because it's heavy, doesn't corrode, and cheap.
I know I'm late with this comment, but I have to say this. When hauling lead like this, turn corners very slowly. If that load shifts, it will turn the truck on its side and the cargo will exit through the roof. All that weight in one small space and taking off to the left or right is very dangerous. It is like swinging a huge sledge hammer. I used to haul this stuff to Exide and they made batteries with it up here in Corydon, IA.
Lol does that make you a workaholic in a weird way? Watching someone else work while you're taking a break from working. Haha. Thanks for the compliment
Can't you get a portable camera monitor you can attach to the rear of the trailer to help you in these difficult situations? Sure would make your job less stressful. Really admire your work ethic.
My company has a bunch of trailers so I always end up swapping for example an empty trailer out for a trailer that's full of stuff. The camera would be good for those that own their truck and trailer though
Alex: I'm new to your channel. Probably have seen 4 or 5 videos. All of them very interesting. Many features of your truck, probably remind me of being in the cockpit of an airplane. Maybe on some future videos you would like to show us how each button , handle, door etc works and what it is used for. The only thing I wouldn't do, is to cook inside the cabin. Is not possible to do it outside? In any case, thanks for show us around the US. Have a nice day.
Dude, you really really must start merging at a quicker pace. You will have a much easier and safer chance to merge. If you have a super long on-ramp this can be achieved any time.
Welcome to New Haven, Indiana. I grew up there. As soon as gaming said US 30 I recognized where you where at. Definitely knew the place you went. Recycling is a messy and dangerous place.
They actually nailed some pieces of wood to the trailer to secure the lead. It was an odd load for sure. Crazy thing is that even though the trailer was like 95% empty those lead bars weighed at least 43,000lbs
Ok matey cos I have see them sort of loads over here in the uk and they strap them down cos like u I’m a truck driver but I’m the uk don’t know how u show u a pic of my truck tho
Hey Alex I work with variant at this moment been there for good minute I will give you a good recommendation always always use the navigation on the tablet trust me your personal gps use it at your back up
Your comment that you need to pee made me laugh. I live an hour away from the town to my East and an hour from the town to my north. Even farther to the towns in the other directions. I always need to pee when I get to town.
Hey Alex i haul out of their sister plant all the time here in NY. I was looking at where you are and I’m like that looks so familiar looks exactly the same in NY the lead can be heavy. Love your videos keep it up and drive safe bro
Depends. It is a lot more difficult than one thinks. But, more importantly, how long can you comfortable spend alone with yourself? It can be really isolating.
@@rapidojade3646 Just remember that is one more set of responsibilities on top of everything else. If you do jump into trucking, and for the record I enjoy it, you might want to hold off on the pet until you get the hang of it all.
I notice you don't use the seatbelt deadbolt while sleeping...wrap it through the door handle and click it in. Not fool proof obviously, but buys you some extra time!!
You suould buy Magnatic Cameras with a screen in your cab stick cameras to the end of the trailer to avoid such tight places and reverse alot easy... Just my foolish thought 🙂
Why do you always slow down when merging onto freeway. You need to just continue, the vehicles on freeway see you merging and they will move to the side.
They been doing it for 30 yrs pick up in NY delivering Indiana landfill big shares of garbage two high unload with a cable in a field then wash your trailer 4 times to get the maggots out ,,,,welcome to trucking
Yeah, I stay fixing things, hard enough to find you guys when you break down , can't imagine the frustration you all have backing in some of the places yall do
Hey Alex, did you do a pre trip before you left the shipper. And there was no air or oil coming from the back trailer tires. You noticed it, when you stop at your company's yard?

Why do you wait for cars to squeeze in? You won't build any speed and possibly cause a car on the slow lane rear ending you when you do merge.

Hey thank you so much!
Been reading through your comments. Mostly postive, except for the merging and the trailer brakes running out of air, lol. Great video, thanks.
The solid lead bars will be smelted down to make something new. I hauled brass ignot bars when I was driving a few years ago.
Alex please show video's of any maintenance on your truck or trailer? Show us what you have to do to get work done?
