What a really useful review. Nothing more effective than a side-by-side review of genuine peers when it comes to consumer utility.
On advice from a mate down in Oz (a two-time Tesla owner), I test-drove the Polestar 2 performance… then cancelled my high-spec Model Y order here in Hong Kong. Have remained super comfortable with that decision ever since. So this review simply further-validated my decision.
What’s key for me with your review: These are your first-ever EV drives (let alone reviews), so came in with no bias as far as EV makes or models… just a straight-forward review of genuine peers.
An ETA of Nov/Dec for my P*2 now seems like an eternity!

I got my Ev6 Wind AWD 3 weeks ago, I,ve driven so many cars, from lambs, Ferraris, teslas you name it. KIA did a phenomenal job on the platform, I want the GT but not until January. The car needs improvement on aero dynamics as it lacks behind the Tesla model slightly which would cause it to perform overall better. EV suffer from two major issues, weight and aero. Improving both will cause the car to drive further and quicker all around. The Ev6 is much sexier then the model y. Just designed light weight wheels with carbon, and waiting for full strut and spring suspension to improve my ev6.

I think the write-over abut the polestar added hp and torque is incorrect and you were driving the standard car with 408 horsepower. The power upgrade is not yet available in the United States. You had the wheels, the suspension, and the yellow seatbelts, but the power is the same. The 75 hp addition is something everyone is hoping will be available in the US soon with a paid software upgrade. The one you were driving did not have that. If all you eat is McDonald’s and you love it, that’s cool. It’s perfectly fine. Try something else at some point, too. 👍
The weight and dead steering of a modern Tesla cannot possibly be avoided. There are real impacts for it. You want to floor it and smile when you drive in a straight line …. that Tesla is perfect! If you want turns and braking and the things that come with spirited driving …. you want a light, communicative car.

@@zero11010 bro I think your missing the point. My kids sit in the back with car seats while my wife is up front. I out accelerate most cars and even recently a mustang at the light. I saved about $450 a month in gas savings relative to a vehicle similar size. That’s almost a car payment. On our last trip, on the high, most of the way, I’m using autopilot. When I have to make a car payment, it no longer crosses my mind, because I saved a lot by not having to buy gas. Now if you are someone who can afford multiple cars and gas price didn’t affect you then fine, but for everyone else, electric is the way to go. Now it is not perfect, but it is a better start m.

    • @zero11010
      @zero11010 2 роки тому

@@eyes7054 please respond with the amount you pay per mile (or full charge) and the miles you drive per year. The nearly free per mile concept is lovely. But, you have to consider the cost of the vehicle itself.
You’re not driving hard with the wife and kids in the car (assumption on my part that you’re not putting them in danger for a smile). So, it’s just a family hauler unless you’re solo. When you’re solo …. You spoke about how well it turns. If you want fun in a turn you want a light car. That’s just how physics works. I’m not wrong.
If you want to accelerate in a straight line, have fun with the EV! For sure! This is where they stand out.
Most enthusiasts prefer … turning and stuff to just going in a straight line. A heavy EV isn’t going to keep on with a track day or a morning of canyon carving. Your brakes won’t be able to handle slowing down the mass and your tires will fry, and you won’t be able to tell what the car is doing with the electric steering.
Those were my original statements. I feel like I get the point.
I’m a fan of EVs. Personally, I drive a supersport motorcycle for fun (just over 200hp per liter of engine and they weigh nothing). I get wanting a practical vehicle. I get wanting something economical. I have a luxury-sport car for that.
If you want an economical car that will move the family in comfort you can get a 20k Prius or Hyundai ioniq hybrid. I’ll let you tell me how many miles you can drive at roughly 50-55 MPG to break even with the difference in cost for those cars.
Gas is $6.5 per gallon where I live in Northern California. Assuming 12,000 miles a year and assuming you always get electricity 100% free it would take just over 26 years for the cost of the gas at this price to break even with the difference in vehicle costs.
A heavy car just isn’t as much fun for spirited driving. Have fun going in a straight line. All good. Enjoy it. You specifically mentioned high speed highway turns. You can do better than a heavy electric car for that.
Glad you enjoy your car. Hope you love it. There’s nothing wrong with the vehicle. It just isn’t a particularly sporty vehicle, and that can be totally fine! 😄

