Btw Circe is a god being the child of Helios and an oceanid also fun fact her name is technically Kirke since the letter C isn’t in the Ancient Greek alphabet
I just noticed that the start of puppeteer sounds like legendary Like in the end “If somebody help me, come and give me a sign. If I fight this man is it you I’ll find”
I'm pretty sure that the confession Eurylochus was trying to make at the beginning was regarding the bag that was opened. Immediately prior to its opening, Eurylochus was on his ship "spreading seeds of doubt" and he wasn't there to help keep the bag closed. Odysseus was awake for NINE DAYS trying to keep it from being opened!
OMG CIRCE IS A PUPPETEER AND HAS A STRING INSTRUMENT, SPECIFICALLY THE HARP WHERE YOU PLUCK THE STRINGS TO MAKE MUSIC Is it just me or does that make total sense
I realized a small add-on to the chess metaphor. "No I'm not a player, I'm a puppeteer" could be Circe saying "We are not chess players, because I have way more power and control than you could ever compete with." She believes that no one could stand against her because they aren't even on her level at all. It also gets ironic when Odysseus takes the Molly flower and gains enough power to be Circe's equal
I don't know what will be of my days once this reactions stop coming out, it's so fun to see you guys discuss and react something as incredible as Epic! Gotta admit, i had a hard time finding the danger motif on this saga but i finally got it!... today😅 About Puppeteer: 1) The melody of Full speed ahead, at the beggining of the song? Just keep in mind, it could be used for something else on the future 2) In the scene in which Odysseus is ignoring Eurylichus, if you listen REALLY closely, you can hear the melody of Luck runs out in some kind of music box
Fun fact: Polites (who is still alive in the Odyssey at this point) is the one that leads the crew into Circe's lair. He also does a thing later... and this is also like the only place in the original poem he's brought up. But we do *know* he's Ody's best friend, and possibly his oldest. Ummm Eury sry to break it to you but: Circe *is* a god. A 'minor' one but still. Oh hey... you asked about that. Yeah she's a goddess, usually the daughter of Helios. She's also kind of become the 'original' femme fatale but that's just how people started choosing to depict her later. Oh and Talya, not Tanya. Although I bet by now you guys know that...
I interpreted "player" to mean more the relationship side, essentially her saying "no i dont seduce men for pleasure, i do it for control". Mainly because the next like being "no i dont play i puppeteer" is meaning more games, so its saying i dont seduce for pleasure and that she doesnt play games makes more sense then just"i dont play games, and i also dont play games".
Is it just me or at the start of Puppeteer, during the discussion between Odysseus and Eurylychus, the piano melody remind of luck runs out but slower and higher ? I never notice that before, but during the reaction I notice a pattern that seem familiar from another song, and the last few notes of the piano, before the "Okay" of Eurylychus, it remind me of that melody. "You rely on wit, and people die on it. Whoa" that's what I think it was
I can't dislike Odysseus a single bit. It is not surprising at all that he insists on saving as many lives of his men as he possibly could regarding what happened before he even left for the trojan war in the first place. He might wanted to prevent the worst.. for we know, humans always try to fight what has long been established even against better knowledge. I don't really tell a significant thing but there's general knowledge from greek mythology ahead, so here is a slight spoiler warning or something, folks! Odysseus didn't want to leave his family for war because a prophet told him a few things, like how long it would take him to return, things he would lose on his way back and how all of this journey would affect himself.
