- The much-discussed "Cat Bass" has been a hot item in the bass world since its introduction at the 2019 NAMM Show.
This featherweight vibe machine gets a lot out of its passive electronics, especially when you go ALL IN on the pickups! This bass is unlike anything I've played before, and it's got a bucket of engaging and useful tones, and sounds "mixed" right out of the case.
Hear the origin story! Hear the bass! Hear me say the word "Acinonyx" out loud!

I dig it's tone... a lot. Thumpy and warm. The funky look is also a win with me.
I love it to. This thing goes for it!
What a great review. I was really interested in this bass, but after your review....I'm now a bit obsessed with the Cat bass. A really enjoyable review!!! Funny, and you hit on all of the tonal possibilities.
Awesome review! Thanks for demoing the bass with a pop-rock riff. That's exactly the vibe I wanted to hear! Now I need to find one!
One of the best reviews.......Well done. Going crazy waiting for mine.
thanks for another great video amos! i've been keeping up with this bass since its announcement, and have been pretty impressed by it - despite having changed my "vibe" since then and no longer being in the search for a wacky short scale - i'm glad you like it! it sounded awesome in your hands.
I do wish people would also recall that Juan Alderete was once known as John Alderete and was the bassist for Racer X (and later The Scream, with his bandmate Bruce Bouillet).
Love the looks and that sound. On my want list. Nice demo/review.
Man, I‘ve been wanting to get me one of those cool short scale basses to try. This is really tempting… awesome review!
Great review, Amos. Thank you!
Great video and review Amos. I love this bass. Lots of mojo.
Thanks, can’t wait for mine!
Yes! Great review on a killer piece
Cool bass. I may just have to order one.
Amos, AMAZING review! Thank you! Much appreciated
(BTW, try both pickups no filters and rounds = pretty well legit slap tone!)
I want to try this beast with rounds. I’ll check it out!
Amos with another awesome review. Bass looks and sounds cool, though I’m not a big fan of short scale. Would still love to play one though.
I love mine!
Love it !! 💕😈
Hey Amos, I’m not sure if you remember, but I took lessons from you back in the Midwest Music days! Very cool to see you demoing this bass, I’ve got one on the way in December, barring and shipping delays.
I remember you!! Glad you’re still playing. Great to hear from you Brian!
what a fun unique way of implementing buttons for tonal and pickup options!
is there an all in mode for the tone buttons?
Sadly there is not. I tried!
JK! I have learned that there IS. It’s the same as the last two butting together: heavy treble roll off AND the notch thing.
@@AmosHeller oooo interesting!
Mine stays in series always
So far mine too...just so much character
I've done the opposite: I have not put it into series mode until I've gotten tired of all the other settings! I'm afraid once I go to series mode, I won't ever go back.
Which flats did it come with?
I hear that all four tone buttons in does something, too. Have you tried that?
I *just* tried it unplugged and it worked! I tried before but couldn’t get them to physically stick. Now to find out what it does!
Word is: same as the last two buttons together: lots of treble roll-off AND the mid notch.
I don’t know how I only just discovered you have a youtube channel! Have you tried the sterling stingray short scale and if so which would be more useful in a band context in your opinion?
