Uhhh…. Come on Mads you know you’re going to change out the mismatched hatch flooring. You’re attention to detail is exceptional and every time you look at it will drive you crazy. 🤪
August you and all of us are already annoyed by it kkkkk
Yup, I know it, you know it, and I’m sure Mads and Ava know it. It will not pass muster I’m afraid.
Even looks like there was a small spot missing under the nav station. Unless that was by design
Hi a small tip, An option to open the floor hatches could be a magnet. Simply glue a magnet underneath the hatch and you can open it with a other magnet off the opposite polarity.
I just deleted my comment where I made the exact same comment. I hadn't scrolled down into the messages. With a strong rare-earth magnet glued on the underside, any ferromagnetic tool becomes the latch opener.
Haha just read this made the same comment…. Great minds
I almost wrote the same .. +1 to this .. but I would just do a steal plug in the hole in the wood (..washers + epoxy) .. and use a magnet to pull up..
There are probably 30+ comments below saying the same thing….I guess people think only one or two of the exact same suggestion is not enough 🤣
Improvement: Stick metal under the hatch so it doesn't magnet around with any stuff you want to put inside the locker, or anything rolling around the floor, and then use the magnet to lift that metal part (together with the hatch) up
I've been binge-watching this channel for about a month now, because I find it incredibly relaxing to watch people work on their boats. I've had so much fun watching Athena change before my eyes.
I just wanted to say that I came for the boatwork, but I'm staying for Ava's sense of humor. You're funny, Mads, but Ava is next-level! You guys are lovely!
Use leather for the spacers under the hatches, it eliminates creaking.
or cork
very important!
Top tip, when you're moving around the boat, take small steps so it takes longer to get there - that way the boat will seem much bigger. Happy Christmas!
🤣
😂😂👍
Beautiful job on the floors and Christmas decorations. I smiled at the solution to making the tree fit. The tradition in our house involves an electric drill and spare branches. Thanks for the video.
Now THAT is warm & homey looking! Nice job on the sole flooring & the settee table! You are already spreading the Christmas spirit that we need so much!
Love the "snow" sax music and the slow motion. I was wearing headphones and scared my family when I burst out laughing. Had to watch it again and heard the router motor too. Too much.
The make it snow slo-mo was the funniest clip since Vancouver Cove with Alfy (Life is Like Sailing).
Just when I thought your videos have been awesome, this comes along and it's even better. The "snow" and accompanying music just made my wife and I have a great laugh!!
It is looking awesome. Perhaps consider using the scrap from the table to be a hinged piece. Then when 4 sit to eat there would be room there. It could fold under the table. Or you could use it for a sink insert, more counter space/ cutting board.
Thanks for sharing your work.
Mads needs a stocking hat to match Ava. Loving the look of the boat as you decorate.
ava is such an asset, although how can anyone not like licorice. really love this edit, the xmas snow with the bassie track was brilliant.
Mads remakes a boat, Ava makes it a home. Merry Christmas 🎄
I didn't read all of the comments below, but you have the perfect Charlie Brown Christmas tree. Ava, your decorations really show your enthusiasm for the holidays. Mads, the soles came out perfect and the settee with the table finally in is huge. It looks big enough to have the whole marina in for dinner. Take care both of you, stay well and have a wonderful time this holiday season. Hope to see you next week.
Mars, luv it, to quote a famous sailor; “pretty dang spiffy…”. Well done.
The floor looks amazing! I'll bet having the new floor and having the boat decorated makes it seems cozie. I can't wait to see what's next.
Haha, the snow in slow motion was excellent!
"See you" in unison!! You heard my Christmas wish. 😅♥️♥️♥️
That Leg Lamp looks like it must have been a Major award.
The floor continues to amaze! Looks fabulous. LOVE the tree and tiny stars, too!💕💕💕
The quality of your workmanship is outstanding!
I love the camera on the gimbal in the opening...it was just like being on a boat :-)
Neodymium magnets sunk into the hatches from below to a few millimeter below the surface. You can then open the hatch with any ferrous object in your vicinity.
Great idea, always good practice to make sure things have more than one use - now you can use the anchor for this as well.
Careful near the autopilot or some other instruments.
They rust, you need only one tool to open floor hatches in an emergency, your hands.
Charlie Brown would be proud of that tree!!
The space is looking great! Ava has done a fantastic job with the Christmas decorations!
I love that you got 100.000 subscribers exactly. And that hat was worth it
I think it would be useful to add fiddles to the table and fridge tops leaving a small gap in a corner to facilitate sweeping off crumbs etc. As always you've done a fantastic job. You guys make a great team. Merry Christmas. Sea ewe. : )
A splendid suggestion, Peter ..... would be so practical in heavy weather and appreciated, surely?