It really does irk me how much people pile up on Odysseus for a lot of the wrong things in my opinion. He isn't perfect and that's kind of the whole point. And purely from the perspective of the Epic musical, everything I've seen of him, to me just scream "human" or as they say "just a man". The people who don't like him are generally those who can't put themselves in the shoes of the character and take advantage of the "hindsight is 20-20" saying. Purely talking about this musical. He is a witty kid who grows up trained by Athena and becomes a King. He goes to a decade long war, wins and keeps all his men alive. If that doesn't make a person be at least somewhat cocky and arrogant then I don't know what will. And I am not even going to go into the emotions of coming down from that war-high, wanting to see your wife and child, seeing your best friend killed, etc. ; Only to have your God berate and abandon you right after and your right-hand man all of a sudden question your competency. The entire thing is about everyone throwing all responsibility on him and he should somehow be like a robot, perfect cold and calculated, whereas he is "just a man" that is trying to make the best of bad situations he isn't used to handling since he is used to outsmarting and winning. To conclude, purely from my perspective, Odysseus is a flawed man that is crushed by external factors. And while he is not blameless, most of the blame is on the fucked-up world they are in and the others around him.
I love how the ambience of the animatic changes in 15:42 when Circe appears since she (from my own knowledge) has the ability to 'charmspeak'. The change of ambience gives that detail and that's why the men were so easy to lure in. That little detail just makes me want to jump up in joy
I do know one animator had Eurylocus's eyes having the color of Circe's magic. So I think an animator leaned on the same idea of him being controlled. I should find that animation. But I love seeing your reactions to this! It was awesome to see! I also love Gigi for the lil Odysseus and pig hanging by strings like puppets at the end.
7:34 when i hear the first few notes of this song I _always_ think of the lyrics "Polites, gear up. You and I'll go ahead. We should try to find a way no one ends up dead" (just like, in minor key or whatever) And tbh i feel like "Puppeteer" & "Luck Runs Out" are the two songs that make make Polites' absence the most _glaring_ Like, the way Polites' song was all about how he noticed Odysseus' stress/guilt And you can HEAR the heaviness in Odysseus voice + he outright says "I can hardly sleep now" but no one asks how he's doing, he's left to flounder alone Eurylochus tries to confess something thats eating _him_ but he doesnt reach out to ask how _Odysseus_ is doing The way Ody says "_We_ have to go save them" But he ends up going _alone_ Vs "Full Speed Ahead" where the person he calls on is Polites & he _cheerfully_ accompanies Odysseus He still has 43 men, he still has his _second in command_ but he's soooo alone now
One thing I love in this song is the parallels between Circe & Odysseus storywise & the parallels between Circe & Penelope musically. Circe & Odysseus are both leaders haunted by their past mistakes & their people who got hurt because of it. Circe & Penelope both have similar sounding instrumental motifs (the only classical string instrument aside from Polypehmus iirc). Both of them are incedibly intelligent & powerful women. (You'll see that in later sagas, but Penelope is incredibly clever. It's why Odysseus wanted to marry her.) Given how There Are Other Ways starts, there's also some interesting parallels there too.
Mortius! Please tell me you recorded "monster" with gigi's animatic. IT'S SO GOOD. I would even say it's better than puppeter, which is saying something.
Have you seen the post-recording jam sessions they did in the earlier days? Teagan (Athena) did parts of "Warrior of the Mind" and "My Goodbye", Stephen Dookie (Polites) did part of "Open Arms", and Armando Julian (Eurylochus) did some of "Luck Runs Out". Luke Holt (Zeus) did part of a song from Act Two, so I'd suggest probably not watching that one, even though I personally can't figure out the context of the song. All of them are amazing, and Jay plays the piano for them all.
Spoiler abt a Telemachus song - - - - - - - - - Fun fact about the beginning lyre sound. That's also the tune of Telemachus' song where he sings "cause I'm stuck with your stories. But no clue who you are. And no idea if you're dead or just too far." Whoch is the same tune as full Speed Ahead when odysseus is trying to get bsck to his son and wife.