Not really a fair comparison between the 325 hp KIA EV6 and the 476 hp Polestar. I just received my Rivian R1t pickup and I'm not in love with the driving experience. Of course it is an amazing multi purpose offroader but has too much regen and too big for me. Tesla is a hard no due to styling inside and out and lack of buttons. I test drove a EV6 and at least in the city found it a joy to drive. Best feature: paddle shifter regen adjustment at your fingertips. I used to like downshifting to slow down in traffic. Also taking it off altogether transforms car in a cruising dream on flat road. The larger wheels, better breaking, higher HP and lower center of gravity of the performance edition completely changes the drivability as compared to a Tesla LR. A standard EV6 isn't even in the performance category so it was bound to be the worst performer.

Motorcycle for fun. Car for practicality. You have to pay 5+ times as much money to get a comparable car for fun driving.
The bike is for canyons and fun.
The car is for day to day. Going luxury and comfort on the car. Much more concerned with the stereo and passenger comfort. The massaging and air conditioning seats. The passenger charging port access in the front and the back. Much less concerned with how fast the car is.
Charge times for an EV would be a lot more important than how well a 5,000lb car with electric steering handles some turns.

With where tech is today you’re better off with an array of 3 radars each focused on a difference distance. It’s what everyone else uses. Its super petty, I know, but I hate the Tesla interior. I got to test drive a Polestar and I prefer it hands down. I like having the dashboard read outs in addition to the tablet.

I actually own a model y all wheel drive a EV6 wind all wheel drive and just took delivery of a polstar 2 proformance. And I just had to ask because you said the EV6 breaks were pretty crappy did you go into the settings on the EV6 and adjust the brakes there is a performance break option and it is massively different I would say it even makes the brakes better than the polstar. With this option not turned on I agree the EV6 breaks feel like they belong in a much smaller car lol I just leave the performance break option on.

      Bro that's just not true.
I also own a Polestar 2, EV6 and Model Y as well as a Model S Plaid, Model 3, BMW i8, Rivian R1S and a Cybertruck (Elon is letting me test drive for him) and the EV6 doesn't have any settings to change the breaking. The EV6 has the worst breaking in EVs right now.
I swear I'm about to launch my EV6 into orbit on the next SpaceX launch, my Dad works there and is getting me a rocket as well.

Zygrene - POLESTAR 2 is just a CHEAP made Compliance car thats made in CHYNA.
it has SHIT Engineering & Design using an OUTDATED bev Platform and a GAS car body.
Polestar 2 does not even sell in the TOP 10 .
EV6 is another COMPLIANCE built car using the GAS based GIMP Platform.
KIA/Hyundai is still one foot in the GAS car world.
KIA Hyundai does not SELL in the TOP 5.
TESLA has been 100% BEV on day one.

      they also have BAD Performance.

@@markplott4820 in real life conditions the polestar gets pretty close to the tesla in terms of range. The fact that it uses the xc40 platform doesn't make it a bad ev. The chassis is about twice as stiff as a tesla and the center of gravity is lower than a model y. Here in quebec on our bad roads teslas are known for spot weld failures over time which leads to windshield / roof and backglass cracking over time. Their efficiency also go down the shithole in cold weather whereas the polestar isnt much affected. I prefer a car with a complete interior over a plain dash with a wood stripe thay had no gauges or hud and that is made with sub par plastics. The polestar is a better built car with higher quality materials and while the brand belongs to geely, the only thing done in china is assembly. The cars are engineered and designed in sweden and geely doesn't have control over volvo / polestar which was part of the deal back in time. As we speak right now volvo and polestar are buying back their shares from geely and will only do business with geely for assembly just like they have been doing before.