Haha, you guys are super cute ...corn-balls, but cute. Athena is looking amazing - better than new. Fair winds! 👍
Finally, another double "See Youuu" !
You make a very compatible couple of "sailors"... Happy Holidays from my lockdown...
I've been waiting FOREVAR for this! Its like they are now an official couple.
glue neodymium magnets on the bottom and then you can open the hatch with any metal object
This.
Another epically spiffy video! Thank you two for the interest you are making in restoration of these older vessels! I have another sugestion on hair, brush you long hair well and tie back outside on the deck, trust me the second worse item in a bilge is hair the first is paper! We learnt that paper from cans would become wet from humidity and we would remove them and mark them to avoid that paper falling apart and ending up in the pump! Yet when I had long hair it was everywhere in the vessel.
Been watching for about 5 years and never missed an episode. The flooring is looking great and really sets it off. I don't know how you do it as my knees would be knackered by now. :-) Merry Christmas from Liverpool!
Athena looks like a million bucks!
Christmas million bucks!
Nice to see both saying cya! How long did it took to rehearse and get it right?
Floor looks terrific. Ummmm tree looks Christmasy, a lot of fun.
Finally, you should consider changing the standard greeting to "Welcome aboard the good old NEW Athena".
Just beautiful! All of it…the floor and the decorations!
Ava should do a tutorial on how to make that Christmas hat, it looked really cool
Gently falling Mads-snow with softly playing 'Silent Night' had me laughing out loud.
Maybe too late now but would it look better if you crossed the flooring in the stepped down area by rotating it 90 degrees?
Also might help better define that there is a step there so visitors don't fall on their nose.
Maybe put a fold down leaf on the TV end of the table so you can get full extension on it when you want it.
The Cabin sole looks awesome. Very ship shape.
You two are so cute together. Looks like you had fun making this video! Decorating your boat turned out nicely
It’s awesome to see both of you in the the first Christmas together. Merry Christmas
An amazing solution to floor hatch pulls.....Drill a 1/4" hole in the centre of the hatch. Use appropriatly sized aluminum or stainless stove bolts with the head up as long as 3x the thickness of floor. Put a lock nut below but only wind it on till it is attached to bolt. When you let go of the stove bolt it falls down only showing the smooth head. When you pull up on it the bolt comes up providing you a handy, dandy handle. Thank Bristol Yachts USA for that old trick. Looks amazing on our 41.1.
Ava is a great addition to your already entertaining show. A real firecracker. More of this please.
Or buy the actually custom made stainless steel devices from your yacht chandlers for $5.95 each. They work in the dark and under water with just your finger. Trust me I know, I tried it. Try convincing your insurance surveyor about any others.
Getting close and Athena is looking really, really good. It’s been a long time since I was watching you do the floor on Obelix!.
I love all of your efforts as always would you you consider sharing your star Christmas ornament folding technique, perhaps some of your Christmas tradition's? The beautiful tapestry of our world is woven by many people's traditions.
I'm totally amazed how beautiful all the repairs that you've accomplished. It's really great you have a talented fiance who's willing to work on projects she's never done before and is doing a great job with the projects she's taken on. You guys are going to have many great adventures and life togeather. I wish you all the best as you start your life togeather. Merry Christmas and a great new year.
Starting to look like a comfortable home. Congrats on figuring out the sprayhood, sails, and watermaker sourcing.
PS (to Ava): You’ll shoot your eye out kid !!!!!
Nice plug for Bronners.
I grew up in Michigan; a pilgrimage to Frankenmuth for some overpriced Christmas decorations was an annual event.
Looks better than it ever has with all the Christmas decorations. Merry Christmas guys 🇺🇸👍
Hatches look really good, I'd go with sunken hardware, or simple finger holes.
Gotta love Bronner's Ava! Close enough to me to take a day drive out and back. Frankenmuth is a fun town to go visit, and of course I'm sure you just love the outlet shopping there right off I-75.
Hope you guys make it to the Great Lakes one day soon!!
Love your Christmas Tree. Matches the Norwegian one in London...
I loved that episode - it really put a smile on my face
Interior is really looking great! Happy Holidays from the crew aboard SV Nepenthe, currently in Cariacou, Grenada
Ava ,you have one hard working fiance. I wish you both the best sailing and lots of adventures. Merry Christmas to both of you and a better new year then what we've had the last two years.
Eva is so fun and funny. Living in Michigan not far from Brenners, it's nice to see you represent. Cheers from Flushing Michigan.
You should inbed magnets into the back side of those floor hatches and use another magnet to open them if the suction cup doesn't work so that you can maintain that spiffy clean look.
I must say I did laugh at "fluffing the Christmas tree" 😂
I came here looking for the "fluffing" comment.