CF is so close to the danger motif with noticing the strings in the beginning, i'm always listening for it now Once I hear it just audibly going "Daaaaaan-ger, Daaaaaaan-ger" in my ear lol
I cannot wait when you get to the last song of Act 1. AND THEN you will see the best Gigi animatic. (well... both Gigi animatics for this song are perfection iykyk)
Odysseus' empathy aside, Eurylochos seems to forget that they likely came to Aeaea on a penteconter, a fifty-oared ship. They've already less than 50 men left. If they're losing many more, the ship is probably going to be unusable. (Also, even though Gigi animated like 4 men here, usually there are way more of them going to Circe, I believe a dozen or more, so it's an even bigger problem then.) Anyway, I love the insight you offer to the songs. And I'm happy you seem to enjoy these animatics so much.
7:35 This is the same tune that we hear in full speed ahead. "Polites, gear up. You and I'll go ahead. We should try to find a way no one ends up dead" Which is a devastating way to start the song when he's down to 43 men of the 600 that he started with
It's a consistent theme of the physical presences of the gods, for the most part, having glowing eyes when using their power. Circe, being half god half nyphm (thanks Helios for the god half), has glowing yellow eyes when she's accessing the part of her that came from Helios.
I don't think anyone mentioned, but... With the men gone, Eurylochus has no other instrument for call and response, so... Circe fills the roll. So tada.
there are actually four "what" that are included in the what saga. the first is eurolucus in storm, the 2nd and third are both in keep your friends close with the "sometimes killing is a must, what" and "Its treasure! what." and then the fourth is in puppeteer with "but we are weak to a power like this, what was it, a woman. what?" so there are four instances in the what saga.
In Homer's _The Odyssey_ I'm fairly certain Eurylochus wasn't wise enough to not go in. I can't recall if I ever actually read the original text, but I think I saw someone mention it somewhere.
Random thing for you Circe is actually the child of a couple Divine parents the one pairing I remember most is Helios the former Sun God or personification of the Sun and a sea goddess so it wouldn't shock me at all she has some very wild powers
Wait looking back on it the comment about Polites coming back in this saga is really funny considering Polites WAS still alive at this point in the Odyssey. He was the one that led the team that got turned into pigs
Another cool thing i believe i've noticed is that this type of rap flow was only used once before. In Horse and the Infant for Odysseus' planning, which leads me to believe that Rapping is essentialy military communication. Because with the right flow, rapping is just conveying information as fast and efficiently as possible.
I am so sad I missed the Premiere!!! This is one of my three FAVOURITE SONGS!!! your guys' insights and remember she is the child of a god! her voice is amazing and so fluid!
20:07 isn't that a bit more brutal, since gunnie pigs are rodents and preyed upon way more? also do transformed people have the lifespan of what they get transformed into?
Something I think goes a bit unnoticed in this song is how it shows Eurylochus' development. He's still a voice of reason and has a militant mindset but he's changed some. If you think back to Full Speed Ahead, he says "600 men, 600 reasons to take what we can;" each individual person that was in their fleet was someone worth fighting for to Eurylochus. In this song, his role stays the same but shifts views, as he says to leave behind the men turned into pigs, they're no longer worth fighting for in his eyes. After losing so much Eurylochus just wants to get back home even if he has to lose a few more along the way. "Think about the men we have left before they're none, let's just cut our losses, you and I, and let's run." It's kind of hypocritical and contradictory but it's by design (think Ironwood wanting to risk it all to save Atlas even though it results in him then trying to bomb Mantle and thusly kill most of the people he's supposed to save and do some of Salem's job for her).
