I can give you the necessary information. A scientist whose name I can't remember now proved for the first time in the world that wolf and dog can mate and that the puppies born will not be sterile. As a result, the first artificial wolf hybrids, known as wolfdogs, appeared. If I'm not mistaken, this event took place at the end of the 1800's. One of the first wolfdogs to appear was the German wolf. therefore Shiloh can only be given as a name for this dog and not as a breed of dog! A wolf hybrid in Kangal, our world famous dog. There are 2 differences between them. Kangal is a dog that emerged as a result of mating with a wolf, not artificially, but naturally. and unlike this dog, it is not related to the Alaskan Malamute, but to the Alaskan Haski. This dog has larger dimensions than the Kangal, as the malamut is larger than the Haski. Kangal's closest relative is the Alaska Haski. Just like Shiloh, Kangal takes its name from the town where it emerged. Kangal is also related to the Caucasian shepherd dog. I can safely say that this dog is a German shepherd - Caucasian shepherd hybrid. The Caucasian shepherd side is quite high, but the German shepherd side outweighs it a bit. That's another reason why it's big. this means that the Caucasian shepherd is very highly related genetically to the Alaskan Malamute. The situation is the same with humans, when two people get married, the child to be born is similar to the one with the dominant genetic aspect. wolves and dogs can easily mate during estrus, and the offspring to be born are wolf-like because the wolf's genetics are more dominant. For this reason, wolves may have a little malamut and haski genes in their genes. I can understand that this dog got its genes from a Caucasian shepherd dog, but I can't find a dog that Kangal can get the Alaska Haski gene from. only wolf remains...

We ran across one of these many years ago at a dog park. He was 115 pounds and looked just like this dog. The thing that makes me remember him, aside from the fact that he was gorgeous, was that he exuded this zone of calm around him. When he walked up to other dogs, they stopped roughhousing and chilled out. Even the more aggressive dogs took one look at this big guy, with his perfectly calm demeanor, and backed off. He was the calmest, most laid-back, most confident-but-not-aggressive dog I've ever seen. It was almost creepy to see how he just settled everything down by his mere presence and not even trying to be aggressive or assert dominance. He was an amazing dog.

No it isn’t. I got one from the creator of the breed… come to find out she literally can’t even whelp litters at their home because they’ve been caught many times in the past abusing and neglecting their dogs. My puppy ended up with severe genetic aggression. The breeder also has a practice of taking the puppies away from the dam extremely early.

@@shadominx3696 I got my dog from the original breeding home. I love my dog but he does have anxiety issues, something the breed is suppose to weed out. There is no way to 100% make sure the puppy doesn't have anxiety and I was warned that if I took him I would have to work hard to with his anxiety.

I grew up with 3 shilohs (we were able to breed two of them, and let me tell ya the puppies are life-alteringly cute) and I cannot recommend these goobers enough. They’re the sweetest, goofiest, softest, smartest, most patient giants, and they never fail to make everyone smile.

@kenziebender998 Question, do they retain any protective nature? Not like an attack-dog level German shepherd or anything, but do they have any protective instincts over the home and family or are they pretty much chill about everything?
I had one to growing up. They really are the best of the Shepherds' and Malamute lines all in one. If I had the money and space, I'd have one again today.
I just did a search for the puppies, but only found one and OMG 🥰🥰🥰 If they all pretty much look like the fluff nugget in that video then I would be completely defenseless against that level of cute.
Blitz has done fantastically well for his 1st grooming. I have to give credit to Blitz's owners for training him to be very well-behaved.

This was a nice surprise to see a Shiloh. We have two. Sadie is an 11-year old female tipping the scales at ~100 pounds. Cody is an 8-year old male clocking in at a little over 120. Both are wonderful companions and gorgeous animals. But moving through the house can be a challenge at times.
I am so jealous of you! I don't even do dogs! I'm a cat lady! But I'd abduct one of these and not care about the consequences (alright that's a slight exaggeration. They're just too lovely.)
I also have a Shiloh named Sadie. She's a Black & Tan plush coat, also running ~ 100lbm. She's aging, and a bit arthritic, but still sassy and sweet.
Also have a Buff & Cream smooth-coat named Idgie.