Haha yep… some serious double entendre’s going on there
BEST VID EVER!!! Love the Christmas theme. Had a tree just like that on our boat. Had blinking lights in the ports and heard about a number of dock people running over to make sure we were not on fire. ;-)
5 Years already? No way! I can swear it's like 2 at best O-o
Dear Mads and Ava! Although I totally understand, I hate the fact that I am not able to set my watch to your sunday upload anymore. I've been following this progress for about 6 years now and I must say that I am pretty proud to be one of your long time supporters! I am myself traveling to the US shortly and wish you the very best on your passing. With regards, your fellow scandinavian traveler!
What no mistletoe 😁
Floors look great 👍
Bowling shoes?
I loved the Rolie part!
15:52 Ava! You almost made me do a spit-take. "obscene santa here" lol Looking good guys, and if you get tired of Christmas, you can celebrate Festivus - You already have the pole by the Nav station,
Great episode! Tastefully done decorations too! Flooring looks super spiffy! Maybe you can use that leftover wood from the settee table for an extension if you have more guests for a meal. I've seen some neat fold down ones that mount to the bulkhead. Piano hinge and a drop down leg mounted under the TV? So a fold up in that case.... C You next week.
You two seem to really enjoy each other 😀😷
You might consider a small magnet in each corner of the hatch lids to hold them secure. And one big stronger magnet in the middle of each you could use a second big magnet to pick up the lid with.
Loved the snow/music....bravo!
I don’t know it you know but you have been influencing others in the UA-cam biz great work man love your vids see you next week can’t wait for what’s next
Your Christmas decorations lokes great 👍don't loose your dialect as we say in Norway🇳🇴👍🙂
I would mount some magnets under the hatches. That way any ferromagnetic metal could be used for the opener. Happy Christmas!
Have a look at camper van accessories Mads , lots of these have floor hatches with recessed stainless ‘push for handle’ fittings..
Nice to see and for you both these ‘big ‘ jobs getting done, when you look at it and can’t believe it’s the same house or boat is a great feeling well done 👍
Mads' 2/3 of the video is interesting and informative. I was feeling a little bummed that Ava wasn't joining the video, but surprise! The new floor, table and decorations really make the boat feel like a home!
Hi Guys, great video as always.
I would strongly recommend that you put hinges on the floor boards cut out as if you ever tune over or even go to 180* all the things in the locker will come out.
Those floors are looking really nice
Merry Christmas to both of you and the rest of the followers
The snowing part was simply brilliant fun. You guys are the best.
Looks awesome and nice with some danish Christmas things/ornaments as well...
It was practical.
Now is looking beautiful.
Next it will be comfortable.
The "snow" and tune were very well done and cracked me up.
I had the same worktop from bnq. After 3 weeks it warped. It's designed to have full support.
The flooring looks great!
Haha, that ”snowing” was funny! 😆
Suction cups are the way to go. Most Oyster yachts now use them to save unsightly hardware.
I love the mini tree. I showed my better half and tried to convince her that would work well in our home... But Alas No dice I'll have to keep lugging the extra large one from the basement every year. LOL Great video. New Floor looks great. The new table is going to be really nice for you two. Thanks for sharing.
A magnet for the hatches would be cool just to pop them out. Love the channel all the best from Halifax Nova Scotia Canada hopefully you stop buy Halifax. My father in law loves the channel he is also from Denmark.
Have you ever been on a boat? Thought so.
Stay healthy and we'll see you next week.
Aaaah spiffy Christmas Sunday loved it!
Great episode!! I loved it! And the footage at the beginning with the steady shot on was really neat to see! It added a bit of "on the boat" realism. I wouldn't mind seeing more of that.
You guys are doing an awesome job making that boat healthy! Merry Christmas to you Ava and Mads. Where are the pups?
Mads…Ava is doing a great job making your boat a home……everything looks very festive…..good job both of you…Merry Christmas…
I love the holiday music to the falling, gently falling, sawdust.
Ok, I absolutely LOVE Mads stocking! And Athena is looking fabulous! Keep up the great work!
Simple 1" finger holes have served well on the floor hatches on boats I have owned...
You guys need to add a folding seat on the wall below the big-screen tv. It will fill the void when in lounge mode and allow another guest to sit at the table when in dining mode.
The flooring add transformed the cabin!! The decorations are outstanding, at 1st the unveiling of the TREE rung out Charlie Brown until the donut!!
The boat interior looks great! Congratulations to the two of you for all of the hard work with the flooring and Christmas decorations.
Flush pull rings might be what youre looking for. They are commonly used on boats here in the United States.
I think my covid went away for 19min-thank you guys!♥️
the flooring looks great had an idea for hardware for the floor hatches (If you're still debating over options) ....the lift-up rings that lay flat when not in use. they would look pretty good, make it easy to open the hatch and save needing a separate suction cup of some sort...
Athena is now amazing both inside and out! What and incredible job.