Its funny Casper thinks the sight chained(?) effect may be Circe's instrument and the intricate drums a sign of divinity considering its almost the exact inverse! What with the modern elements symbolizing her magic and the string/drum combination characterizing different sides of *her*
If you hear Eurylochus at the beginning, he wants to confess something to get off his chest. My think is that he was about to tell Odysseus that he was the one who opened the bag. Keep an eye on him Ody, “Never really know who you can trust” “Keep your friends close and your enemies closer”…
I'm loving the dual reactions btw but actually something that I just noticed while rewatching both of your reactions to this song (although It should have been obvious to me before but we wont talk about that) is that Circe turning men to pigs is a clear choice. She could very much turn them into any other creature or horrific beings if she really wanted to and she clearly has the power to do that but instead she made the specific choice of turning them to pigs. Now, what is a common negative phrase spoken about men in general by women especially ones who have a clear dislike of the male population? That 'Men are pigs'. Thought that was a interesting little tid bit
Ah, the song that made me ship Eurylochus and Odysseus with that "let's run just the two of us!" :'D And Circe's lines are just so amazing the simple double meaning of "Circe's got you now" 👏👏
I actually thibk I subscribed to gigi last week because of this puppeteer video. There was one that just hit me so good in her animation that after almost a year of watching her videos (i watch lots of animatics. And her stuff frequents my recommendation list alot. And I don't subscribe to channels easy, so you know you done good if I subscribe. And I've become more vocal on letting people know their work is awesome because artists are way too underrated. And sadly we tend to take them for granted)
I really hope that when they reach to there are other ways they react to the anniflames version that came out between Mortius's last time reaction to the song
How did I never notice when She saud dont worry Circies got you she placed her hand on her nymph as if to tell her dont worry about these men ill take care of the problem brilliant foreshadowing!
Something that I just noticed! You mentioned the piano still being there. So I started to pay more attention. When Odysseus is shutting Urilicus down, the piano played a motif to Luck Runs Out!!
What did Eurochus want to confess… I can’t help but think that maybe Eurylochus helped open the bag. 🤔 Or maybe he saw it happening and didn’t stop it. That would really tear him up with guilt.
In the strings playing under Eurylochus’s and Odysseus’s dialogue at the beginning, there is the slowed lead up to the danger motif and after they finish the highs of the danger motif play quicker right before the glissando.
one of my favorite parts of this song is when the harps come in while Odysseus and Eurylochus are talking and you see Hermes's shoes in the corner of the shot. 22:54 i think is the timestamp. it's such a clever way for Jorge to musically convey that Hermes was eavesdropping on the whole thing before he comes in with "Wouldnt You Like"

In some version of the odyssey, Polites is still alive and is the first man who enters Circe's palace

There's this one song in the second act that, I'm excited for you to see cause its a BANGER
Wet Hades
How does he only have 90 likes rn lol
OMG CIRCE IS A PUPPETEER AND HAS A STRING INSTRUMENT, SPECIFICALLY THE HARP WHERE YOU PLUCK THE STRINGS TO MAKE MUSIC
Is it just me or does that make total sense
circe is a goddess but she's a minor goddess but while being a minor goddess, she's also an enchantress
Is he falling in love with the music or Circe? The music is great, tho!! 💃🍷
Could be Circe’s voice too. It’s amazing.
@@strangemaryghstrangemary exactly. ❤️
yes
We love talya sindel
I just realized. Circe turns men into pigs. So does that mean that the roasted pig is just some random dude?
Probably, yes. Mortis noticed that in his first reaction lol!
Gotta admit, i had a hard time finding the danger motif on this saga but i finally got it!... today😅
About Puppeteer:
1) The melody of Full speed ahead, at the beggining of the song? Just keep in mind, it could be used for something else on the future
2) In the scene in which Odysseus is ignoring Eurylichus, if you listen REALLY closely, you can hear the melody of Luck runs out in some kind of music box
I'm grateful for Casper's impatience. 😆
We should try to find a way no one ends up dead" (just like, in minor key or whatever)
And tbh i feel like "Puppeteer" & "Luck Runs Out" are the two songs that make make Polites' absence the most _glaring_
Like, the way Polites' song was all about how he noticed Odysseus' stress/guilt
And you can HEAR the heaviness in Odysseus voice + he outright says "I can hardly sleep now" but no one asks how he's doing, he's left to flounder alone
Eurylochus tries to confess something thats eating _him_ but he doesnt reach out to ask how _Odysseus_ is doing
The way Ody says "_We_ have to go save them"
But he ends up going _alone_
Vs "Full Speed Ahead" where the person he calls on is Polites & he _cheerfully_ accompanies Odysseus
He still has 43 men, he still has his _second in command_ but he's soooo alone now
Puppeteer is such a good song!! One of my favourites, especially the detail in most of the animatics of his summoning a cyclops!