Yeah, I don’t care one bit about the AKC. They don’t care about the health of a dog, just what *_they_* want the dog to look like. The AKC can get bent. This dog is gorgeous, and I’m shocked I’ve never heard of this breed! I work with animals professionally, and I swear, every month I hear of a new breed 😂😂😂
Yeah they're part of the reason we ended up with so many dogs that barely have a nose and the poor things can't breathe
You got it, lol! I was so sad when they got the Coton de Tulear even after those folks lobbied to stay out of the AKC.
The Shiloh breed standard, among other things, requires a level top line on our dogs, so no more slopey hips like in GSDs. I think the AKC has finally turned against slopey hips, but the damage has been done. Shilohs are still a large breed dog with a limited gene pool, so we still encounter health issues in our dogs BUT we are sure working on it and highly value responsible breeding programs.
My wife was very active in the Shiloh community about a decade ago and we still have one Shiloh here with us. Tina Barber, known as Ma Shiloh, was the breed founder and was in upstate NY, not NYC. There has been a ton of turmoil in the breeding community for these dogs and lots of sliver organizations. The ISSR is the original breeding registry for the dogs. Other similar named registries exist, but those will have branched off from the original bloodlines. King shepherds are also a branch of the original shiloh and exhibit many of the same traits.

Today, I meant the sweetest malamute/German Shepherd/ husky mix. He immediately went to give me cuddles after I called him gorgeous, and as I stroked him, a few clumps of fur came out as he truly was a German shedder. His excellent owner was so kind, and I give props to the elderly man for training and socialising his dog so well. He reminded me of why I love big dogs so much. This dog reminds me of the one I met today. So sweet, composed and co-operative.
The other day my mom and I were at Walmart and this lovely veteran had his PTSD 🐕🦺 with him...next thing any of us knew my mom had a happy wiggly lapful in her motorized cart😹 Apparently Balto the German Shepherd wolfdog had never done that before because although he liked strangers, never to that extent haha

Shiloh Shepherds are amazing dogs. I once went to a breeder's Spring event where she invited anyone who purchased a Shiloh from her. There must have been 25 or 30 giant dogs wandering around the farm and there was no fighting or any aggressive behavior. Regarding the ethical breeding practices, the ISSDC has two managed databases that are used to ensure genetically sound pairings are done. It's pretty impressive how hard members of this organization work to keep the breed healthy. I don't know about Canada, but the waiting list for one anywhere on the East coast of 'MuriKuh is always long. What a gorgeous example of a Shiloh you have there. 👽👍

I'm really sorry for your loss. I know Sage is looking out for you from heaven and still protecting you. Sage would want you to move on and get another dog when your ready, but don't take to long bc Sage wants you to be happy too. Mourning to long means your still living in the past and that's not what Sage wants you to do.

We had a similar dog in 1971. His name was Teddy and he was so laid back. He was very protective. He had myself(a toddler at the time) and two other kids under 4. He was amazing with us. You couldn't get near our house without him sounding the alarm. However, during storms, he would crawl under my parents bed. My mom would brush him seasonly and fill up a contractor's garbage bag. I miss him!

Such a wonderful, sweet, calm boy! Didn't mind the bath, the hoodie, the blow dryer, his nails trimmed or paw pads shaved. Just a completely wonderful dog. A great ambassador for his breed.
Blitz has/is a very well-trained dog. Shilohs are great but it isn't a fair representation they are all mellow. A dog like this is a dog whose owner has spent extraordinary time with the dog and proper exposures without flooding growing up. Do your homework, do extensive health background histories on the breed. There are Shilohs whose temperament is hard and a high drive. Then there are ones that you think you life is over when you lose one. I've been in them since 96' (breeder, owner, handler) short time and have a service Shiloh now (balance dog due to size). I can't imagine life without one.

Don't be fooled. Dog body language says he was plenty nervous about it---that heavy panting is a sign of discomfort in dogs. He just didn't try to fight her, but he wasn't calm on the inside.