Upon rereading the Odyssey in recent days, i realized something HORRIBLE about Eurylocus, and i am NOT OKAY.
Wut is it?
One thing I love in this song is the parallels between Circe & Odysseus storywise & the parallels between Circe & Penelope musically.
Circe & Odysseus are both leaders haunted by their past mistakes & their people who got hurt because of it.
Circe & Penelope both have similar sounding instrumental motifs (the only classical string instrument aside from Polypehmus iirc). Both of them are incedibly intelligent & powerful women. (You'll see that in later sagas, but Penelope is incredibly clever. It's why Odysseus wanted to marry her.)
Given how There Are Other Ways starts, there's also some interesting parallels there too.
hearing them talking about ody having the crew who opened the bag on his ship AFTER the thunder saga...its funny but it hurts
Mortius! Please tell me you recorded "monster" with gigi's animatic. IT'S SO GOOD. I would even say it's better than puppeter, which is saying something.
23:25 Hermes is also a trickster god, like Loki
Have you seen the post-recording jam sessions they did in the earlier days? Teagan (Athena) did parts of "Warrior of the Mind" and "My Goodbye", Stephen Dookie (Polites) did part of "Open Arms", and Armando Julian (Eurylochus) did some of "Luck Runs Out". Luke Holt (Zeus) did part of a song from Act Two, so I'd suggest probably not watching that one, even though I personally can't figure out the context of the song. All of them are amazing, and Jay plays the piano for them all.

Fun fact about the beginning lyre sound. That's also the tune of Telemachus' song where he sings "cause I'm stuck with your stories. But no clue who you are. And no idea if you're dead or just too far." Whoch is the same tune as full Speed Ahead when odysseus is trying to get bsck to his son and wife.
CF is so close to the danger motif with noticing the strings in the beginning, i'm always listening for it now
Once I hear it just audibly going "Daaaaaan-ger, Daaaaaaan-ger" in my ear lol
I cannot wait when you get to the last song of Act 1. AND THEN you will see the best Gigi animatic. (well... both Gigi animatics for this song are perfection iykyk)
Odysseus, the ever devoted, faithful husband, just being confused that his men’s smarts go on holiday whenever a female appears, is just so good lmao
* kinda inappropriate *
They stop thinking with their heads and start thinking with other parts
Odysseus' empathy aside, Eurylochos seems to forget that they likely came to Aeaea on a penteconter, a fifty-oared ship. They've already less than 50 men left. If they're losing many more, the ship is probably going to be unusable. (Also, even though Gigi animated like 4 men here, usually there are way more of them going to Circe, I believe a dozen or more, so it's an even bigger problem then.) Anyway, I love the insight you offer to the songs. And I'm happy you seem to enjoy these animatics so much.
7:35
This is the same tune that we hear in full speed ahead.
"Polites, gear up. You and I'll go ahead. We should try to find a way no one ends up dead"
Which is a devastating way to start the song when he's down to 43 men of the 600 that he started with
The reason why it was guinea pigs is because it has been so long that pigs weren’t a viable option because of space
Fun Fact:
In the start, where eurylochus is talking with Odysseus you can hear the strings constantly playing the danger is nearby motif!
Now we know why 🙃
It's a consistent theme of the physical presences of the gods, for the most part, having glowing eyes when using their power. Circe, being half god half nyphm (thanks Helios for the god half), has glowing yellow eyes when she's accessing the part of her that came from Helios.
To be fair Odysseus and his crew were caught off guard when Polyphemus brought and used the club
CAN’T WAIT!! Another great reason for my birthday to be a great day!
Happy birthday !
Happy Birthday
I don't think anyone mentioned, but... With the men gone, Eurylochus has no other instrument for call and response, so... Circe fills the roll. So tada.
5:02 synchronised headphone adjustment, the hive mind is real!
😭😭😭
LMAO! "Yes and..." Is such a dnd move 🤣
there are actually four "what" that are included in the what saga. the first is eurolucus in storm, the 2nd and third are both in keep your friends close with the "sometimes killing is a must, what" and "Its treasure! what." and then the fourth is in puppeteer with "but we are weak to a power like this, what was it, a woman. what?" so there are four instances in the what saga.
"when does your run luck out"

In Homer's _The Odyssey_ I'm fairly certain Eurylochus wasn't wise enough to not go in. I can't recall if I ever actually read the original text, but I think I saw someone mention it somewhere.
Yeah in the Odyssey he’s a coward and didn’t go because he was scared instead of wise
@@agatha6999 No, I mean I think he went in and got swineified.
@@disableddragonborn That isnt the case. Its actually Polites who gets swineified
It seems in some iterations of the Odyssey he actually is smart enough to avoid Circe. In general he isnt swinified to tell Odysseus whats happening
@@agatha6999 They arrived on Circe's island _before_ they ended up on Polyphemus's island?
Random thing for you Circe is actually the child of a couple Divine parents the one pairing I remember most is Helios the former Sun God or personification of the Sun and a sea goddess so it wouldn't shock me at all she has some very wild powers
Anyone notice that Hermes lyre plays during Odysseus’s speech to show he’s watching
20:07
isn't that a bit more brutal, since gunnie pigs are rodents and preyed upon way more?
also do transformed people have the lifespan of what they get transformed into?
Talya Sindel is amazingly talented. She and Jay are a couple blessed by the Muses themselves.
What with the modern elements symbolizing her magic and the string/drum combination characterizing different sides of *her*
Oh this is gonna be good.
20:25 Talya Sindel! She has such a pretty voice!
If you hear Eurylochus at the beginning, he wants to confess something to get off his chest. My think is that he was about to tell Odysseus that he was the one who opened the bag. Keep an eye on him Ody, “Never really know who you can trust” “Keep your friends close and your enemies closer”…
I'm fascinated by the decision to use the melody from the line "then 600 men can make this whole place burn" specifically for the intro to this song
I think it's actually meant to be the "we should try to make sure no one ends up dead" line
@@ChaosOnyx it is
I'm loving the dual reactions btw but actually something that I just noticed while rewatching both of your reactions to this song (although It should have been obvious to me before but we wont talk about that) is that Circe turning men to pigs is a clear choice.
Ah, the song that made me ship Eurylochus and Odysseus with that "let's run just the two of us!" :'D And Circe's lines are just so amazing the simple double meaning of "Circe's got you now" 👏👏
They're brother in law🤣🤣😭
My entire department just left me alone - perfect timing to watch! So excited!!!
10:34 I can hear a small snippet of Luck Runs Out in the background here. On a piano. Very quietly.
Just a fun fact! Strings are circe and Scylla's instrument and also the voice actor of Talya Sindel is dating Jorge in real life.
Here for the premier!! Enjoyed journeying with you. Also.
Mommy nymph
Also part of mommy nymph circe's hair looks like the folded ears of pigs
Or maybe he saw it happening and didn’t stop it.
22:54 i think is the timestamp. it's such a clever way for Jorge to musically convey that Hermes was eavesdropping on the whole thing before he comes in with "Wouldnt You Like"
Wamen, the enemy of all soldiers
Did anyone else hear the 'luck runs out' thread in the melody at the beginning? The melody of "you rely on wit and we'll all die it" etc
I'm LOVING these reactions so much. ❤
And I’m LOVING all the support from people like you!!!
The tune in the beginning is actually legendary
The drums is probably his instrument but we don't hear it because of the crew
so excited, the wait is so worth it!!!