Though she will be rolling over in her grave for this youtuber calling them Malamute shepherd crosses… Tina never used any pure Malamutes in the breeds foundation (only a single Mixed breed male in 1991 who was a triple cross of White GSD, American Showline, and Malamute. This one stud was a close relative of the famous dog London who acted on the TV show the littlest hobo)
Blitz is absolutely a beautiful breed and should be recognized by the AKC. I love the way you groomed him and how he just stayed so calm for you during the process. I wish you were in our area as our son has a Siberian Huskey/Malamute mix that is just a tad bit shorter in height than Blitz. He is another dog who is always calm and gets along well with other dogs and also with people of all ages. We currently have him groomed at least once per month as we are in a high-humidity area and it is hard to keep him cool. As you can imagine his favorite time of year is winter and playing in the snow, and also days we let him play in the sprinklers or his baby pool. He loves his grooming time and we only need to call out "Spa Day" and he gets so excited. Thank you so much for sharing your video, especially the "Fur-nado" bit which is so reminiscent of what happens when we take the blower to our dog between grooming days...lol. You seem like a really patient groomer, especially for your love of these beautiful majestic animals. May God always Bless you

OMG!! I've never seen another Shiloh Shepard look exactly like my boy, Eli - even down to the tongue freckles. We rescued him when he was roughly 3 months old not knowing what he was. When we found out he was a Shiloh Shepard, I had to research his breed. Constantly get stopped by people, even by passing cars (which is dangerous), asking what breed he is and/or complimenting him. They are truly gorgeous dogs!
All that hair made me laugh, I brush my boy almost daily (quick upkeep during summer time) and have to vacuum twice a day to keep up with the shedding. Worth it though.
I thought the exact same thing about our Shiloh Jasper. Right down to the tongue freckle, he looks exactly the same.
Correction: Shiloh Shepherds ARE an official purebreed dog. They are registered thru their own organization and are recognized as a RARE breed and part of the American Rare Breed Association (ARBA) instead of the AKC. That is by choice. They are, I believe, the first official American rare breed dog. Other rare breeds came from other countries. So, again, they ARE purebred dogs. Also, Malamute was only temporarily introduced into the breed to strengthen it but the reason for the new breed was created using imported pure and old-fashioned GSDs to restore the healthy structure German Shepherds used to have that was bred out of them.
No, you are incorrect. Shiloh Shepherds are NOT an "official" purebred dog. If they are not recognized by any major kennel club (which they are not), then they are not "official". It doesn't matter that their OWN organization "recognizes" them as a purebreed. If that was the case, then my dog, who is a GSD x Kuchi Dog, must be a purebred dog too, because the Lakota Organization For German Shep-Kuchi Dogs "recognizes" them as purebreds. Except, me saying that is ludicrous, correct? Then it's ludicrous to say that, just because the "Shiloh Shepherd Organization" recognizes Shiloh Shepherds as a "purebreed" means they're an "official" purebreed. Of COURSE the Shiloh Shepherd Organization would want them recognized as a purebred. But unless a major kennel club (e.g., the AKC or the FCI) recognizes a dog breed as a purebreed, then it is not a purebreed, it is a mutt. Shiloh Shepherds, while gorgeous, are mutts, not purebreds. It's the same for Goldendoodles/any other "doodle" - the AKC does not recognize them as a purebreed, so no matter what fancy names we give them, they are mixed breed dogs - mutts, to wit. Shiloh Shepherds, King Shepherds, Chiweenies, Puggles, Goldendoodles, Morkies, Cockapoos, etc. are all mutts. They are NOT purebreds. The ARBA is not an officially recognized kennel club.

'Purebred' essentially means inbred
@LakotaSilverWolf ARBA is an official kennel club. It is as official as the AKC. AKC is lax so some breeds choose to avoid them.

I had one of these angels for 10 years. He was truly the goodest boy. I said goodbye to him a couple years ago. I still miss him everyday.

Looks so similar to one of our rescue dogs growing up. We didn’t know her breeds but was one of the most beautiful dogs I’ve ever seen. We would always get stopped and she would get all the attention. Shepherd and husky mix was our main guess at her breeds. RIP Akela

I've never been particularly into the German Shepherd family for myself, (I work with many and they're great dogs,) Blitz's vibes are immaculate, and I don't think I've ever wanted a random shepherd type dog I've seen online more than I do right now. 😂
